After Backlinks Your Most Important SEO Factor Is?<\/b><\/p>\n

Last week I told you about getting backlinks to your
\nsite and how important they are for getting higher
\nrankings and for bringing in quality traffic. After
\nI sent that email I started thinking about what’s my
\nnext most important SEO factor?<\/p>\n

After backlinks – your SEO comes back to your “on page”
\nfactors which will affect your rankings in the search
\nengines, especially Google. After much consideration,
\nand after years of ranking in the search engines for
\npopular keywords, I have to say your “Title Tag” is
\nthe next most important SEO factor.<\/p>\n

This really tells the search engines what your page
\nis about and what they will find on the page. It shows
\nup in the Index and it’s what surfer see in their browsers.
\nIt is extremely important to get this right if you want
\nyour pages to rank high.<\/p>\n

Put your main keywords at the beginning of the title
\ntag and keep the title around 60 – 65 characters if you
\nwant the full title to show up in Google. In Yahoo,
\nit’s exactly 120 characters so you can have a longer
\ntitle but Google won’t show it all.<\/p>\n

Try to keep all the title tags on your site unique –
\ndon’t use the same title for different pages. This will
\nnot only confuse your visitors but also the search
\nengines.<\/p>\n

Over the years I have been breaking up the title tag with
\na “|” has worked really well for me. As in the following
\ntitle:

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I don’t know exactly why it works but I believe the search
\nengines are breaking up the title and reading it as
\ntwo major keyword phrases. Probably puts more emphasis on
\neach of them for ranking purposes.<\/p>\n

As for choosing titles for pages, what has really worked
\nfor me is finding and using the “long tail keyword phrases”
\nweb users are searching for on the web. Placing a popular
\nquestion in the title tag and then answering that question
\non the page works for me.
\n
\nExample: “Where to find cheap laptops?”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nNow another key SEO element which goes hand-in-hand with
\nyour Title Tag is your URL Tag or name… I always try
\nto keep these the same. For example, in the one above
\nI would use
\n
\nwww.yoursite.com\/where_to_find_cheap_laptops.htm<\/b>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

as my URL for that page.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Notice that I am using an “_” or “underscore” to divide
\nup the words in my URL. Most experts suggest you use
\na “-” or “hyphen” to break up the words, but the underscore
\nhas always worked for me so I keep using it.<\/p>\n

And for some reason, when I first started writing up my
\nhtml pages – I used “htm” instead of “html” for the closing tag
\non all my pages. The only place I use “html” is in or on the
\nindex page, such as “index.html”.<\/p>\n

So the title of your page is very important for SEO reasons,
\nI also believe Google is now placing more emphasis on the
\ntitle – almost to the point where somewhat spammy titles and
\ndescriptions are given higher billing.<\/p>\n

I follow hundreds of keywords daily, and I have noticed
\nGoogle SEEMS<\/b> to be paying more attention to keywords
\nin the URL and in the Title, plus description when ranking
\npages… including and even repeating your keyword phrase
\nthroughout your Title, Description, Content and your URL
\nseems to get you ranked higher.<\/p>\n

I use the word “seems” because with Google drawing any
\nfirm conclusions regarding SEO takes a big leap of faith.
\nCracking how they rank their pages is a whole industry
\nin itself and we won’t go there.<\/p>\n

But writing good optimized “Titles” with your major
\nkeywords at the front will go a long way in getting your
\npages noticed and ranked by the search engines. Then follow
\nup your good Title Tag with your same Title keywords in
\nyour URL for that page will go even further to help with
\nyour SEO.<\/p>\n

Simple stuff but it works for me and it should also work
\nfor you!<\/p>\n
