How To Simplify The Whole SEO Process

How To Simplify The Whole SEO Process

Google Spot!

Lately, where SEO is concerned, I believe there has been two major
shifts.

1. Whole Site Ranking – After Panda, Google is judging and ranking
your whole site, rather than just one page or one piece of content.
Having a site filled with excellent content is no longer good enough,
this content must be quick to load, easy to read and have all the
right navigation and layout. You must be careful to have most, if
not all of your site, filled with original content. In addition,
you should also note that some webmasters or websites who were hit
hard by the Panda Update, have found creating subdomains for their
different sections of their sites have brought their Google traffic
numbers back up, especially any sections which may be different from
your general content.

2. Social Networks/Bookmarks – Google with the introduction of Google+
and the Google +1 button is starting to create its own social ranking
program and system. These social backlinks and rankings will play a bigger
role in how Google ranks pages and your site. Your site and content should
contain all these buttons and bookmarks – so that your visitors can
follow you and bookmark your content. I also believe in very near future,
if it’s not already happening, how MANY followers, fans, subscribers you or
your site have in Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Google+… will make a big
difference in how Google ranks your site and content.

Having said all that, like many webmasters, I am still pretty much
operating by the old SEO rules and practices. Creatures of habit.
For what it’s worth, here’s how you can simplify your whole SEO
process:

1. Try to create a short domain with your targeted keyword
in the domain name, go with a .com domain if you can get it and if
you have to use a multi-worded domain, try to get your keyword at
the beginning.

2. Create an “easy to navigate” unique content rich site which
is optimized for the search engines, but directed solidly at solving
your visitor’s needs. If you’re on a budget, one of the easiest ways
to do this is to use the free WordPress software/platform to create
a keyword optimized site. Make sure this site is totally intertwined
with all the latest social networking programs such as Twitter, Facebook,
MySpace, Linkedin, YouTube… make sure you have profiles/accounts
in all of these platforms to compliment your main site.

3. Link to main interior pages from your home or index page.
These interior pages should have your targeted keywords in the “Title”,
“URL”, “Meta Tags”, “H1 Headings”, “First Paragraph”, “Last Paragraph”
and use keyword variations throughout the content. Place a few in bold
print and italics. Don’t be afraid to create large pages and link out
to other authority sites in your niche. Don’t worry about keyword
density unless it goes over 4%… this should not happen if you write
naturally for your visitor and not for the search engines.

4. Build quality one-way links by creating articles, press releases,
blog posts, videos, viral reports… and submit these to the major places
on the web such as free article directories (my favorites are still
ezinearticles, goarticles, buzzle, ideamarketers, isnare and article
alley). The real trick here is to consistently produce fresh content,
which steadily builds your backlinks month after month, year after year,
decade after decade!

5. Do whatever you can do to enrich your visitor’s experience.
Add valuable free content, free ebooks or ecourses, offer a comprehensive
guide or guides to your visitors. Connect all this free content to your
autoresponder opt-in list or newsletter and build repeat targeted traffic
to your site. In addition, make it extremely easy for these visitors to
bookmark/follow your content in all the social media sites: Twitter,
Facebook, MySpace, Google +1, and so on.

6. Rinse and Repeat. One of the little known tactics about achieving
top rankings in the search engines, especially Google, is to create not one
site but two or more sites in your niche market. (If you’re on a budget or
time is short, try creating two pages on your domain related to the
same targeted keywords.) Instead of trying to rank for one site in Google,
create two complimentary sites on the same related keywords, and you will
find it much easier to get to the top spots. Interlink these sites and you
can even promote them together, just make sure they each have unique content
and adds more detail and/or information for the visitor.

Over the years, I have come to believe strongly, achieving high rankings
is not some complex process but just a matter of persistence. Consistently
promoting your content by building quality backlinks will get you to the
top and keep you there. But the whole trick is persistence, keeping at it,
day after day… building those links back to your content. I also believe
it is the number of backlinks which is the key and this has been proven to
me many times over the years. Many SEO experts will now argue that links
have taken a back seat to other factors such as site authority and structure,
but I am not convinced this has happened. At least not yet, but data from
the 160+ million Google Chrome users, the new Google +1 Button and Google+
social networking platform, may eventually lower the importance of backlinks
and PageRank.

However, at the present time, if I stop promoting a page or competitive
keyword, it usually drops from the first page of Google. To get it back
on the first page, all I have to do is promote it with a few articles,
blog posts, press releases, videos… and it jumps back into the top spots,
even Post Panda. I mention all this because many times, SEO firms and experts
will try to complicate things with convoluted explanations and complex processes.
While in actual fact, achieving high rankings can be simplified down to nothing
more than persistence and adding a few quality backlinks.

The Google Box – Chromebook

The Google Box – Chromebook

Google Spot!

Something a little different this week, as you might
probably know, laptops and everything dealing with them,
has been a passion of mine for years. My other big passion,
as you all know, is online marketing.

Rarely do those two interests meet or intersect, but they
did this week!

Mainly because Google is finally coming out with laptops/computers
based on their Chrome OS or operating system. We finally have the
“Google Box” – one simple device where you can access all the countless
programs Google has to offer.

