Google Caffeine – Are You Ready For It?

……………………………..
Update to the Post Below:

The Google Caffeine Sandbox URL has now been taken down by Google.
While Caffeine has not been rolled out (as of yet) it will be live in at
least one data center before it’s fully implemented – according to Matt Cutts
in an interview given here:
http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2009/11/10/

We have assurances that Caffeine won’t be fully introduced until after
the holidays – if we can take Google at its word.
…………………………..

We were first told about Google Caffeine last summer and
it caused a big stir. Well, at least among webmasters
and search engine marketers, the general public couldn’t
care less!

However, if you’re a webmaster or doing any type of
promotion/marketing on the web you better become
familiar with Google Caffeine. It’s in your best
interests to find out all you can about it because
it may affect your site’s rankings and traffic.

What is Google Caffeine?

It is the codename given Google’s next-generation
search infrastructure which is supposedly going to replace
Google’s current index system. In other words, this is
Google’s updating or modernizing of how it indexes pages
on the web. It is supposed to be much faster, more accurate
and more relevant than the current Google.

Why should you care about Google Caffeine?

If you’re a webmaster or marketer Google Caffeine will
affect your site’s rankings once it comes on stream.
That is, your current keyword rankings which you now have
in Google may not be the same in the new improved Google
Caffeine.

Is there a way to check my keyword rankings in the new
Google Caffeine?

Perhaps, all indications are that using the developer preview at

http://www2.sandbox.google.com

will give you some indication of what your Google Caffeine
rankings will look like. This URL is backed up by Matts Cutts
(main Google spokesperson) on his blog. And checking your site
and keywords rankings thru this sandbox is probably a good idea.

However, word of caution, Google NEVER lays all of its cards on
the table – nor should it, especially when you’re running a
multi-trillion dollar company whose life-blood is online search.
It must protect the integrity of its main asset which is
it’s index.

Actually, I am just hoping this Google Caffeine or parts of it
is not already live… because I did a lot of checking with the
URL above and my sites go up with the new index. Presently, I
am not seeing much movement in my rankings. A few have gone down
and a few have gone up – just the general normal swing that I see
from week to week in Google.

Will Google launch Caffeine during the vital Holiday Season???
In the past, a few major Updates have come just before Christmas.

When Google Caffeine actually hits is anyone’s guess, but
it’s probably coming soon, if not already implemented in some
stages. The more important question for you and your site – will
it be a mild seasonal storm or full-blown Category Five Hurricane?

Here’s how you can do a simple check:

1. Open up two browsers or windows on your computer:

http://www.google.com

and

http://www2.sandbox.google.com

2. Compare & Check how many links you get when you place
these into both Google search engines:

links:www.yoursitename.com
link:www.yoursitename.com

links:http://www.yoursitename.com
link:http://www.yoursitename.com

3. Now, do the same for your major keywords and compare
the results.

I hope both your site and keywords still hold-up in Google’s
new search engine.

My Biggest SEO Mistake

o My Biggest SEO Mistake And How You Can Avoid It

…….

Over the years I have pretty much figured out enough about
Google searches in order to get my major keywords listed on
the first page in their results. Sometimes in the top spot
but mostly in the top 5 listings.

Now we are not talking about very competitive keywords that
get 1000’s of searches each day. Usually, keyword phrases that
get from 10 to 100 daily searches – believe me, all this quality
traffic adds up very quickly.

For the most part, Google has been very stable, that is: my
keywords have remained on the first page for years. Of course,
I am constantly creating new links with article marketing,
unique content on my sites, ebooks, videos, software downloads…
all providing link bait so that webmasters naturally link
to my content because they believe their visitors will benefit
by visiting my sites.

However, recently all is not well in Google Land, for some
puzzling reason or reasons – two of my most popular keywords
have been bouncing like they’re attached to a bungee cord.
Popping in and out of Google’s first page results. One week
they’re on the first page, next week they’re down to around
#50.

At first, this didn’t worry me… Google was probably doing
another one of their endless updates to their Algorithm (whole
set of rules and math stuff they use to rank pages/keywords)
and things usually settle back to normal in a few days or so.

Not this time, those competitive keywords have been erratic
for months – and this after being very stable for over 3 or 4
years. This has totally unsettled me to say the least.

What do you do when Google doesn’t do what you want them to do!

I have been trying to figure out what’s going on with these
bouncing keywords? I have some possible reasons why these keywords
are bouncing but with Google it is extremely hard to pinpoint
what exactly is happening… guess if we knew all of Google’s
secrets we would all be sitting pretty high in the rankings.

Anyway, I have placed my whole investigation and findings in
an article that may or may not be of help to you. Again, until
I firmly pinpoint my mistake and discover exactly what’s happening,
this keyword ranking issue in Google is still open.

I even went so far as to contact Matt Cutts in his blog about
it but of course, I knew I wouldn’t get an answer. And this was
rather foolish of me, but I thought Google’s recent openness with
webmasters would give me some information of what’s going on
in my case. It also shows my sense of frustration with those
bouncing keywords and I will try anything to solve the problem.

