BWMagic’s Internet Marketing News!

o Crashing The Traffic Party – How To Use The World’s Top Sites
To Promote Your Own Site

Most times, common sense is the only Internet marketing strategy you need.
All you have to do is use some simple reasoning to achieve your goals, many
times it is only a matter of using your head to figure out the easiest route
to success.

For example, one of the hardest obstacles to overcome for most webmasters
is getting enough traffic to their sites. You need traffic if your site is
to succeed – plain and simple. You must have traffic and lots of it.

It doesn’t take a genius to realize, in order to get traffic you must go to
the places/sites that have the majority of the traffic on the web. These top
sites command enormous amounts of traffic each day and they get thousands
of visitors each second.

So it stands to reason, you must put or place your site into this whole traffic
mix of these top sites. Fortunately, this is very easily done without too
much work on your part, but it may mean joining many of these top sites and
doing some self-promotion.

First up, you have to tackle the search engines which represent or controls
much of the quality traffic on the web. People use these sites to find what
they’re looking for on the net, you must get your site listed/ranked on these
search engines, especially Google.

Google is the number one site in the world and until Bing/Yahoo replaces it,
you must gear your site towards Google. This is not difficult, actually it
is quite simple. One of the keys to getting listed and ranked well in this top
site of the web is quality unique content. Just create unique quality
content on your site and Google will notice you and send you traffic.

I like taking a holistic approach to Google, it is not simply a search
engine, it is much, much more. You have to tie your site into all the many
different facets of Google – use iGoogle to create your profile,
use Google Products to promote your products, use YouTube to promote
your videos, use Google News to promote your latest news or articles,
use Google Docs to promote your PDF files and ebooks, use Blogger to
promote your blogs and RSS feeds… and the list goes on.

By incorporating or totally immersing your site into the Google online
juggernaut, you will receive plenty of quality traffic. I also like to
connect my sites with the commercial side of Google by using Adwords
and buying search traffic. I also use Google Adsense on my sites to
off-set the cost of buying that traffic. Actually, truth be told, I spend
the majority of my time – adjusting, optimizing and promoting my content
within Google.

Why?

We have to go back to the common sense factor again, my traffic logs
and stats show that Google sends me around 80% of my traffic. It is
only natural that I concentrate on optimizing my site and content
to please Google. But that doesn’t mean I ignore the other search
engines or the other top sites on the web, just the opposite is true.

Mainly because Google has a complex algorithm they use to rank sites and
content on the web. One major overriding part of these 200 or so ranking
factors is how well your site is connected with other sites/content on the
web. Getting backlinks from high PR sites is vital for achieving high
rankings. Webpages are given PageRank from 0 to 10, with 10 being the best.

Now, by activily connecting/promoting your site within the top
sites on the web, you’re telling Google your site is important.
Moreover, web users are telling Google your site/content is important
and relevant. Getting backlinks on top sites like Wikipedia, YouTube,
About.com, Ask.com… will tell Google your content matters to web surfers.
Likewise, getting your content bookmarked in all the social networking
sites like Facebook, MySpace, Digg, Flickr, Twitter… will tell Google
and the other search engines your content is relevant.

Proving that your content is relevant will be one of the major keys
to getting top rankings, especially in Google. Therefore, connecting
your content with all the major sites on the web makes sense, no matter
how you view it. Having your content discussed, bookmarked and linked
to will make all the difference in the world to the success of your
site.

Now, as mentioned before, getting your site/content connected and linked
from these top sites is not difficult. Simply join many of these sites
and create profiles, submit content, add your links and so on. Another
way is to make it easy for your site’s content to be bookmarked in many
of these top social media sites. I like using a simple button like the one
from AddThis.com which makes it easy for your visitors to bookmark your
content for you. Again, common sense and simple practicality wins the day.

So is your site well connected to the top sites on the web? Does
it have a presence in all these high volume traffic sites? If the
answer is no, then your site is probably missing out on a lot of
free traffic which it could be getting. Just make a conscience effort
to involve and connect your site/content with many of these top
sites on the web. You will be pleasantly surprised with the results
of your efforts. So start mingling now!

