Are Websites Obsolete Already?
Will they go the way of the DoDo?
Is html dead? Has the old static html website seen it's best days?
Everything evolves, especially technologies - when was the
last time you listened to an 8 track? Watched a movie on
videotape? Or took a picture with a 35 mm camera?
Everything evolves, so will websites.
As the web goes wireless, as downloads become instant, as disk
space becomes limitless and bandwidth is rendered irrelevant;
won't the delivery of content and websites also change? The old
static website with the one url address may just be history.
Your website won't just be at the one url location but at millions
of locations - on all your website's users' hard drives!
Guess eventually, the whole web will be on your hard drive -
with instant simultaneous access to all content as it's made
available!
Sound too farfetched? Not really - it has already started!
The forerunners of such a system are becoming very popular.
Of course, we are talking about Blogs and RSS. Thru rss and 'xml'
coding the way content is delivered on the web has changed.
The key probably lies in some sort of 'hybrid' of blogging
and rss - which will deliver whole 'websites' to your desktop
- instead of just news articles or news feeds. The main reason
for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) in the first place.
Instead of a bookmark, you will not only have a live bookmark
-now present in such things as the 'Firefox browser' (est.10 million
users) or the 'MyYahoo Sites' (est.30 million users) - but an
instant bookmark.
Where the total contents of your favorite websites you have
bookmarked are on your hard drive - ready for immediate instant
access. As mentioned before, more than likely - the whole web
will be on your hard drive. (Or as good as!)
Each website will probably be it's own channel. There will be
billions of these channels. They will be as instant as a tv
broadcast but have the usability or function of a website.
Actually, we see the start of such a direction in the blurring
of sites that are not exactly a blog or a website -- but a cross
between the two. People are building complete websites in rss/xml
coding so they can feed them directly to their site's customers
or patrons.
This type of system is being marketed to the hobbyists, personal
style sites, etc. but it can be easily adapted to business, marketing,
branding - the applications are endless.
Don't just create a blog! Better yet, why not make your website a blog.
Total contents delivered directly to your subscribers or patrons.
Don't come to us -- we will come to you!
Such a system would have many advantages over a static website.
Delivery time will be nil. Plus, easy access to valuable content that
truly interests the end user, will give you a more targeted audience.
A super site -- every page, every image, every word, -- all written
in RSS/BLOG format -- immediately appearing on your desktop.
Let's face it -- content and information -- is what drives the web.
We won't stop until we have instant, immediate access to all that
content. The old static html website just won't cut it anymore. Get
ready for something new. It's coming to a desktop near you very soon!
Lets all hope this future system comes with a remote!
