Overall Assessment/Reviews ... Very Good! The Sony VAIO VGN-T350P is the world's first 'Cellular Modem Built In' notebook or laptop. It has an Integrated EDGE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth for the ultimate in wireless networking. EDGE stands for 'Enhanced Data for Global Evolution' thru the Cingular Wireless national network. Although, Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network will be much faster (300 to 500 Kbps) - it is only available in 32 cities as of yet. Sony's WAN wireless system averages out at around 142 Kbps - still fast enough for emailing and web browsing. This new WAN technology comes packaged in Sony's sleek ultraporable VAIO T series, the VAIO VGN-T350P hits the scales at a very light 3 pounds. And with dimensions of 10.7 x 8.1 x 1.3 inches, it's small enough for a briefcase or a bookbag. Despite its small package, this VAIO is like others in its class - a very powerful little notebook. Powered by an 1.2-GHz Intel Pentium M CPU with a 4,200-rpm 60GB hard drive. Its not the fastest but it does have sufficient storage for most needs. The display is a XBrite 10.6-inch/WXGA screen with (1280 x 768) Resolution - bright and surprisingly big enough for email and web browsing. Battery life is the other major selling point of this Sony - coming in at 5 hours, depending on your computer tasks. However, this road-warrior will appeal mainly to those who want to be connected to the web, no matter where they are. Even at $80 amonth - the price for cellular connection is worth it. Finding a hotspot has always been a hassle for most people. Verizon's EV-DO network is helping to solve the problem but it's service is only limited as of yet. Other connections on the VAIO VGN-T350P include 3 USB 2.0, VGA, FireWire, headphone, mic, modem and Ethernet. Additional Drives: 2.4X DVD+R DL/2.4X DVD+RW/2X DVD-RW/4X DVD+R/-R/2X DVD-RW/8X DVD-ROM/10X CD-W/24X CD-R/24X CD-ROM (write speeds)(read speeds)- in other words 'DVD and CD with the works! The Sony VAIO VGN-T350P is a very portable and 'well-connected' notebook or laptop that will appeal to those road-warriors who demand the ultimate in portability and function. The new EDGE cellular wireless connection may just set a new standard for those who want to be totally connected while being totally free! Battery life is around 5 hours depending on your computer tasks. Size: 10.7" Width X 8.1" Height X 1.3" Depth @ 3 pounds Cons: Keyboard takes getting used to, bit sluggish 4,200-rpm 60GB hard drive. Pros: Good battery life, portability, EDGE cellular wireless connection. Conclusion: The ultimate road-warrior ultra-light notebook and very portable all-around package.
