It was while I was reading a WebProNews Article entitled
\n“Google Has People Scared To Link To Their Own Content”
\nthat I realized for many webmasters and site owners, Google
\nhas become our boogieman. One which scares the “Bejesus” out
\nof any honest hard-working webmaster!<\/p>\n

It also got me thinking about historical equivalent figures
\nor situations that would match our current dilemma with Google.
\nThe best I could come up with was McCarthy or McCarthyism.
\nThe type of fear-mongering and downright hysteria associated
\nwith Google’s latest series of Algorithm Updates such as Panda
\nand Penguin can be compared to what happened in the 50’s McCarthy
\nera.<\/p>\n

Some may argue McCarthyism was too serious an issue or caused
\ntoo much damage to innocent folks to be applied to Google and
\nthe SEO world. However, don’t ask the webmasters and site owners
\nwho have lost their livelihoods because of the recent Google
\nupdates – for them, suddenly losing everything is not a joke
\nand is definitely a serious matter.<\/p>\n

Many more webmasters are struggling in very difficult times and
\nsimply can’t figure out why Google has turned so negative in
\nregards to their site. Most are doing strictly Whitehat SEO and
\nfeel their site has been “blacklisted” by Google for some unknown
\nerrors along the way.<\/p>\n

This all reflects back to the McCarthy era where people were
\nbasically fighting ghosts and untruths, but the suffering was
\nvery real. The same can be said for the Panda and Penguin Updates.<\/p>\n