Hope this helps you in some way.

BWMagic’s Internet Marketing News!

The beginning of September has always been the most
dreaded time of the year for me. Summer has just ended and
the long cold days of winter lie in waiting.

The first days of September also means “Back To Work” time
for me. In years past, it meant getting ready for a new
school year and all the work that entailed. Now it means
getting back to my Internet stuff. Just guess which one
I would rather be doing?

It also means a time for new directions and changes.
Reassessing what works and where to best spend your time
and efforts. This year I will be concentrating on increasing
my traffic to my different sites and finding new ways to boost
those numbers.

Two new directions for me are videos and social media/networking.
Unfortunately, these two areas are way out of my comfort zone,
however, one thing I have learned from working full-time on the
web, you must follow the crowd, no matter where they lead you.

You must plug your sites into the whole mix of what is happening
on the web. Inn other words, you must follow the traffic. Right now
there is a definite swing to videos and the social networking sites.
You must embrace these two areas if you want to get maximum
traffic.

Videos

I have had enough success with videos that I went out and bought
a new camcorder (Canon Vixia HF200 – great little machine) with
the hope of making some “over the shoulder videos” of the different
marketing techniques and tactics I use in the daily running of my
9 or 10 websites.

Videos are a simple way to bring in traffic and sales. And it’s
not that difficult – I am still kinda shocked to realize some young
teenager not even in high school can pull in 4 or 5 grand a month
by partnering with Google Adsense on YouTube.

For many people that’s a full-time income. Heck, when I was in my
Starving Artist Stage – 5 grand would have made a nice yearly income!

Videos present an excellent way of producing sales and traffic.

They are also great for building your contact list. Many popular
YouTubers have lists of over 1 million subscribers. Just imagine
the marketing power of releasing a video about your favorite product
or program to hundreds of thousands of loyal subscribers.

Then there is the pure marketing benefits of using videos. It is
a perfect way to get your point across. I can’t remember any recent
major product launch that DIDN’T have at least one video on the
sales page. Videos have become a marketing stable for selling your
products – online or off.

So try producing your own videos or have someone else produce them
for you. If you’re like me, the real problem is getting the time
to make your own videos – I am hoping I will get the time to explore
for myself the whole process of making my own videos but if that
doesn’t work out I can still use the video services offered by such
places as Phantonwriters.com… they produce very professional videos
which work.

Video marketing is the wave of the future on the net so you simply
can’t ignore this excellent way of bringing in more traffic and sales.

Social Networking Sites

If you have been marketing on the web for some time – it’s really
hard to believe how new social media/network sites have changed
how business is done. The growing importance of Twitter is just
one example of how quickly these sites have invaded our daily
routines.

It has also become an excellent way to build your list of contacts
and an excellent way to announce any new product or program you want
your contacts to know about. Online marketers are taking advantage
of Twitter to build their traffic and to boost their sales.

I have started using Twitter myself but as mentioned before I am
not one for these social networking sites… I would rather concentrate
my marketing efforts on ranking high for my chosen lucrative keywords
but I can’t ignore Twitter because it has become a popular program
everyone and their grandmother is using. You have to take advantage
and plug your site and marketing into this whole traffic hub.

Mainly because your content must be seen as relevant by the search
engines and one simple way to do this is to tie it all in with these
new network sites… I make it a point to have my content linked
(in one way or another) to many of the top 50 sites on the Internet.
That’s why I like using sites/programs like Blogspot/Blogger,
YouTube, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, WordPress, Wiki, Craiglist…
etc.

Try linking/connecting your site/content to all these top ranked
sites in the world and you will see a marked improvement in both
your traffic and sales. You must place your content into the whole
mix of what’s happening on the web.

Getting your content into these places/sites is not difficult. In fact
it is extremely simple – you can even place your content there yourself
or have your visitors place it there for you.

