Some Tactics For Getting Those Top 5 Spots In Google

Google Spot!

Actually, getting in the #1 spot is best but I will settle for the top 5 or
even anywhere on the first page for very competitive keywords. Obtaining those top
rankings for your targeted keywords in Google will obviously be very important to
achieving your online goals.

I don’t have some magic formula just online marketing stuff that works. Very simple stuff
that everyone can do to get those top rankings. Here are some things I do:

– article marketing thru the free article directories

– create videos on my niche products

– make blog posts in my niche areas

– do press releases for my targeted products

– create free ebook guides on my subject areas

– build separate lists for each major niche market with follow-up emails

– participate in online forums with my sig links added

– find out my competitors’ main backlinks and duplicate them

– create Google Alerts for my major keywords and add comments/links to the ones I like

– keep adding fresh content pages to my sites keyworded to phrases used by buyers

Now on second thought, some of those are not so simple but they can be easily
done by most webmasters. Or you can get someone to do them for you, for example,
I get my videos done for me. If you’re poor at writing or have little time you can
even get someone to write your articles for you as well.

Still, these tactics are fairly basic online marketing stuff which anyone can do
to get those higher rankings. Perhaps, what many webmasters fail to realize, getting
and keeping your keywords on the first page of Google does take a lot of work and time.

For very competitive keywords, I usually put in a year’s work to get to those top
spots. It sometimes takes a lot less if your content (an article or video) becomes
viral and lands on a lot of sites, that does happen but for me, it is mostly building
steady one-way quality links back to the page or site I want ranked high.

However, it is this time factor which DEFEATS most people, they don’t have the patience
or the resources to wait it out. After a couple of months, they throw up their hands
and come away believing all this Internet marketing stuff is for the birds.

Don’t get the wrong idea, there are probably programs and systems out there which
will give you instant success on the web – I just haven’t found them yet, nor am I
really looking since I have figured out how to get those top rankings and earn money
on the web. However, the catch is, it usually takes around a year or two of hard work
before the serious money starts flowing.

There are exceptions, if you’re good at writing articles, you can get immediate
traffic and a few sales. Same goes if you’re into making videos and they become
popular and featured in Google… you will make some sales.

However for steady targeted traffic which flows regularly and keeps the sales
coming each day – then you will need to keep those top rankings in the search engines
for your keywords, especially in Google. Once you get those top rankings, I find
you have to maintain them by continuing to build links by writing articles, making
posts, creating videos… and so on.

My goals are very modest, steady money for me is around $100 – $300 aday,
keep in mind I am doing affiliate marketing or sales where I usually get
from 2% to 5% since I am promoting high-end electronics which offer low
commissions. I also do some ClickBank type info products where the commission
rates are much higher – 50% or more.

I also concentrate most of my time on products/services which give me
a recurring income – make one sale and earn a percentage for years to come.
The trick here is to promote products where once clients sign up they tend
to keep these products for years… services like web hosting, autoresponder
services, telephone services, internet services and so on.

If you have your own products your daily earnings will be much higher, the same
thing if you do drop-shipping… but that also brings in other complications
and worries. I like affiliate marketing before it suits my lifestyle, I refer
the sales or clients and the merchants does all the rest.

Now, I have also found if you target longer keyword phrases which have little
traffic but also much less competition, you can bring in sales in a matter
of months, sometimes weeks. This “long tail marketing” as its called, those
faster but you have to cover a lot of ground to be successful.

I prefer picking “mid-range” keywords that have competition but if you put in
the work you will land on the first page of Google. I usually stick to keywords
that have around 1000 – 10,000 searches a month. Highly popular keywords that get hundreds of thousands or millions of searches I don’t bother with because I
know I just can’t compete with multi-national companies getting most of this traffic.

So it is a matter of picking the keyword battles which you have a good chance of
winning. You do need to do a lot of research to see who is ranking for these
keywords, what kind of backlinks they have and what kind of resources they’re
pouring into obtaining/keeping those rankings?

I also check to see who owns the domains in the top five spots or on the first
page, if one person or company owns 4 or 5 of these sites, it means you’re going
to have your hands full trying to compete for the top spots.

