\nand now Twitter – have become so popular with Internet users
\nyou just can’t ignore them or pretend they don’t exist. They
\nare a force to be reckoned with and must be dealt with in your

Twitter is probably the one you should be paying the closest
\nattention to at the moment. If you’re not familiar with Twitter
\n– it’s simply an online messaging\/contact system where you send
\nshort messages (tweets) of 140 characters or less, to all your
\ncontacts or people who have subscribed to your Twitter
\naccount and are following you.<\/p>\n
These messages can be about what you’re doing, programs you’re
\nsupporting or links that you are promoting and so on. A very simple,

Needless to say, it has taken the world by storm and Alexa now
\nranks Twitter as 50th of top sites on the web. It just seems
\nlike everyone now has a Twitter account and are following their

As a social contact and list building tool, Twitter can’t be
\nbeat… some even argue it will bypass email as a way to
\ncontact your list. Mainly because you don’t have to worry
\nabout the “s” word.<\/p>\n

Recently, Webpronews has reported Twitter will now be
\nsearchable and the content in the links in your messages
\nwill be indexed and ranked. They will have an algorithmic
\nranking system much like the one Google has to rank it’s
\nindex.<\/p>\n
\n“According to CNET, Twitter’s new VP of Operations Santosh
\nJayaram says that Twitter Search, which currently searches
\nonly the text of Twitter posts, will soon crawl links included
\nin tweets, and index content from those pages.” <\/b><\/p>\n
Basically, what this will mean is that Twitter will
\nvirtually become a search engine – one run by millions
\nof users who will vote with their subscriptions and usage
\nof the content. Online democracy in it’s purest form as
\nusers could decide what’s valuable or not.<\/p>\n
Of course, this could prove to be a major rival to Google
\nin the coming years. And if you think Google is too
\npowerful to be unseated, then you haven’t been on the
\nweb long enough to know everything passes, everyone
\nhas their day and then we move on.<\/p>\n
Twitter, if it’s not snatched up by Google, will also
\nprove to be a major competitor in the valuable search
\nmarket. One that offers some interesting options to
\nthe traditional type of search we have now – one that
\nis more related to sites that let users vote up or down
\nthe content they want to see featured in the index.
\nSites like Digg could be the role model for this new
\nsearchable Twitter.<\/p>\n
Regardless of how all this plays out – the question
