First, DVD is short for Digital Versatile/Video Disc. DVDR means DVD recordable and DVDRW means DVD ReWriteable.
To complicate matters, there are two competing DVD standards DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W. Your Best solution is to buy a dual DVD+/-RW, most high-end notebooks come with this option.
Similarly, most high-end notebooks come with a CD+-RW Drive.
Some common DVD+/-RW Drives would be those from Asus, Lite-On and Plextor. Each will have slightly different read and write speeds... such as 8x, 16x or more.