One simple strategy for getting those top spots in Google is to create two
or three keyworded domains competing for the top spot. Link these together
and one or in most cases all of them will land in the top three or four positions.
For lucrative keywords this can prove very profitable because your sites
are receiving the majority of the web traffic for those keywords.

However, keep in mind, in many niche markets major companies are now hiring
writers, SEO services and webmasters to get those top spots.

It sometimes can be unnerving – imagine you’re a small webmaster operating
in a niche for years and suddenly you have four or five top brand multi-billion
dollar companies competing with you for the same keywords in the search engines.
This happened to me and to Google’s credit, small webmasters still have a chance
to keep their spots on the first page.

How long before these small webmasters are totally wiped out is anyone’s guess,
but I believe for very lucrative keywords it is only a matter of time before
these big companies throw so much advertising revenue and SEO resources at getting
those top spots – a little guy will have a very slim chance of holding their
keywords.

Fortunately, there are countless small niche markets and products that an online
marketer can target and rank well for in Google with just a little hard work and
patience. Using some of the tactics listed above will get you to those Top 5
spots in Google – just give them and yourself some time to reach your goals.

Google Gives More Search Data To Webmasters

Google Gives More Search Data To Webmasters

You have probably heard about this already but it is very important,
especially if you’re like me and into search engine marketing.
Google thru its Webmaster Tools program is now sharing very detailed
search data for each individual search query made to your site.

What it means is this:

Say you have a site on “golfing” or “golf”.

You can now go to your Webmaster Tools account and click on a keyword
query such as “best golf clubs” which web surfers would use to find your
site.

Google will give you a break-down of its own search data:

– number of impressions

– your clickthrough rate (how many surfers click thru to your site)

– list of your site’s pages that were linked to in the results

Assuming all these numbers and data are accurate (there is a big discussion
going on right now, whether or not Google’s data is totally accurate), it will
give webmasters and marketers some useful information. It can help you improve
your conversion rate to get more visitors – which is the object of the game.

But a word of caution, don’t take anything coming from Google or any other
site on the web as gospel. I always like to compare any data with my own
web stats and weblogs… always make it a practice to cross-reference your
important stats with other sources.

Besides using your own site stats and Webmasters Tools, use Google Analytics,
use Alexa data, use your Adwords and your Adsense data… plus all your performance
reports from all your different affiliate networks you’re using like Commission
Junction.

By checking all these different sources, you will get a more comprehensive
view of how well your site is doing in regards to traffic and your visitors.

Regardless of how accurate it is, this new search data coming from Google is
well worth checking out and analyzing. Mainly because just increasing your
conversion numbers by a few notches can mean many more visitors to your site.

If you want to find out more about this topic and what it can mean for your
site, I suggest you check out this great page on WebProNews here:

Does Google Have Your Site On Speed Dial?

o Does Google Have Your Site On Speed Dial?

Google Spot!

Truth be told, for years I sat around and waited for things
to happen with my first site which I had placed on the web.
I did get some traffic and Google did index my site, so too,
did all the other search engines.

However, little else happened, sure I made a few sales but
nothing really to get excited about especially when you
considered all the time and money I had put into this project.
Actually, I was about to give up on all this web foolishness
when something changed in me and I came to the realization that
nothing simply comes to you; instead, you have to go out and
get it.

You have to fight for it!

The spark for me was seeing other sites, some much more
crappier than mine, ranking high in Google. What were they
doing that I wasn’t doing? And the answer was quite simple –
they were aggressively promoting their sites in Google and
on the web. They weren’t just sitting around and waiting for
things to happen, they were making things happen.

The gloves came off and I got down to work. And that as they
say has made all the difference in the world.

Here’s an article on what I did and what I am doing to get
Google to notice my site – you can do the same for your own
site. All of these programs are free to join and use. Why not
try them…

Does Google Have Your Site On Speed Dial?

As any webmaster will tell you, getting your site noticed and indexed
by Google is extremely important to your site’s success. Google controls
about 70% or more of all the search engine traffic on the web so getting
your content listed and ranked high by Google generally means tons of free
quality traffic flowing to your site.

