*The New ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook
Netbook or Mini-Laptop
Overall Assessment/Reviews ...Very Good to Raving
The new 'Asus Eee PC 1000HE' is here!
Asustek was the first laptop maker to launch the netbook category in the fall of 2007. They created this segment of the notebook market and other companies having been playing "catch-up" ever since.
When its coming release of the new Asus Eee PC 1000HE, Asustek is further staking its claim as the industry's leader when it comes to netbooks.
The Asus Eee PC 1000HE with its Intel Atom 1.66GHz N280 processor will not disappoint. Because its up from the N270, the bus runs at 667 MHz, whic is up from the previous generation's 533 MHz. Sporting a 10 inch display and a good keyboard that's 92% of the size of a standard keyboard - this keyboard design, many reviewers point out is a vast improvement over earlier models of the Eee PC 1000.
Another main feature is the long battery life... Asus is claiming its six-cell 6600 mAh battery will run 9.5 hours but in order to get that amount you'll probably have to run many applications at a lower power. In any case even 7 or 8 hours on any netbook is very good. It should get you through most school or business days with plenty of power to spare.
Other features include a very handy 1.3 Megapixel Webcamera on the top of the screen. This webcam works synchronously w/802.11N wireless which makes web communications a breeze. It also has Bluetooth so can hook up with your wireless mouse or headsets. Huge 160GB hard drive is another major plus if you want to store a lot of data. Asus also provides of an additional 10GB Eee Online storage, convenient for backing up your system.
Preinstalled is Microsoft's Windows XP Home, Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft Works, StarOffice, and Skype. The Eee PC 1000HE holds three USB ports, VGA-out, SD Card slot, headphone/microphone jacks, plus an ethernet jack. It has a 10 LCD WSVGA (1024 x 600) LED Backlight Screen and Intel UMA Graphics Card. As for size, it's approximately - 10.47 (W) x 7.53 (D) x 1.12 ~ 1.50 (H). And with a weight of 3.2 pounds
Early verdicts have this Asus netbook at the top of the pile, especially with it comes to battery life and keyboard design. Performance-wise the N280 processor and Asus Super Hybrid Engine battery technology should supply enough computing power to hold its own in the very crowded netbook marketplace, with the only exception maybe being the Lenovo Ideapad S10. Even then, the Asus Eee PC 1000HE will be hard to beat.
Battery Life: 9.5 hours is what Asus is claiming - in actual use this will probably be lower. However, even at 7 or 8 hours, this is excellent for a netbook.
Pros: Great keyboard, very fast and great battery life.
Conclusion: The Asus Eee PC 1000HE should be at the top of anyone's list if they're considering a netbook. Asus is still the Industry standard, even if other netbook makers like Lenovo, MSI, Acer... are catching up quickly. Go with Asus Eee PC 1000 HE as your first pick, and then see if you can find any netbook on the market that can beat or better its features. Good luck!
