All The Internet Marketing Tools You Need To Succeed Online
How Many Domains or Sites Should You Have?
This is a question which I occasionally get asked by
subscribers. How many domains or sites should I have?
Of course, there are many ways to answer this question.
Around 10 years ago, when I first started online,
my answer would have been one site – which is enough
for anyone. However, after all I have done and
experienced since that time – my answer would now be:
as many as you can afford!
I started with my main general site dealing with the
topic of Online Marketing and Marketing Tools, but 3 or
4 years in, I started building other closely related
sites which were highly focused on just one topic or
niche market.
Most of these are what is commonly referred to as
“Mini-sites” – consisting of only 5 or 6 pages.
Although some can have more pages… these are the
kinds of sites you set-up and forget about them, more
or less.
I usually promote them once or twice a year with
an article or a relevant press release. But these
sites run themselves and if you build them the right
way – they can earn you revenue for years to come.
Keep Your Costs Low
I try to keep my overall yearly costs for a site
under $50 – I know webmasters who build sites for
a fraction of that price, but I like having a reliable
hosting that I can trust. Try Yahoo or GoDaddy.
The greatest benefit from having numerous sites, you’re
not putting all your “resources and hopes” into just
one basket. This was really brought home to me this
year by Google’s endless Panda Updates, which are
still ongoing and relentless.
A few of my sites lost traffic, while others gained
traffic. If I only had the one site – Panda would have
been a problem, mainly because it targeted duplicate
content including articles and all those valuable
backlinks. Article marketing has been one of my most
useful ways to get rankings and traffic,
Panda put a big dent in that whole process.
Build Exact Keyword Domains
What I really noticed about the Panda Updates and Google’s
Algorithm changes this past year… my exact keyword
domain sites rose or kept their rankings in Google.
This is extremely important for the following reason:
purchasing an exact keyword domain and building a small
site around this main keyword will usually get you the top
spot in Google for that keyword. If you have the domain
“www.bluewidgets.com” – with a little bit of proper SEO
and promotion – you will get top listings for the keyword
“bluewidgets” in Google.
I also consider keyword enhancers in the domain name
such as “buy” “buy online” “cheap” “best”… these added
words will usually increase your conversion rates… you
want visitors who are ready to buy your product or at
least seriously considering buying your product.
I try to find a lucrative keyword which has at least
5,000 to 20,000 searches a month. If you can buy that
exact keyword domain and build a mini-site around it,
chances are very good at the moment, that you will get
listed in the top 5 spots in Google for that keyword,
if not the top spot.
How do you know a keyword will be or is profitable?
One very simple thing I do is simply use Google Keyword
Tool to find the number of monthly searches and related
keywords, noting the level of competition for those
keywords. Next, I simply do a search in Google for a
chosen keyword, are there at least 10 sites/companies
advertising on the search results page? If people are
advertising this keyword is probably profitable and
making them money.
I also study the top 10 sites ranking for this keyword
phrase – can I compete with them? Do any have the
exact keyword phrase in their domain? How good are
the sites… and so on.
Even with low traffic numbers, you can still make a
profit because this is free targeted traffic from Google.
I have long learned that you should never underestimate
the very targeted visitors you get from Google. People
trust Google and once you get those top rankings,
your marketing job is already 90% done for you.
Use Social Bookmarks
Don’t forget to use the “social bookmark” buttons such
as ShareThis or AddThis… on all your content. Google
is paying much more attention to these social numbers,
including of course, its own Google+ numbers.
Now, many of these sites don’t get a lot of traffic,
they aren’t really designed to get a lot of traffic…
these are niche sites created to get free targeted
keyword traffic from the search engines, especially
Google. But if you’re targeting the right visitors, you
don’t need much traffic to make these sites profitable.
If you want to find out more about building mini-sites,
I would recommend this FREE resource by Michael Rasmussen.
