3 Powerful SEO Strategies Which Are Still Dominating The Search Engines
A full time search engine marketer discusses some of the major
SEO techniques ruthless webmasters are using to dominate the
search engines.
Author's Note: This article is for information purposes only
and presents SEO tactics which your competitors MAY be using to
outrank you in the search engines. If you're considering entering
a niche market and find several of your top-ranked competitors
using these techniques, chances are great that you will have very
stiff keyword battles which may be too costly for you to win. I
also don't suggest or even condone that you use some of these SEO
techniques, as some of them are frowned upon by the search engines.
In the long run, it is the best SEO policy to follow strictly ethnical
practices and build a solid SEO friendly site. Be especially careful
to follow Google's Webmaster's Guidelines and in the following
article I have also noted those particular SEO techniques/methods
which may get you into trouble with Google.)

If you're a full-time online webmaster and marketer, you probably
keep a close eye on all the SEO strategies your competitors are using,
especially those competitors who are ranking for the top spots in
the search engines. And if you have survived in this game for over
10 years, you have no doubt become very proactive when it comes to
your competition - you make observations, you take notes, you notice
trends and you do tons and tons of keyword research, especially in
your own niche markets.
If you're new to SEO or online marketing, what you discover will
probably not only surprise you, but many of the techniques will
leave you with a sour taste in your mouth. Assuming of course,
you're an honest webmaster who does everything by the book, strictly
"Whitehat" all the way. Unfortunately, you will soon discover your
competitors may not exactly be virtual versions of Snow White and
you will find many have gone over to the dark side. Well, in most
cases, over to very effective SEO techniques which fall into that
"grey" area of the online marketing world.
Even with a more empowered Panda-Infused Google rearranging
what "quality" content gets listed in their all important rankings,
these SEO techniques are still very effective, if not more so.
Nor are these SEO techniques exactly new, they have been around
since the web was invented and will probably be the most dominating
factors for years to come, even if many webmasters don't like
these aggressive tactics. And be warned, Google is constantly
changing/tweaking its algorithm to stop manipulation of its search
results and will even ban sites which blatantly break their terms
of service.
Our discussion here concerns three SEO techniques which will deliver
the rankings and the traffic, especially from Google. As mentioned
above, many feel these tactics fall into that "grey" area of SEO,
a rather sneaky and ruthless way to dominate your competition. Used
in combination, these three tactics can create the Perfect SEO Storm
for getting those top rankings for some of the most lucrative keywords
on the web.
What are these SEO techniques and how do they work?
1. Site Clustering - This SEO technique is as old as the web. Instead
of building one good quality site in your niche or keyword market,
you build four or more sites and link them all together. We are not
exactly talking about building 100's or 1000's of spammy sites, that's
too obvious and usually won't work for long, but more about that later.
You have to be more resourceful and a little more creative. Truth be
told, it is much easier to rank for two sites than it is to rank for
one site in the search engines, especially in Google. Create two or
more sites with good quality related content and link them all together,
and you can even rank in Google for all of them on the first page.
Instead of having just one site on that first page, why not have four
or five sites all ranking for your targeted keywords.
Individuals or companies with deep pockets and resources can dominate
their niche market by going this route. They build a cluster of sites
and pool the PageRank so that all sites are highly ranked in Google.
Sometimes these individuals cover their tracks and use a proxy to register
their domains, but in most cases a simple search of their Adsense ID or
Google Analytics will turn up how all these sites are connected. Now in
the majority of cases, the webmaster or company is doing nothing wrong
by creating three or four closely related sites - all the content is original
and these are well-built easy-to-navigate sites which the search
engines love.
However, in business any company which creates a monopoly is usually
frowned upon, the same goes for any individual or company which bullies
their way into the top 10 spots in the search engines. Once they dominate
their niche, they can funnel profits back into buying traffic and building
more sites. It will be hard for any other company or individual to get a
foothold, never mind a first page listing. Besides, the object of the game
is to eliminate your competition so that you have all those top spots for
yourself. Greed is not an SEO technique, but it might as well be for those
ruthless webmasters/marketers, who cluster numerous sites, pool valuable
targeted keyword ranking juice and monopolize the search engines.
2. Exact Keyword Domains - Even Post Panda, buying and promoting
an exact keyword domain, will usually get you onto the first page of the
search engines, including Google. Again this is nothing new, webmasters
and marketers have been doing this since the web began. Marketers find
out what popular keyword phrases searchers are typing into the search
engines to find what they're looking for on the web, and then create a
domain/site with those exact same keywords.
Again nothing wrong with this practice, unless a webmaster or marketer
are using Trademarked products or titles in the domain name, which is
a legal no-no but this hasn't stopped many ruthless marketers from taking
advantage of this tactic. Many of these same marketers buy 100's, even
1000's of exact keyword domains to dominate most of the traffic in their
niche market. Of course, you can also link these sites to your 10 main
super-sites or you can pool their PR to boost your secondary blogs and
social bookmarking profiles in such places as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin...
the object of the game is to control most of the keywords in your niche -
this is more valuable than gold since it produces traffic, leads and sales.
From a strictly business angle, buying and running thousands of domains/sites
can be a relatively inexpensive way to generate leads and sales. Even long
tail keywords with only a few searches each month can be worthwhile when
you consider the big picture of dominating the overall keywords for your
niche or industry. Your ultimate goad is to dominate the first page results
and owning all the right keyworded domains will get you there.
3. Link Buying/Building - Buying links is an extremely tricky issue
when it comes to marketing on the web. Google has come out firmly against
it and has put penalties in place for sites who they can prove buy and/or
sell links. On paper and in a "just world" this would be fine and dandy
- a move which should be highly commended. However, any webmaster or
marketer who is being brutally honest, knows many of the extremely lucrative
niche markets are being held by companies who have bought their way into
the top rankings. Of course, as Google found out, proving someone is buying
links is very hard to do and you will need more than the judgement of Solomon
to get it right.
What really complicates the matter, we are not just talking about the
obvious purchasing of text links from other webmasters and sites. There
is a whole other area dealing with link buying in well known online directories,
which can be quite costly but these paid listings are worth it, if they are
judged by human editors. One could argue this is really not the same thing
because obviously everyone knows you're paying for these links, even the
search engines. The same goes for paid advertising on closely related sites.
However, any company or individual with deep pockets can buy extremely large
amounts of keyword juice to help boost their rankings.
Another area concerns Press Releases and whether or not this is just another
form of link buying? A well crafted and SEO enriched press release can help
build your link authority, especially when you consider these releases are
usually picked up by keyword related sites. Some companies go so far as
putting out a press release each day - steadily building up their links over
time. Many experts believe, Google has recently devalued links coming
from major Press Release companies and sites - just as they have done for
paid and article directories.
Then you have the whole issue of hiring the services of SEO companies which
will build your links for you in an organic way. However, there is nothing organic
about these services and it is just another way to manipulate rankings by purchasing
links, no matter what kind of two-way or three-way link swapping is involved. To
state it quite bluntly and cynically, steadily build enough "DoFollow" links related
to your niche over time, and you will dominate the search engines, regardless of
how those links are built or bought. This is the cold reality most honest webmasters
are up against and must face on their own terms when building their online business.
There you have it, three SEO techniques which anyone can use to firmly place
their site or sites on the first page results in the search engines, including
Google. Again, if you see your top ranked competitors using any or all of these
techniques to dominate your chosen niche or subject area, be on your guard
because their ultimate goal is probably to pool or control a vast majority of
the linking juice associated with the major keywords in that market. And if
they're entirely ruthless or greedy, they will leave no prisoners!
