Google Marketing And How Not To Get Burnt

Google Spot!

I have always defined what I do on the web as “Google Marketing”
because the majority of my traffic and sales come directly or
indirectly from Google.

Needless to say, like millions of webmasters/marketers, I have
been scrambling to cope with Google’s latest Algorithm changes
which started with the Panda Update and have been continuing
all spring. Unlike past years, these updates have legs and
are far-reaching, even for well-established authority sites
which are not getting their traffic numbers or rankings back up.

Usually with other major Google Updates, all you had to do
was wait a few weeks or months and your rankings would bounce
back and things would continue as usual.

Not with these latest changes.

My own sites were not hit that hard, I did lose some traffic
and rankings… but my major pages held firm. However, as I
explained in an earlier mailout, my article marketing funnels
which start in the major article online directories such as
Ezinearticles, were hit extremely hard. Lower rankings for these
articles in Google means my traffic and sales are lowered as
an indirect result.

Back to the drawing board.

So I had to change my marketing tactics somewhat over the last
few months. I have gone back to creating much more “fatter” or
“meatier” content on my own sites. Instead of having smaller and
shorter web pages/content… I am going with larger pages which
have more links and many more resources for the end-user on them.

I have also injected “more” of my own “opinions” and “views” to
make my content stand out from the crowd. I also have more links
out to other authority related sites/pages directly dealing with
the topic on the page.

I am writing fewer articles for other sites unless they are unique
and only featured on that site. I regularly monitor my major
keywords with Google Alerts… and article links seem to have
disappeared from Google’s Index or taken a lower priority with them.
Most of my Alerts now are to content pages on well-themed sites…
Google seems now to be indexing content more at the main source,
rather than in article directories.

Anyway, if you want to find out more about how NOT to get BURNT
by Google and their rankings… I given a detailed account of
marketing tactics and opinions here:

The Two Real Keys To Online Success

BWMagic’s Internet Marketing Newsletter

The Two Real Keys To Online Success

If you have a site dealing with the whole subject of Internet Marketing
(I have two) you will surely get questions asking how all this “web stuff”
is done? Just how does one make the web give them a part-time or a full-time
income? What do you have to do…

While there are countless ways to make a living from the web and no we
are not talking about those hype-filled “overnight success stories” or
those “push button miracles” which will make the cash grow faster than
Donald Trump can say you’re fired.

But if you want to build a solid online business that will last for
decades to come, it definitely can be done. However, it will take some
work and time to build that business. Most people don’t like to hear that
and most end their online pursuits right there. Probably for the best,
because if you don’t have the time to spend at all this web stuff
– chances are great that you won’t succeed.

Now, starting a site or blog is quite easy, but creating quality content
over months and even years, is the hard part. Building quality backlinks
to your content takes a lot of time. So too, does the close monitoring
of your site’s traffic and stats to find the keywords which lead to a sale
or lead. Plus, constantly updating your site or content will also take
up more of your time and energy.

And we won’t even mention all the SEO techniques and tactics you have
to master, nor all the web marketing knowledge you have to acquire in
order to make it all work for you and your site.

Trial and Error

If you’re like me and thousands of other successful webmasters, you might
be lucky to stumble upon a few tactics which work or some content which
quickly appears at the top of the rankings in Google. At first this will
be more of a “trial and error” technique than any marketing genius on your
part. Or maybe you will persist for so long and offer up so much good
quality material – the search engines simply can’t ignore you or your site.

When it’s all said and done, I believe many beginning webmasters and marketers
simply stumble onto tactics or content which just clicks. Suddenly, you have
web pages which are producing income… so what if it’s only a few dollars
a day. That’s how I started but those first few dollars are extremely
significant because you then know it can be done.

You also realize once you have earned your first dollar… all you have to
do is to repeat the process to make another dollar.

This will probably be your “ah ha” moment. It will open your eyes of things
to come.

But you won’t stop there before long you will discover that the real benefits
of computers and the web is the fact that many tasks can be completely automated
and placed on autopilot. First, you will realize that once you build your website,
it will be up and running 24/7/365 regardless of what you’re doing. And once you
have that traffic flowing, it will be bringing in sales and leads around the clock.

Automation really is the key to making your online pursuits not only easier
but also much more effective. You can automate your list building systems,
you can automate your article delivery, you can even automate your content
creation in the form of visitor feedback and reviews, you can also automate
all your monthly payments and collections.

Automating everything also gives you more time to plan your marketing strategies
and tactics. It will also give you the time to create more niche sites and content.
Plus, it will free up your personal time so that you can do all the things you
want to do.

Once you have your online marketing and sites running on autopilot, you can
advance to the next important step which will increase your success even further.
That next step is “scale” or “scaling up” your marketing to increase those sales
and leads. Actually, this will come naturally, once you have a site or page that
is earning you income… you will instinctively want to create more pages and
more sites.

How far you “scale up” your online pursuits will depend upon your own preferences
and how busy or involved you want to become in your business. Some marketers start
creating niche sites like mad and even out-source the production of these sites
and content; paying other people to create those pages and sites for you. Instead
of a 10 page site, you have a 1,000 or even a 10,000 page site – creating income
for you, or instead of 1 site, you have 10 or 100 sites.