He’s a real expert on this topic – click below to find
out more:
…
SiteBuildIt is having their annual “Buy One – Get One Free”
and the purchase link is now live. NO! I would not recommend
you use SBI for building “mini-sites” – it is way too expensive
for that purpose.
But if you’re new to this online stuff – SBI is great for
your first main site because it will take you step-by-step
through building your online site.

5 Simple Ways To Automate Your Online Business Or Marketing
Time is precious. We have so little time to get all the things done
which we want to do in our hectic lives. Nothing is more true than
when it comes to running your own online business or site. I have been
constantly looking for ways to automate my online sites and marketing
for over 10 years.
In that timeframe I have found some simple tools or systems which
automate my workload in order to take some of the pressure off. These
automated marketing tools are essential if you want to do less work
and enjoy life more. So here are my top tools or programs to automate
your online business or marketing:
1. Autoresponder – Without a doubt, this is one automation tool which
you simply can’t do without. You must have an autoresponder to do all
your follow-up emails and marketing. An autoresponder is simply what the
name suggests, it will automatically respond to all communications from
your site or business. These communications are crucial to your bottom
line and for the success of your business. An autoresponder is also essential
for building your list of contacts. I use list building with all my sites
and have follow-up emails loaded into these autoresponders to stay in contact
with my subscribers. Currently I use aWeber but also have used other
autoresponders in the past such as GetResponse… those are the two main
ones which I would recommend you use. Remember, you can also buy autoresponder
software and set it up on your site or server, but I like to leave this vital
chore to professional third party sites like aWeber or GetResponse. These
companies have years of experience sending emails and they also have robust
software and tech staff to handle all and any situations which may arise.
2. Paypal – This is the popular online payment system which is owned by eBay.
Paypal will automatically let you collect and pay all your cash transactions.
It will accept payments from your business partners or affiliates and automatically
deposit these funds into your account. Plus, you can make automatic payments to
all the services and programs which you use to run your online business. I can’t
believe how much I rely upon Paypal to handle all my payments, which are done
each month. All my hosting, advertising and marketing programs are all set up
through PayPal which automatically pays these each month. It also supplies
excellent records so that you can easily see where your money is coming from
and where you’re spending it. Great for when tax time comes around.
3. Java Scripts – These are handy little scripts which update your web content
automatically so that you don’t have to go into your hosting account and manually
update your pages. These can be site wide updates like CSS Style Sheets where you
can easily change or update all the pages of your site at once. Another example
would be an XML sitemap which can automatically update as you add webpages. For me,
I like using simple scripts which update the time and date on my sites… this makes
your site look current and timely. I also use a simple script to automatically
update the Copyright Notice each year, without me having to go in and update these
manually ON EACH PAGE. Since I am into affiliate marketing, many merchants will
supply product feeds and banners which automatically update without me having to
change them myself.
4. Content Delivery – If you’re running an online business or site, you need a
way which will automatically distribute your content to anyone who wants it.
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a quick and automatic way to get your content
on the web. You should be using blogs and RSS feeds to distribute your content.
Twitter is one popular offshoot of this type and you should be using it to quickly
get your messages out. For me, article marketing is still vital to my overall
success, so I use major online article directories like Ezinearticles and GoArticles.
With some of these directories (with a paid membership) you can program your
articles so that they can be timed for release. I also like using SubmitYourArticle
which automatically submits all my articles for me when I want them published.
This automates my article marketing and can be programed weeks, even months in
advance and everything flows like clockwork.
5. Google Analytics – While the stats (in my opinion) are not entirely accurate,
Google Analytics is a priceless program if you want to automate and track all your
online endeavours. You simply place a simple code on your webpages, and Google
will automatically track all the vital data you need to see how well your site or
marketing is performing. It also offers excellent ways in which you can adjust
your content or marketing to increase your conversions. While it may take some
time to setup some of these tests or metrics… once you have everything in place,
it will automatically track and record all your site’s stats. Knowing what your
visitors and customers do on your site is essential to your marketing. Such things
as Bounce Rate, Time Spent on site, Number of Pageviews, Traffic Sources… can all
be collected automatically and presented to you.