Can’t count how many times I have told you about the free AddThis.com
button which lets your visitors bookmark your content in all of the
above sites FOR YOU. This button and others like it, actually works
if you have quality, interesting content to share… you will also
see a rise in your rankings because the search engines are paying
special attention of what content gets repeatedly bookmarked by ordinary
web users.

Using this social bookmark button or others like it is a simple way
to boost your traffic and sales.

Are you using it?

…………………………………………………………………………………………..
Other Ways Of Boosting Traffic And Sales
…………………………………………………………………………………………..

When I need to get more traffic and sales… here are some of the
things I do:

1. Write Quality Articles & Distribute Them All Over The Web

Doesn’t quite work as well as it once did but for popular articles
that get picked up and placed on countless related sites, article
marketing is still one of my most effective ways for getting traffic
and sales. I mainly use Ezinearticles, Phantomwriters, iSnare,
Submityourarticle… for getting my articles out there.

2. Put Out Press Releases

I am seeing great short term and long term results by using Press Releases.
They have become one of my major marketing tools of the moment,
I am mainly using PRWeb but it is rather expensive. So if you’re on a
tight budget, you can try the many free press release sites such as
www.1888pressrelease.com

3. Increase My PPC Advertising Budget in Google Adwords, Yahoo and
Microsoft.

When I want targeted traffic fast – I simply buy it! But be careful
because you have to know exactly what you’re doing with PPC or you can
lose a lot of money fast. So do your homework first.

4. Release a New Video On YouTube

YouTube is a great place for getting more traffic coming to your
site or sites. I like doing “how-to” videos and offering free guides
to build up my contact list of interested customers. The sale is in
the follow-up.

5. Post More Entries In My Different Blogs Around The Web

I have blogs with Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, Bloglines… this
always brings in immediate traffic to my sites and it is extremely
easy to do. Just make sure the content is of high quality and it will
get picked up or linked to on other related blogs.

6. Create More Keyword Targeted Content For My Many Different Sites

This is a more “long-term” solution for me, but this is the most effective
way to get good quality traffic, especially from Google. Until Bing/Yahoo
enters the picture, Google simply supplies the most search traffic on the
web so gear your sites towards Google for the immediate future.

7. Release a new viral eBook, Report or Guide

Many times I even create a new website to go along with these new guides.
The most vital part of selling on the web is that you must never play the
pushy-salesman role; but rather be a helpful guide who buyers turn to for
help and information. Learn the art of the “Pre-Sell” and you will
succeed online. Let the real selling be done by your affiliate partners.

8. Send Out Newsletters to all my Different Contact Lists

I run many newsletters and follow-up programs; it is still one
of the best ways to get repeat traffic to my sites. Sometimes
I wonder the wisdom of passing along the marketing tactics and
techniques I use to create profitable sites since I am really giving
my competition some valuable information that can be used against
me. But I have over-ruled myself and only keep the very vital
specific stuff relating directly to my sites secret.

9. Do Joint Projects With My Online Contacts and Fellow Marketers

The more you help others, the more you will succeed. This is also
the main reason I keep writing this newsletter, I have been tempted
many times to shut it down because of what I discussed
above – information can be used against you, especially in very
competitive niches. However, I get more good results than bad by
helping other people succeed online!

10. Use Your Site’s Raw Traffic Logs and Stats

When I get some spare time – I spend it digging through my raw
traffic log stats. I hunt down lucrative long-tail keyword phrases
that are already bringing in some traffic and sales. I then boost my
rankings for these keyword phrases by placing them in article titles,
blog posts, etc. and linking that content to my ranking page. By closely
monitoring what keywords are bringing in the traffic and sales…
I can adjust my marketing to rank higher for those keywords, mainly
in Google.

My content is ranked for thousands of keywords but the real trick is finding
the profitable ones and building traffic for those specific keywords and
boosting your sales. Close examination and tracking of my site’s traffic
logs will offer up the real jewels in the crown. The same probably applies
to your site or sites. Go find those long-tail keywords and exploit them.