Scale And Automation Are The Real Keys To Online Success

Of course, some marketers go even further and hire workers or staff to run their
sites and create content. This is taking your business to the next level and can
bring its owns set of complications and risks.

Myself, I take a more safer route and keep my operations much simpler. I do
out-source my video production and article distribution… but mostly I create
all my content myself mainly because I want to keep a closer watch on the quality.
Plus, I like a less busy lifestyle and even with automation, running more than 10
or so sites are more than enough for me. In other words, I could scale up my marketing
but it would probably mean hiring workers and staff – which really is not what I am
looking for in my online business or in my life.

No doubt, you may be completely different and want a more involved role or a more
complex online business. Then using scale and automation will give you the tools
and means to go as far as you want.

How To Monetize Your Web Content

BWMagic’s Internet Marketing News

How To Monetize Your Web Content

Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions for webmasters
has to be: How do I monetize my web pages? How do I make money
from my online content?

As a full-time online marketer and webmaster, this is a question I
have considered many times and found my own answers through years
of trial and error. Of course, I have taken the passive route in
my quest for that online income. This means instead of producing
my own products, I market and promote affiliate goods and services.
I do NO direct selling on any of my websites, I collect no money
and I don’t even have a payment program or system in place.

All my income and commissions come from referring traffic or clients
to the affiliate companies which I promote. Totally passive.

These companies do all the selling, delivery of products, customer
support, everything… I just get a small percentage for having
referred that customer or client. This passive method has worked
extremely well for me but keep in mind, selling your own products
and services will be much more lucrative since you will receive
the majority of the profits instead of just a small commission
or referral fee.

However, if you’re like me and want a more “hands-off” passive income
from your web content, here are some of the things I have learned over
the years. You might find some of these tips helpful in your own
monetization. I have placed these tips in the form of a “q and a”
format…

1. Should I use Google Adsense?

While placing Google Adsense ads on your site or blog is extremely
easy, the rates are very low. You can make 10 to 100 times more
by using affiliate links instead of these ads. For example, for one
Adsense click you could get anywhere from a few cents to several dollars,
whereas with an affiliate program you can get from $10 to $100+ for
a click which turns into a sale. However, Google is one of most respected
and reliable companies on the web. They pay on time and should not be
ignored. I have used Adsense for years mainly because you can’t always
find affiliate programs for some content and besides, you can place
both affiliate links and Google Adsense on your pages.

2. Should I use Amazon?

Another very simple way to monetize your content is to place Amazon
products and referral links on your pages. Amazon’s referral rates
are slightly better than Google Adsense especially if you have high
volume sales but they are still lower in general. However, I have
found users tend to really trust Amazon and buy from them more frequently
and more often so conversion rates are much higher than any other
affiliate program I have used. For this reason alone, Amazon should
be on your list if you want earn money from the web. I have been
using them for years and find building your links are very easy,
so too is building whole “A Stores” on a particular topic or line
of products.

3. What is ClickBank and Should I use it?

ClickBank is one of the largest affiliate networks for downloadable
products such as ebooks and software. They pay some of the largest
commissions, 40% to 50% or more is very common. Very reliable, I have
been using them for years and you should include some ClickBank products
on your pages. Please note that ClickBank does deduct a small percentage
of your commissions to cover any returns, but it also means you don’t
have any dropped commissions – once you make a sale, you will get paid
for it.

4. What are affiliate networks?

Affiliate networks, like Commission Junction and LinkShare, are major
players in the online affiliate world. These affiliate networks represent
thousands of companies which offer products and services that webmasters
can promote. They handle all sales transactions and send out your
commission checks each month. Most of my affiliate programs are through
these affiliate networks with CJ being the top one mainly because
they have excellent feedback and tracking.

5. How do I find a profitable affiliate products or service?

Regardless of what you’re promoting, you must be very careful to pick
quality products that’s closely related to your content. These two factors
will mainly determine your conversion rates, although product ads and display
images do play a small part. If you use a network like Commission Junction
they will tell which company is making the most sales, they will also tell
you which ads are getting the highest return with the actual dollar amount
(EPC – earnings per 100 clicks). I always use this data when picking which
companies and products I promote on my sites.

6. Why do I need to create different income streams?

The real beauty of running an online business, you can have many different
income sources which pay you each month. You should plan on having at least
10 to 20 income streams, if one should dry up, you will have the others to
depend upon. Once you have quality traffic coming to your website, it is
just a matter of placing different affiliate links on your pages, I like
including at least three or four different companies on a page, this way
you can easily create different income streams for the same page. Throughout
your site, don’t just rely upon one company or product, have many different
affiliate links and companies.

7. What should be your main strategic objective?

Don’t make this mistake, instead of making one sale and getting paid for
it once, pick products and services which give you a re-occurring or
residual income. You do the same promotion and work but get paid for
years to come. I am still earning income on sales I made five years ago.
This will significantly improve your bottom line or your return on investment.
Products and services which have a monthly billing element are good candidates
for residual income… such as web hosting, autoresponder services,
tele-communications and so on. Don’t rule out forming partnerships
with businesses in the subject of your website, you might be surprised
at the response you get.

Effectively monetizing your web content will largely determine if you succeed or not, so try some of the tips above. Of course, there are many other ways to monetize your traffic such selling direct ads and links on your pages. The list above is not my full list but they are some of my top-performing programs and they should also work for you and your web content.