While there are other ways to automate your site and marketing, these are the
major ones which you should have in place if you want to save yourself some time
and a few headaches. Put all of these in place and you will have plenty of time
to devote for developing marketing strategies and content. And/or enjoying your
life, which ever comes first for you?

First Day of the Rest Of Your Life
My first day was around 8 or 9 years ago, when I started
my first website. And I haven’t looked back since, but getting
was the hardest part.
Just doing it.
I was full of doubts and I was very, very skeptic not only
about starting a site but also about the net, which was more
of a novelty back then. Today, I am just glad I made that first
start and never gave up.
Since that time I have created many sites and helped many
get started online, including family members. My brother now
several sites and is also starting to see those sales come in…
http://www.bluray-dvd-players.com
He is much more computer tech savvy than me and even has a
couple of years of training in the “IT” field. Both of us are
now helping our sister build her first site.
I won’t lie to you… starting a site and getting all the
linking and SEO right is a bit tricky. So too is picking a
niche market that’s lucrative but not too competitive is probably
the hardest part.
Been there, done that.
Actually, when all is said and done, the hardest part is just
getting started. Doing some marketing research, picking your
keywords, buying that domain and then creating your site and
webpages.
The key is to start small… plan on building a 4 or 5 page
site at first and then keep growing as you find out more about
your chosen subject.
I have said this a hundred times… all this web stuff is not
rocket science. It’s just a matter of finding a topic or subject
you really enjoy and creating a site about it.
It does help to have a flare for writing but now that videos
are taking over, even that is less important. You can just
talk and record videos on your subject.
But making that first start is always the hardest part. Once
you get over that hurdle, you will probably be like me, thanking
your lucky stars every day that you got involved with web marketing.
You won’t be alone, there are hundreds of thousands, perhaps
even millions who have done the same thing.
Sometimes it’s helpful to find out how some of these people
got started and where they ended up. Ken Evoy of SiteBuildIt
(one of my highest recommendation for newcomers) has created
a page giving examples of ordinary people who have started
web sites and web businesses.
Telling what they were doing before and after they started
their web sites. It makes for very compelling viewing, especially
if you’re seriously thinking about venturing down the same
road.
Anyway give it a look if you’re interested in starting the

BWMagic’s Internet Marketing News
What To Do When Google Messes Up The Title Of Your Site
In the past, I have always found it helpful to read about
other people’s problems with Google and how they solved them.
Maybe this won’t happen to you but in case it does, reading
about my experiences and mistakes might help you avoid them.
Yesterday morning, while nervously waiting for Google Caffeine
to drip into place, I got a rude awakening of just how abrupt some
of Google’s constant changes can bring to an online marketer.
Imagine this scenario: You have a site in Google’s index for over
four years which is ranked on the first page for some very competitive
keywords. Suddenly, one morning you check your rankings and they
have gone up a few notches but…
Google has changed the “Title” of your site in their index.
Google is no longer pulling the title from your “Title Tag” – the
name and words you want in the title and which has been in the Google
index for over 4 years. Instead Google has spidered your site’s main
page and pulled a generic title from your content.
Ouch!
Why does this matter? What’s the big deal you’re asking?
It’s a big deal mainly because I start my marketing funnel right
in the Google Serps, this is my first contact with potential
clients. You must pull in the right visitors to your site, visitors
who are of the right mind-set to buy a product or service.
Over the years, I have learned getting top rankings in Google for
lucrative keywords is only the first step in your marketing process.
Next, you have to have the right title and description in Google in
order to bring or attract the right visitors to your site.
I will explain further…
The site in question is a comparison shopping type site, where for
years the title said something like: Comparison of Product A Features/Prices
Then Google changes the Title to: What is Product A?
My site goes from being a comparison shopping site to an educational
site in the minds of those reading Google Serps. Bad news… very
bad news.