Hope these tips help you in some way. Trying just some of them should
bring in more traffic and sales… they work for me and they should
also work for you.

Can Microsoft’s Bing Beat Google In The Search Engine Wars?

This week, like many online marketers who keep a close eye
on countless profitable keywords, I spent most of my time
giving Bing (the new search engine from Microsoft) a really
good run-through. I was mainly testing it to see how good the
results were compared to those given by Google, who is still
the top dog when it comes to the extremely lucrative online
search market.

My first overall impression of Bing has been surprisingly
positive. I really wasn’t expecting it to be so good, mainly
because it was coming from Microsoft and my opinion of them
lately has been permanently downgraded by my own trials and
tribulations with Vista on my brand new “IBUYPOWER” gaming PC.
What were they thinking… it had me scrambling for my old Windows XP
which I truly love using… lets just hope Bill and the boys get the next
Windows OS right!

In this light, I was very curious to see how Microsoft would
do with this new search engine or site? Would they give us
something useful or totally mess it up?

While one would like to remain objective in analyzing any new
search engine, our own viewpoints do creep into our judgments,
many a time without us even realizing it. So with this in mind,
please read the following information and critique of Bing in
this light. Also, since the majority of my present online income
comes directly or indirectly from Google, most of my own personal
opinions are slanted in favor of Google. I really like Google
and I have been using it personally for years. I can honestly
say I could not get through my marketing day without Google.
And this is not so much Google search, it’s Google Alerts,
Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Google AdSense, Google Docs,
Google Maps, Google Earth, iGoogle… and the list goes on.

But the question at hand – Can Microsoft’s Bing Really, Truly,
Honestly give Google Search a run for those all important search
engine dollars?

First, you really have to check out the Bing site or interface
and see it for yourself. Like Google’s, it’s very simple with only
search as the main function, as it should be. Your search can be
on the Web, Images, News, Maps, and more… does this sound
familiar to you? Does it remind you of another search engine?

There are also links at the top of the Bing homepage pointing
to Sympatico/MSN, Windows Live and Make Bing Your Homepage. There
is also a very scenic background picture which they seem to be
changing/rotating each day. This might seem like a minor point,
but in my opinion it’s a nicely added touch that will help visitors
remember Bing in their mind’s eye. Catching your potential user’s
attention should never be frowned upon when you’re discussing the web.

As a former artist I am always impressed when I see a nice
layout and design incorporated into a website. Bing gets top
marks for a simple, yet great design. It just has a little more
impact than Google’s now iconic homage to white space. But will
search users of Bing really be looking for scenic pictures or will
they be looking for good solid results to solve their questions
and problems. In most cases, they will be looking for the latter.
However, the background images on Bing could help distinguish it from
Google because the search results themselves are extremely similar
in many cases. Don’t know if this is good news or bad news for Google?

I was firmly struck with how same the results are in both search
engines. Since I am a ful-time online marketer, I monitor countless
keywords on a regular basis (hey, they’re my bread and butter), so
I have to keep a close watch on them. Thankfully, most of my first
page Google keywords are also being displayed on the first page in
Bing, so I can easily remain neutral in any upcoming search wars
should they occur, those Swiss guys have the right idea.

While the results and the way they are displayed, are very similar
in both engines, in my opinion, Bing has the better layout with
a much more pleasing arrangement of their listings. There’s a nice
preview button for each listing and it gives you related searches
and your search history on the left hand side of the page. More
importantly, the search results are substantive, for example,
if you search for Obama, in addition to the search results you
will get related Obama listings for Issues, Facts, Biography,
Childhood, Speeches and News. Also in this case, you have around
20 main listings running down the results page as opposed to Google
which usually gives 10 main organic listings. Although this is
changing as Google places in more News, Products, Videos
and Brand Name links into their rather crowded listings.

One slight difference, Google has the “Did you mean” feature
which helps correct your spelling and help you find the right
word you’re searching for. It would be curious to see how many
people/students/searchers use Google not for search but as a
gloried spell-checker! Regardless, this is still a major reason
for many people to keep using Google. Not to be outdone, Bing has
a similar function and will guess at the right word or spelling.

