From my own observations, I get the general feeling that many webmasters
\ndon’t realize how important a role links play in your online success.
\nNow, almost everyone knows getting quality one-way backlinks to your
\nsite is vital to getting higher rankings, especially in Google.<\/p>\n

But most don’t realize, the sites you LINK OUT<\/b> to from your content
\nis just, if not more important, for increasing your rankings.<\/p>\n

You must be extremely careful who you link out to on your site. Search
\nengines are simple robots which have been programmed to gather and rank
\nthe content on the web. Obviously, if they’re ranking keyword content,
\nthose programmed robots are going to group all related websites together
\nin order to supply the best answer to the web search user.<\/p>\n

Linking out to popular, high-ranking PR sites is very important. Even
\nranking out to your higher-ranked competition can even be beneficial to
\nyour site because it shows the search engines your site is in the whole
\nmix. Especially if you have an authority site, linking out to other
\nauthority sites is only natural and is expected by the search engines.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the more your site interacts with these other authority sites,
\nwill help your rankings. Get involved and submit valuable content to
\nthese sites with links flowing back to your content. You must interconnect
\nyour site with the major players in your niche.<\/p>\n

However, you must be careful not to link out to bad neighborhoods or
\nsites which are considered undesirable by the search engines. Don’t link
\nout to any content farms or what are perceived as content farms by the
\nsearch engines. These sites are considered a form of spam and will drag
\ndown your rankings.<\/p>\n

Also, linking out to sites which contains the big “no-no’s” such as drugs,
\ngambling and sites showing those naughty bits. Avoid linking out to those
\nkinds of sites at all costs.

\nBuild Your Own Neighborhood<\/b>

\nIn recent years, one of the most frightening SEO tactics I have seen in
\nsome of my most lucrative keyword niches, companies are building whole
\n“neighborhoods” of sites which they own and rank well for in the search
\nengines, especially Google. All these sites are keyword related and boost
\neach other up in the rankings so that a company would have not one, but
\nhave 5 or 6 sites on the first page of Google for a lucrative keyword phrase. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This is probably the future of the web because the search engines will
\nhave a hard time figuring who owns what? They just see a list of authority
\nsites all connected to one another… they don’t realize all these sites
\nare owned by the same company or individual. Don’t just build and promote
\none site, build and promote 10 sites or more in your chosen niche.
\n

\nBe Your Own Competition!<\/b>

\nDon’t laugh, this SEO tactic is very effective and much more common
\nthen many webmasters realize. A poor man’s version of this “Build Your
\nOwn Neighborhood” is building a whole series of link wheels using free
\nblogs and sites like Blogger, Squidoo, WordPress, YouTube, Livejournal,
\nEzinearticles, Twitter, Facebook… and so on.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Your goal is to build up your rankings by connecting all this theme-related
\ncontent together… this is one way the small webmaster can compete with the
\nlarge companies that are building\/buying all those links and sites.<\/p>\n

Of course, the search engines don’t like all this SEO manipulation and have
\nput in filters to try and block such tactics. But so far, it is an uphill
\nbattle just tattling all these companies. And at the moment, these companies
\nare winning and cleaning up.<\/p>\n

Regardless of your opinion on this matter, you must get your content out
\non the web. These days that means tying everything together by using Twitter,
\nYoutube, Facebook, Blogger… and I like to believe the higher the quality
\nof your content, the higher it will rise in the search engines. The more
\n“real” social bookmarks your content gets, the higher it will rise. But
\nI am a hopeless romantic, real SEO is much more cynical and cut-throat.<\/p>\n
