\nCan Google+ Stop Facebook From Becoming The #1 Site On The Web?<\/b>

All the talk this week has been about Google+ and can it beat
\nFacebook at the social networking game? If you just examine the
\nAlexa numbers alone… you will see that Facebook is beating Google
\nhands-down in some very important traffic stats.<\/p>\n

Actually, in both May and June, Facebook knocked Google out of the
\nnumber one position a couple of times, you can see this if you
\ncompare the stats for Google and Facebook in Alexa. But where Facebook
\nmust have Google really concerned is in the number of “Pageviews”
\nand “Time Spent on Site” – Facebook easily wins the day.<\/p>\n

Google had to do something to compete with Facebook, otherwise
\nGoogle would have to give up its position as the #1 site on the web.
\nPerception is everything on the web and Google would lose both
\nrevenues and reputation, if it has to settle for second place.
\n

\nWill Google+ become popular?<\/b>
\n
\n
\nGoogle+ might catch on or it might not, anyone remember Google Buzz,
\nGoogle Wave, or even iGoogle – those haven’t exactly been knockouts
\nwith 3\/4 of a billion users? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Right now, Google+ is getting some good press – like this PC World
\narticle giving “9 Reasons To Switch From Facebook to Google+”

\nThe whole “Trust” angle could be a major factor in the success
\nof Google+… I believe Google has built up a lot of trust with
\nweb surfers, this could bring onboard a lot of users.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But even with some good press and some good reviews, especially
\nwhen it comes to the “Circle” feature of grouping friends, doesn’t
\nmean hundreds of millions will be leaving Facebook for Google+.<\/p>\n

Once you have all your networks built up in Facebook, many
\npeople are not going to jump ship just because another program
\ncomes along, even if it’s from Google. Then again, we always
\nhave to remember, the Internet is very “fluid” and changes
\nquickly.

\nMySpace was once the most popular Facebook!<\/b>
\n
\n
\nBut many web users will always think of Google as a Search Engine
\nand leave it at that; they will keep their social connections
\nseparate.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

However, Google+ only has to cut into Facebook’s numbers, to
\nknock Facebook back down a couple of pegs. And\/or to stop Facebook
\nfrom getting to a Billion Users, which will have its own bragging
\nrights.<\/p>\n

Of course, I look at all this stuff from an SEO viewpoint, Google+
\nwill give Google another powerful way to rank web content. It will
\nbe another large pool of data Google can draw upon to discover
\nwhat content, sites, videos, articles… users are sharing and
\nrecommending.

\nI believe a major SEO shift is happening in the background…<\/b>
\n
\n
\nInstead of just backlinks, Google is now looking more closely at
\nyour whole site and content, ranking it accordingly. Google MAY
\nalso be getting ready to switch more of their ranking signals
\ntowards their OWN data coming from 160+ million Google Chrome users,
\nthe new Google +1 Button and the even newer Google+ social networking
\nplatform we are talking about here.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Plus, Google also has all that data from Youtube, Google Analytics,
\nAdsense and Adwords… and of course, all that countless data from
\nit’s own search engine and how people use it.<\/p>\n

In addition, we have big major changes on the horizon with ICANN’s new
\n“generic” or “dot anything” domains coming next year. This could
\nreally switch up the whole Seo\/Ranking game.<\/p>\n

But remember, Google is always in control… just recently they
\nde-indexed ALL “co.cc” domains for too many spamny links and for
\nviolating Google rules. All the sub-domains gone – vanished from
\nGoogle in one instant. If any of these new “generic” domains
\ngoes down the same spammy road, Google can just de-list the
\ndomain. Scary to say the least…<\/p>\n

This also shows, regardless of how the Facebook vs Google+
\nplays out, Google is still in the driver’s seat and wheels
\nenormous power on the web. If I were Facebook, I would be
\nadding new features like video chat… and keeping a close
\neye on what Google is doing with Google Plus.<\/p>\n