At the moment if you compare web traffic as measured by Alexa.com,
you will see that Google is in the number one spot. It gets the most
traffic of any site on the web but all of this is not search traffic,
only around 65% goes to search if you also count image search – gmail
counts for around 25% of the traffic.

In second place we have Yahoo.com but most people use that site
for email, around 43% and much less use it for search. MSN comes
in at number 6 and again visitors are using it for other things than
for search. You can note that Bing traffic is listed under
“runonce.msn.com” and accounts for roughly 20% of the traffic.

Curiously, I see from own log stats that Bing is regarded as a
site rather than a search engine. Most of my sites uses AWStats
and Bing is listed under sites rather than in the search engine
section. I am already seeing some traffic from Bing, be interesting
to monitor this traffic and see if it increases over time…
could be a good indication Bing is catching on with search users.

Can Bing truly compete with Google?

Well, judge for yourself, take the Obama test! Do a test search
of Obama in both Bing and Google. Compare the results – which
one do you like? Which one gives a better overall picture/summary
of Obama? Be honest, be true… which results would you like to
see in your searches? Does Bing give Google some real competition?
The answer to that question lies on both those pages… any search
engine who will beat Google must give quality results, as good as
or better than Google. Same holds true for Bing or any of the new
search engines which have appeared recently on the web.

Frankly, at the moment, I don’t see any search engine (old or new)
giving Google any real serious competition. Mainly because Google
hasn’t just remained a search engine, wisely, it has expanded its
functions and services over a whole list of web activities, way beyond
search. Combined, all these services (mostly free) have propelled the Google
Brand Name into the most serious player on the web. Even if someone
gives Google a run for all those search dollars… Google can easily
win the traffic war on so many other fronts.

Only time will tell if Bing can eat into Google’s 70% or more share of
the very lucrative U.S. search market. But if they keep it simple and
start offering the same or better results than Google, Bing (aka Microsoft)
could give Google a few hiccups, we could actually see some major battles
for the search users’ hearts and minds, especially among the hard-core
searchers. Bing does have an appeal and one can’t forget that Microsoft
does have more than a few pennies to throw at this venture.

In the end, because of Google’s dominance and well-deserved reputation
for giving quality results, not to mention a Brand Name that has probably
already leaped into our genetic code, only marketing and lots of it, will
give Bing an outside chance of beating Google. And if you’re laughing at
that statement, you probably have an attic full of GM stocks gathering dust.

Just slogged my way thru John Reese’s Traffic Secrets 2.0
- I had to read the badly transcribed Training Manual
because the slickly produced State-of-the-Art CD-Roms
wouldn’t work properly on my trusty Toshiba laptop. The
videos kept crashing – I finally read the minimum requirements
and you need Windows XP or greater, Pentium 4
2.4Ghz Processor with 512 DDR RAM… just to run
these CD-Roms. Gees Louise!

I did manage to watch a few of the opening videos – this
is the way this comprehensive training course on increasing
your website traffic should be viewed. Direct and immediate
instructions, as if you have the perfect view, looking over
John Reese’s shoulder as he goes about explaining all the
major techniques and factors for getting traffic
on the web.

Unfortunately, I had to slowly work my way thru a horribly
transcribed text made from the videos. Given all the
advice Reese gives about outsourcing and creating quality
content – a thorough proof-read and edit would have made
this $400 product more enjoyable if like me you couldn’t
get the videos to work. Reese must have used some kind of
voice to text software – for example, you get different
versions for Adwords such as “add words”, “ad words” and
so on.

Of course, this doesn’t subtract from the solid marketing
information being offered here – just makes it annoying to
absorb. But then again to be fair, this is a VIDEO course
and that’s the best way to absorb this information. Which
I quickly discovered after I upgraded to a new HP Elite Pavilion
PC with Quad Processors and 6 Gigs of RAM – I threw in a 24″
HDMI monitor just to be on the safe side. The CD-Roms worked
spectacularly on my new system.