Third-party companies, such as Samsung and Acer, will build the
Chromebooks but these devices will operate or have all Google
products such as the popular Chrome Browser, which now has over
160 million users.

But many believe myself included, that there is much more behind
Google’s move than just creating computers. That this move has
more to do with marketing in terms of gathering valuable data and
list building. Google has already announced search data from the
Chrome Browser may be used in their search results… just imagine
the data they can collect from millions of millions of Chromebooks
around the world.

And it won’t just be the software which Google is offering with
these Chromebook computers… they will lease these Chromebooks
out to schools and businesses along with all the support and services
needed to run them. Google is getting into the computer services
industry, which has long been a lucrative market for Microsoft.

“Nothing but the web”

That is Google’s slogan for promoting these Chromebook computers
and it’s very appropriate because everything will be web-based
or in “the cloud”. You can store/access all your files, photos,
videos, documents from the web.

Businesses, schools, and individuals can now have all their computer
services hosted on the web and ready for access – no matter where
you’re located. If you want to find out more about the first Chromebooks,
their prices and specs, including lease prices from Google and when
they will be available…

Keyword Maintenance – Keeping Your Keywords On The First Page Of Google

Keyword Maintenance – Keeping Your Keywords On The First Page Of Google

After the major Panda Update and all the other recent changes Google
did to their never-ending Algorithm, I was pleasantly surprised to see
simple keyword maintenance still works within Google. Surprised and glad,
because keeping your targeted keyword phrases on the first page of Google
is vital for your online marketing.

Or at least, it has been for me over the years.

Mainly because good quality targeted traffic coming from Google has been
the lifeblood of my online marketing. I have long since learned, it’s not
just getting those top rankings in Google which is important, but keeping
them there is the real key to your online success.

You simply must maintain your top Google rankings over the long haul
– month after month, year after year – if you want to succeed online.
My strategies or tips for keeping my hard-won rankings is quite simple
and I often refer to it as keyword maintenance. It simply means building
backlinks through the following methods:

Article Marketing

Most of my one-way link building is still done through article marketing
and while articles have taken a major hit with the Panda Update, they still
work. I use Google Alerts to help track whenever a page or site is indexed
in Google relating to my keyword phrases… lately I have noticed that
articles are listed much less frequently – my articles on GoArticles and
EzineArticles still being listed.

Releasing a few well written keyworded related articles every few weeks will
keep your site or content on the first page of Google. I place my keyword
phrase and variations of it, in the resource box of the article. I only use
a limited range of selected article directories, which include Ezinearticles,
GoArticles, iSnare, ArticleAlley, Buzzle, American Chronicle and SubmitYourArticle.

YouTube Marketing

I also use videos to build links and traffic to my targeted keywords. These
are simple videos related to my niche markets and keywords. And while the
links on YouTube are usually “no follow”, I still believe these have value
within Google’s ranking system.

Besides, a good popular video will get you listed on the first page of Google
for your chosen keyword phrase. I have had videos stay on that first page for
months at a time and I have tracked other marketers who have done even better
with their videos, especially within the YouTube framework, which is owned by
Google. Releasing a few videos a month, will keep your site or page center stage
and in the whole mix of what’s happening on the web.

Blog Marketing

Regularly posting related content with links back to your site is another
very simple way to maintain your top rankings in Google. I have several blogs
through WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal… where I can place unique content
with links in the first two paragraphs back to my sites. I also do some guest
blog posts or articles for other blogs and sites.

Again, the idea here is not to go overboard and start building backlinks like crazy,
but to have a steady number of links added each month. Making the occasional blog
comment in well targeted popular blogs is also very helpful for maintaining your
links in Google. You really do need to keep your site/page/keywords relevant and
involved in the whole discussion which is taking place on the web.

Social Media Marketing

I now use Twitter to tweet all my articles, blog posts and new content on my sites.
This is extremely easy to do and many sites/programs such as Ezinearticle and PRweb
will automatically tweet your content or you might just have to click a button to
get your content into Twitter.

I have also found it helpful to bookmark my content in Digg, Reddit, FaceBook,
Delicious… Plus, I also include the Addthis.com bookmark button beside all my
content and let my visitors bookmark it for me. Also a very simple way to get
valuable one-way links.

Press Releases

For the last few years, doing regular press releases related to my keywords
has been another important strategy for keeping those top rankings. I mostly
use PRweb but there are many free sites for releasing your releases which you
can use instead if you don’t want to spend any money. Keep in mind, your press
releases are picked up by Google News and listed there for several weeks.
This will also keep your site/content relevant and current.

In summary, using all of these simple link building strategies or tactics –
Article Marketing, YouTube Marketing, Blog Marketing, Social Media Marketing
and Press Releases – have helped me maintain my first page listings in Google
for my chosen keyword phrases. If I see one of my keyword phrases dropping in
the Google rankings, I simply increase my promotion by writing more
articles/posts/comments/press releases and/or doing a video.

Just remember, getting to the top of Google is only the first battle, but staying
there for year after year will be the hard part unless you religiously continue
to build backlinks to your content and maintain your rankings. Bit corny, but
think of your Google rankings as individual plants, which have to be continuously
watered by backlinks so that they will stay healthy and keep baring fruit for
years to come.