Most webmasters are satisfied to take a passive role when it comes
to promoting their sites within Google. They are glad to get their
site/content indexed by Google and then patiently sit around waiting
for the slow dribble of search engine traffic to come their way.

However, there is another group of webmasters and online marketers
who aggressively market their sites and content to Google. They just
don’t stand around and wait for things to happen, they make things happen.
They spend their valuable time targeting Google with a steady flow
of quality content and links. They make sure Google is constantly
noticing and indexing their site.

Now we are talking about “totally legit” white hat SEO tactics
which will get your site noticed by Google. Aggressive tactics which
fairly puts your content into the whole mix of online interaction,
so that your content or site can’t be ignored by Google or any other
search engine for that matter.

First, you have probably already realized that social network
sites are quickly turning into the traffic hubs of the web. It’s
where the people go and it’s where you will find them. The search engines
obviously know this fact and are quickly indexing all these interactions,
links and content. Savvy webmasters are taking advantage of these
social bookmark programs to promote their own sites.

You must place your site into all this social interaction, it must
be a part of all these traffic hubs. You must create profiles in
all these sites and actively promote your content. Do you have
a profile for your site or yourself in these: FaceBook, Twitter,
MySpace, YouTube, iGoogle, Digg, Blogger, LiveJournal, Bloglines,
WordPress… and the list goes on.

You must create profiles and constantly submit content to these
sites with links back to your site. You must interact and place
your site into the whole social mix of what is happening – Google
constantly spiders these social networks and indexes the contents
and links. Have your site in all these places and Google will also
be constantly indexing your content.

Make sure you make it extremely easy for your visitors to BookMark
your content in all of these social bookmarking sites. One effective
and easy way to do this is to use the free AddThis button for all
your content. Your visitors can bookmark your content for you.
Likewise, also make sure visitors can easily Tweet your content.

Remember most of these sites are high PR6, PR7 or PR8 so Google
spiders then more frequently than lower PageRank sites. Just using
a site like Blogger/Blogspot (which Google owns) will get your
content listed in Google within minutes of posting.

Savvy online marketers also know Google is now more prominently listing
News Items, Product Listings and Videos in their SERPs or Search Results
for the most popular and lucrative keyword phrases on the web,
so these marketers aggressively use News Items/Press Releases
and Videos to get Google to index and rank their content. They
also optimize their product listings so Google indexes these as
well.

These marketers make sure their site/content is featured on
Google News. One easy way to do this is thru Press Releases
and another way is to get your content placed on sites which
Google News uses to gather material. For example, you can use a
site like American Chronicle where items are regularly picked
up by Google News.

Another simple way to promote your site/content to Google is
to use the major free article directories on the web. Article
marketing is not as effective as it once was in Google, but
it still works. Get your site’s content and articles featured
on the major article networks such as Ezinearticles, GoArticles,
iSnare, SelfGrowth, Buzzle, Article Alley, Ideamarketers…
and the list goes on.

Another venue is online forums related to your site’s topic,
so create profiles in these and promote your site. Google pays
special attention to this user-generated content and is constantly
indexing it. We are not talking about comment spam but helpful
posts with quality content. For example, Yahoo! Answers would
be an excellent example of this marketing tactic.

As you can see from above, many webmasters aggressively promote
their site/content to Google. They use simple, yet persistent
link building with quality link bait, articles, reports, posts…
to make sure Google is regularly indexing their site. And to
be even more effective they tie in all their site’s important
keywords to all this content and links. They make sure Google is
making the connection between these keywords and their sites.

Of course, the real key to effective online marketing is tracking.
You must track everything, including how well Google is noticing
your site and/or content. One simple way, besides closely studying
your own website log stats, is to create Google Alerts for anything
you want to track, including your site.

You can set up your free account here:

http://www.google.com/alerts

Google will send you email notifications whenever it indexes another
page anywhere on the web containing your site’s URL. This way you can
constantly see how Google is indexing your site and where those links
are coming from on the net.

You can effectively monitor not only your site but also the keywords
that you are targeting. Try to get three or four emails a day from
Google Alerts saying your content has been indexed and you will
truly have Google on Speed… well you get the picture.