In any case, no one should dismiss Traffic Secrets because
of a few jumbled words or dangling participles. John Reese
knows his stuff and in the end that’s all that matters.
You’re paying for the information and advice – not your
English teacher’s good graces.

If you’re new to web marketing, you may be wondering who
the heck is John Reese and why should I listen to him or
take his advice?

From running two web sites on Internet Marketing – I follow
most of the major names in online marketing. I first came
across John Reese when he was running a free advertising
site/program called Opportunity.com – which is now closed.
Lately, he has developed a similar type of program for blogs
called BlogRush – which is a free way to promote your blog
posts on other people’s blogs.

Most people know John Reese from when he made Internet
Marketing history by selling over one million dollars worth
of product in a day – that was way back in 2004 and that
product was Traffic Secrets.

Well, it’s four years later and this is Traffic Secrets 2.0 -
it’s a major update on the first TS product. (You get
access to this earlier product when you purchase his latest
offering.) The new traffic course concentrates more on the
new web media sites, social bookmark sites, video marketing…
where online marketing is heading in the immediate future.

I really like the way Reese explains these new ways of
marketing and how you must embrace them in order to fully
succeed on this new web. Reese gives concrete examples,
concrete ways to improve your traffic: go to this site,
check these stats, perfect this method, put this on your sites…
direct practical advice and directions that will help you
build your traffic.

Reese gives you a solid usable “Master Plan” which is composed
of 7 or 8 major areas or Blueprints you have to follow to improve
your traffic. These major areas are further divided into 10-15
steps you have to take to benefit fully from your online
traffic.

Reese describes all these steps in a very detailed fashion
in this traffic course, but don’t expect just one magic
bullet that will bring on the flood of traffic. Rather you get
a whole orchestrated array of tactics you should do to increase
your traffic, a very controlled approach that will get your
traffic numbers snowballing. You also get an online component
and forum to help you out with your traffic building tasks.

To be quite honest, I didn’t find Traffic Secrets 2.0 as
helpful as I expected, mainly because I already knew most
of the material from my own marketing. If you’re already a
full-time affiliate marketer using Commission Junction,
ClickBank, Adwords… with many SEO optimized niche sites
holding many top lucrative keyword listings in Google, much
of what Reese explains will not be new to you.

If you’re already have had a front page listing on Digg and
know the SEO significance of WordPress blogs and the benefits
of using social bookmarking sites, you will be familiar with
many of the techniques and resources covered in Reese’s traffic
course.

However, even judging it from this perspective, I did gain a
lot of valuable knowledge about setting up and running your
own affiliate system, about creating your own video content and
your own software/widgets/programs – all areas that are relatively
new to me. This is where I gained the most knowledge from having
this course.

Guess, what I am saying, like any info product – Traffic Secrets
will only be as beneficial as your level of marketing. If you’re
a complete novice this is an excellent product on increasing your
traffic. If you’re a very experienced marketer, you will gain from
having this product but less so – in my opinion. Mainly, because you
will already be doing most of the things Reese advises you to do.

For me, there were two things that’s worth the price of this
product alone – if you didn’t even bother with all the training
videos and manual!

First, there are the 7 Master Blueprints listing all the steps
you have to take to master/conquer a particular area of Internet
Marketing, for example, “Adwords Attack Blueprint”. Each Blueprint
has around 10 to 15 practical steps you have to take to master
this area of your online marketing, which Reese fleshes out in
the videos.

These Blueprints are some of the best online marketing advice I
have ever seen – putting them all together in this Traffic Secrets
course was a masterstroke and well worth the price alone. Simply
brilliant.

However, even given how good this information is, the best part
of the Traffic Secrets for me had nothing to do with John Reese.
There were two bonus videos of Frank Kern that were simply
spectacular. He presents some ingenius marketing strategies
that any marketer can use… these videos, in my opinion, are
also worth the price of the product alone.