Anyway, here’s the keyword situation in more detail and what
I (believe) to be causing this erratic bouncing of my keywords
in Google.

Imagine this: for years you have kept the number one
spot in Google for a very lucrative and profitable
keyword phrase. This keyword alone adds hundreds of
dollars of daily income to your bottom line. Then
suddenly your number one keyword starts bouncing like
it’s attached to a yo-yo with a fifty-foot cord.

One day your keyword is at #1 in Google, next day it
drops to the #50 spot. Ouch!

You’re scrambling to find out the reason for this
disastrous fall from Google’s graces. After you have
exhausted all your cuss words, your limited but very
fine-tuned SEO brain goes into overdrive and starts
dissecting the problem.

How Much SEO Do You Need?

o How Much SEO Do You Need?

o Google Ranking Factors

o Best Place To Learn SEO

…….

If you have a website you’re probably fussing over
your rankings in the search engines, especially Google.
The higher your rankings you achieve for your chosen keywords;
the more traffic you will get.

Many webmasters and companies spend thousands of dollars each
month in order to get their keywords and sites up to the
top of the list. If you’re into affiliate marketing, your daily
income will rise and fall almost parallel to your rankings.

Now, if my earnings increase, I know automatically my rankings
have gone up, especially in Google. If my earnings go down,
I know my rankings have gone south. Some times even a drop or
rise of one place on the first page SERPs will affect how
much you earn.

Obviously, because of this fact, SEO or how well I am optimized
for the search engines is very important to me. I am constantly
building quality links and quality content for my sites. Some
keyword battles you win, some battles you lose. I have been
fighting some keyword battles for over 3 or 4 years!

But how much SEO is enough? How much SEO should you do with
your sites? Many webmasters make sure all their on page set-up or
lay-out is done exactly to what the SEO experts say you should
do. This is not a bad idea. Make sure your Title, URL, Headlines,
Keyword Density… are all laid outright. These are things
we can control and adjust to meet the SEO standards.

Other SEO or ranking factors are much harder to predict, many
of them are simply out of our control. How other sites link
to us, what they put in the anchor text, what other sites
say about us… simply things we can’t control.

I believe the over-riding reason why your site is listed at
the top of any rankings has to do with the number, the quality
and the number of sites linking back to your page. The higher
the number of related quality one-way links you have flowing
back to your site, the higher it will perform in the rankings.
Your anchor text is very important (underlined part of a link)
it must contain your keywords or variations of it. The content
on the linking page should be related to your chosen keyword.

Get this part right and you will get high rankings.

Or at least this has been my experience – all the other ranking
factors do count but this is the over-riding factor in my opinion.

Another major ranking factor lately has been the importance
Google is placing on social media links. Get your content to
the first page of Digg with lots of diggs and it will rank high
in Google. This is not surprising when you consider the nature
of these social bookmarking sites… it really is an actual
“vote” for the quality of your content. Getting Delicious
bookmarks has a similar positive effect.

Now if you’re wondering about how Google ranks pages or your
keywords… Google has around 200 ranking factors (with filters
and penalties thrown in to make all our lives interesting)
which it uses to rank your keywords/pages.

Now the question still remains, how much SEO do you need?
How much time should you spend at optimizing, building links,
worrying your head-off over the latest Google Itch?

The answer always comes back to quality content. Create a site
that has quality content and the SEO will take care of itself.
People will link to your site, you will get bookmarks in all
the social media sites, Google will find your content and
rank it. Your SEO will grow naturally as your site grows.
Keep building more pages, keep targeting more and more
related keywords in your niche or subject and you will get
higher rankings.

Now, of course, some webmasters are a little more aggressive
in how quickly they want their rankings to rise in the
search engines. Here’s something you can do if you want
to go into the SEO battle full-force.

1. Download SEOquake and place this SEO toolbar plug-in on your
Firefox browser.

2. Go to Google and type in the keyword or keyword phrase
you’re targeting with your site or content.

3. Click on the number one ranking and observe how many
pages it has indexed, PageRank, how many links it has, age of
the site… and so on.

4. Then click the page info button and study all the on-page
factors this site has and notice what it’s doing with its page
and keyword density lay-out.

5. Check all the backlinks this site has in the different
search engines. Copy or try to get the same backlinks for
your site that your competitor has acquired. Then get more
backlinks and/or higher quality backlinks than your competitor.

6. Watch your rankings rise…

Just a few more words of wisdom and we’re done. Some battles
will be too tough to fight, the competition will be so
stiff you just can’t compete. Other battles will take a long
time; months, even years before you rise to the top.
Your best bet is to choose long-tail (multi-worded) keywords
that have little or no competition. You can rise to the top within
days, even hours. The sweet thing is this: long-tail keywords
are often the most lucrative and bring in the most sales.

For, in the final analysis, you just don’t want SEO, you want
smart SEO. And you will quickly learn, most times you can
out-smart your competition, even if you can’t out-rank
them.

you will find on the web. Bookmark this page and refer back to