With this new title my site is not only attracting the wrong kind of
visitor, but it goes from competing with small like-minded comparison sites
to competing with big sites like Wikipedia.
That’s probably a bit of an exaggeration but not really. It totally
messes up my marketing funnels for that site. Actually it cuts the
marketing down to just about nil since your conversion rates will
go down if you’re not attracting buyers.
Now, while it is very easy to blame Google for this change, I have
long learned - 9 times out of 10 - it is probably the webmaster or
marketer’s own doings which has caused the problem.
I have also learned when anything goes wrong, you have to first do,
a very detailed analysis of any changes you have made to any of your pages.
And I did make some changes to my index page for this site in question…
I added a link to an education site which is probably a big no-no in
Google’s mind. If you have a shopping comparison site… you should
not be pointing to an .edu site. This probably confused the robot in
some matter or triggered the nature of my site in the eyes of Google.
While checking this matter out further, I discovered that Google doesn’t have
to use your “Title Tag” at all. It can list your site anyway it sees
fit. Or rather it doesn’t have to accept your title if it believes
the page doesn’t relate to your title. It can comb the page and
decide a new Title for it… usually words appearing somewhere on
your page. Big Brother knows best and you have to play by his rules.
Here’s an interesting page from Google on this:
Google on Titles
I knew from the beginning that my title for that page was over the 65-70
characters allowed in Google, but Google would always list it and put
in the “…” at the end. Yahoo allows up to 120 characters and
that’s the reason I had the longer title in the first place.
Now, in the past with other web sites, changing the title of your
page in Google’s Index is no big deal. Usually after a few days, once
Google has spidered your page again, the new title appears in that
all important index. I am chalking up the lost sales as a bad
mistake on my part.
I have made changes to the site in question and I wait anxiously
for Google to change the title back to the comparison shopping
angle which is truly what this site is all about. It does have
an educational element to it but that’s because I want any customers
to be fully informed about the products in question.
For me as an online marketer that first impression in Google’s Index
is crucial to my whole marketing process. And if you’re into selling
anything online or if you just want to attract the right targeted
visitors to your site – having the proper title and description are
essential to the success of your site.
You MUST give a lot of time and consideration to your title tag
and description. It is extremely important for attracting the right
type of visitor to your site. Get this wrong and even a #1 spot
in Google can be useless!
Here’s a handy little tool and site which will help you create your
titles and descriptions for search engines, mainly Google.
Title Optimizer
Use this tool to create your titles…
Then learn from my mistake and make sure your content and links
on your page is truly relevant to your title. Repeat your title
on the page in the “H1″ headline is a good starting point, just keep
all content on topic so that Google’s robots and Algorithm doesn’t get
confused and mislabel your site.

BWMagic’s Internet Marketing News
Spiders, Breadcrumbs & Google – Why All Three Are Important To Your Site’s Success
Do you see what I see!
It could just be me, but one of the least talked about aspects of Internet
marketing has to do with the pesky little spider. Actually these are the
countless spiders/robots that spider the web continuously and report back
all content and links to the search engines.
It is surprising that this lowly spider is not better known or understood
by webmasters since they play a major role in the success of your website
- at least where the search engines are concerned. How these spiders see
your site and what they report back is crucial to getting your pages and
content listed in the search engines.
What you see is not what you get.
One common mistake many webmasters make (especially those just beginning)
is that they take if for granted all the information and content on your site
can be seen by the spiders/search engines. You can have a spectacular looking
site with all the bells and whistles – full of images, java scripts, flash
banners, widgets… a visitor to your site will come away amazed at the content
and information.
But a spider comes along and spiders the same spectacular page and finds
nothing – no content whatsoever – nothing. That spider then reports this
back to the search engine and your page or content is not indexed since
nothing of importance was found.
This can mean disaster, even for the most spectacularly designed pages.
No content, no listing.