Now, Reese’s product did tell me countless ways to increase
my traffic over the long haul. However, my main beef is not
with Reese but with the whole concept of Web 2.0 traffic –
I really wonder or rather question the real benefits of this
traffic? Most of it is not targeted traffic; most of it is
just plain useless.

With one major important exception – the SEO benefits of
Web 2.0 traffic or listings. Web 2.0 is one way to quickly
get your content to the top of the search engines and you have
probably already noticed how many product videos, social bookmark
listings have jumped to the top of Google. Social media sites
in regards to SEO have become extremely important to anyone
doing business on the web.

I also know the importance of something like the very SEO
friendly WordPress blog software and I use it every chance
I get. I also know the simple power of just adding a simple
social bookmark button like the one from Addthis.com to all
your online content.

But how good is Web Traffic 2.0 in the first place?

I have been on the front page of Digg and gotten 70,000 useless
visitors to my site in one day. I have spent days analyzing
this traffic in Google Analytics. Most of it is very fleeting
and temporary.

This doesn’t mean getting all those social bookmark listings
are useless, just the opposite, for SEO reasons and especially
in Google, you will need those listings in order to rank high
for your keywords. Mainly because quite frankly, what is more
democratic than a link/vote from actual users of these social
bookmark/media sites?

But most of this media traffic is not targeted. It’s no way
near as good in quality as organic SERPs for your targeted
keywords. It doesn’t even come close to PPC from Adwords or
Yahoo! Marketing. If you’re marketing on the web, you want
quality traffic that will convert into a sale or a prospect.

Web 2.0 traffic can be useful but it usually takes a few more
steps to turn it into quality traffic, either thru SEO, or getting
subscribers onto your lists. It’s an indirect way of doing things
but this traffic is still important because anyone marketing online
today has to realize the whole web is changing with video marketing,
social bookmarketing, blogging… the growing importance of sites
like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter… the ever increasing SEO influence
of social media sites like Digg, Slashdot, Technorati… your web
marketing MUST change with the times or simply be left behind.
You must adapt to the new web or go the way of the DoDo bird.

John Reese’s Traffic Secrets 2.0, while not perfect, will still
firmly place you in the “Know” and give you your own “Master Plan”
to acquiring web traffic as we move forward.

The Internet is such an unknown commodity anything
is possible. One of the most intriguing questions
concerns the idea of a perpetual traffic machine.
Create a website and design a system of automatic
programs (both interior and exterior) that delivers
content and backlinks to a site that updates itself
automatically and keeps growing without any help
from the creator. In the process you build a flow
of traffic that never stops, even if the site is
abandoned or not touched for a couple of years or
never again.

Is such a perpetual traffic system really possible?

Before you conjure up pictures of HAL and creepy
talking computers in distant space… realize that
question may carry more weight than it would seem
at first glance. But is it like its predecessor,
the perpetual motion machine – just more an illusion
than actual fact?

For curiosity’s sake if for nothing else, the idea
of a perpetual traffic machine does require further
investigation. Such a system would have special
interest for millions of webmasters whose main task
is acquiring traffic for their sites, not to mention
the potential for monetary gain a PTM (rhymes with ATM)
would produce.

Some credence was given to the idea recently when
Tinu Abayomi-Paul, a well-known online free traffic
expert, produced with the help of Marlon Sanders an
info-product entitled “The Evergreen Traffic Machine.”

Tinu’s story is very interesting. Tinu had built up
a whole array of sites and optimized them successfully
for countless keywords in all the major search engines.
She had built up a steady flow of traffic, resulting
in thousands of visitors “a day” to her sites. This in
itself is not that extraordinary, but that’s not the
full story.

Because of a personal illness she abandoned or left
alone most of her sites for over a year or more – only
to discover the traffic systems she had put into place
didn’t just dry up, they still kept producing tons of
traffic even though the sites weren’t being updated.

The traffic was still coming. The traffic was still fresh.

Tinu basically built her perpetual traffic system
around three major areas: High Profile Article
Marketing, Exact Keyword Focus and Blogging/RSS
Feeds. Tinu’s system proves you can create a traffic
system for a year or two, but the real question is
will it still produce traffic five years from now?
Fifty years from now? How about a hundred years?

