FireWire - Connects your notebook or computer to your multimedia
peripherals such as digital video cameras, printers, etc. - it is
one of the fastest peripheral standards you can have on your computer.
Firewire ports are integrated into many notebooks and laptops - latest
models have FireWire that can operate at up to 800 megabits per
second. These ports are replaceing the older parallel ports.
FireWire is a high speed serial data bus that's cross-platform and
has the following standards IEEE 1394-1995, IEEE 1394a-2000, and
IEEE 1394b. Notebooks that support the 1394b standard can operate
at up to 800 megabits per second.
Basically a FireWire makes it possible to speed up the transfer
of very large files in many present day digital products like digital
camcorders, video tapes, and music systems.
It's so good, it has even won an Emmy! In 2001, Apple's FireWire Technology
was awarded an Emmy for it's impact on the television industry.
If you're going to be handling large video data files with your
notebook - check to see if it has a FireWire.
