Overall Assessment/Reviews ...Good to Very Good The Acer Aspire One does have some strong features such as a large 160 GB Hard Drive, good keyboard and relatively cheap price make it a reasonable choice for a netbook. The Acer Aspire One is often ranked high on many Top 10 list of the best netbooks. The Aspire One is made in China by Quanta Computer and this netbook is also basec upon the Intel Atom platform, which includes the Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 processor, along with the Intel 945GSE Express chipset & Intel 82801GBM (ICH7M) I/O controller. The Aspire One comes with 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, 1.3 Megapixel camera, SDHC & multi-format media readers, 802.11b/g, Ethernet, three USB 2.0, VGA, and 3.5mm audio out and weights in at a feather-weight 2.2 pounds. Of all the netbooks discussed in this Guide, the Aspire One does present some really mixed reviews. For example, out of 533 user reviews reported in Amazon, 334 or 62% give it 5 out of 5 stars, 117 or 21% give it 4 stars, 30 or 5% give it 3 stars, 16 or 3% give it 2 stars and 36 users or 6% give it one star. Which takes us to the issue that some users are finding or have found problems with Internet or WiFi connections, especially on earlier models of the Aspire One. While this seems to have been dealt with or can be solved - it's something the prospective buyer should be made aware of. .................... Please Note .................... On older models of the Aspire One there have been many accounts of lost Internet/WiFi connections associated with the Aspire One - you should check this issue out thoroughly to see if it will be a problem for you. There is a very helpful thread/discussion of this issue here: Not available. The Aspire One has three USB ports but no bluetooth, and if you want a mobile netbook - go with the 6-cell battery since the 3-cell battery will only give you 2 hours and 14 minutes. You can get around 5.5 hours of normal use out the 6-cell battery. The 8.9" 1024x600 LED TFT display is a good size and the viewing quality of the display is also very good - you can also adjust the brightness from dim to bright. Throw in a very stylist appearance and the Aspire One is a handy netbook you should consider if you want an inexpensive netbook that will do it's job. Battery Life: 6-cell battery around 5.5 hours, 3-cell battery around 2 hours. Pros: Inexpensive Price, large storage, bright display and styliest design. Cons: No bluetooth, poor battery life with the 3-cell battery, connection issues on earlier models.