The real question: how long will such a system work
without fresh input of unique content like the viral
articles and blog posts now feeding it? This question
is even more tantalizing when you consider it is now
possible to create fresh content on your sites with
RSS feeds, blog comments and user contributed content.

What’s more intriguing is the fact that all aspects
of a website can be automated, including payment for
all renewals: domain, hosting, autoresponders… as
well as the collection of revenues such as affiliate
commissions and advertising fees.

Are we at the stage where the Internet will be filled
with these automated human-less web sites drawing
traffic/visitors and slowly building and expanding
on their own for eternity? Many cynics would argue
this is already the case with the majority of sites
on the web.

In case you like that idea and want to fully embrace
this brave new automated perpetual Internet, here are
a few tips to create your own eternal traffic machine:

1. Build lists and pre-load your AR system with follow-up
messages to keep visitors coming back to your site. You
can rotate these messages and ask your subscribers to
opt-in to different lists on related subject areas.
Always ask your readers to recommend your content to
others.

2. Use social bookmark software or links so that your
visitors can easily bookmark your content which brings
in both new links and new traffic. Simple programs like
the one offered by Addthis.com will get your visitors
building your backlinks for you, bringing in fresh
visitors who in turn will also bookmark your content.

3. Write viral articles, reports and ebooks that have
your backlinks in the resource boxes. Likewise, viral
software programs can help bring a constant flow of
traffic to your site. If your content is of a high
quality and your themes universal… new sites will
pick up your content and build your backlinks, creating
fresh traffic. The search engines will also index these
new links and your rankings will increase, bringing in
more traffic.

4. Use blogging and RSS feeds to get your content out
there. You can also use these RSS feeds to bring in
new fresh content to your site. Creating new content
will be your main obstacle to creating perpetual traffic…
you can get new content from feeds but will it be unique?
Comments in your blogs could bring in unique content but
if you’re not monitoring them, you must have solid
software in place to fight against spam.

5. Have “Tell a Friend” forms on all your content.
This will bring new traffic to your site, which can
be self-refreshing as new people discover your content.

6. Encourage user generated content such as articles,
comments, posts… you can even have a community
monitoring system where your site’s members monitor
this new content.

7. Form JV alliances with webmasters in your related
field. Do co-registration so that you help build each
other’s lists and traffic.

8. Likewise, if you have products to sell, create an
affiliate program to get your affiliates to build your
traffic for you. Affiliates are an excellent source of
permanent traffic.

9. Automate all aspects of the running and managing
of your website. Set up automatic payments for your
AR system, hosting, domain renewal, PPC payments…
thru PayPal or credit card. Likewise, receive affiliate
commissions thru PayPal or direct deposit. Many
advertising programs like Google Adsense offer
direct deposit.

10. PPC Traffic – While we have mainly looked at free
traffic systems, don’t forget creating a PTM is relatively
easy with Pay Per Click advertising if you know what you’re
doing. Target less competitive keywords to keep your costs
down, tie this traffic into a good squeeze page for feeding
your AR system with leads and have a good landing page that
converts. You can create a system that delivers perpetual
traffic and pays for itself from your affiliate commissions
and advertising fees.

In summary, the argument for the existence of the PTM
mainly relies upon the quality of your content or site.
Is it unique enough to draw in new visitors? Does your
topic have universal appeal that people never tire of?
Does it solve or offer advice on a common human problem?
Will or does it have a viral “word of mouth” element to it?

As we move to a more and more automated world, all the
automated programs and hardware are in place for the
creation of such perpetual machines.

Computers, autoresponders, content management software,
RSS feeds, viral marketing, direct deposit, automatic
payments… and the list goes on. If we haven’t already
created the perpetual traffic machine – we are getting
tangibly close to doing just that.

…
what he preaches. While not exactly pretty, one of the
most popular downloads on his sites has been a Free Perpetual