Of course, the whole issue or problem is the simple fact that spiders can’t
read images, banners, java scripts, widgets… and so on. What they see
when they visit your webpage MAY be entirely different from what you or
your visitors see. If they can’t see or read your content it doesn’t exist
for the search engines.
For this reason, it is always a good practice to run your pages through
software programs which tell you exactly what the spider sees. Get your
pages read or displayed through the eyes of these spiders.
One good site is Search Engine Spider Imitator
Just type in your page URL and you will see what the spider sees. If any
of your main information or keyword phrases are missing – make sure you
place them as “text” on your page, not text in an image or banner.
One common mistake, which I see all the time, a site has it’s main keyword
phrase in the domain name but then creates an eye-catching logo with the
site’s name displaying the keyword phrase – but the spider cannot read this
logo and that much needed keyword SEO is lost. Especially if this logo is
displayed on every page of your site, which in most cases, it will be.
It is much better to have this domain name/keyword displayed as text on all
your pages. In this manner, the search engines know exactly what your pages
are about; having it read as “site logo” just doesn’t cut it.
However, many webmasters are smart enough to put your keyword phrase in
the “alt” tags connected with this logo or image – which the spider and
the search engines can read. For SEO reason it is good to place your targeted
keyword in the “alt” tag, but like everything, don’t over do it or you will
be accused of keyword spamming.
Another whole issue is the matter of site/link hierarchy. Explained simply,
your domain index is level one, links flowing off this main homepage are
usually considered level two, links flowing off these level two pages are
considered level 3 and so on… most web experts suggest you keep all your
content within these three levels. Why? Mainly because it is easier for the
spider to index them. If you go down too deep, some spiders may not spider/index
your deeply linked pages.
Another reason, you want your site and pages to be easily accessed by your
visitor. A simple page structure or layout is best suited for this purpose.
Make sure all your content can be easily found, especially by spiders.
So in conclusion, make sure spiders can read all your content, use the link here
and check your pages. If you are unpleasantly surprised or disappointed by
what these spiders are seeing, then simply fix the problem by making your
important content placed in “text” on your pages. Keep feeding those spiders,
and they won’t come back and bite you in the… well, you get picture.

Get Your Breadcrumbs in Google for More Links in Results
This is the title of a really good informative piece on Google and Breadcrumbs
in WebProNews by Chris Crum, no pun intended. Basically, breadcrumbs are same
as the linking structure or levels we talked about above – “the hierarchical display
commonly used in site navigation. For example: Home Page>Product Page>Product A Page.”
Google is starting to list these breadcrumbs/links in its results which means
more of your site’s links will be displayed on that first page. Instead of one
link, you can have three or more links on that first page in Google. If you’re
into search engine marketing like I am, you will know this is a major, major deal.
Getting more links in Google for your site simply means more targeted traffic
and more targeted traffic means more sales and opt-ins.
According to Matt Cutts it’s very early days for “Breadcrumbs” but it is
something you should consider when designing your site as Google will probably
be using some form of them in the future.

The Only 3 Steps You Need To Make Tons Of Sales Online In 2010
This is a free PDF article by Marlon Sanders who is one
of my favorite Internet Marketers. Mainly because he produces
“no non-sense” “point & click” marketing products which
are easy to use and apply. He cuts out all the “bull” and
gives you what you need to market online.
I have always recommended Sanders and his products to
anyone who’s interested in finding out “how” all this
online marketing works. Heck, he was marketing on the web
before there even was a “web” as we know it today.

Increase Site Quality & Rankings With Free Xenu Link Sleuth
Will Page Quality Replace PageRank or Other Ranking Factors?
Many SEO experts and professional webmasters believe “Site Quality”
will play an even greater role in how Google ranks web pages. One
of the reasons for this belief is all the “noise” coming from Google
about Site Speed, Broken Links, Proper Coding and so on.
Actually, you don’t need to be an SEO expert to figure out that
the quality of your site and web pages are extremely important to
how well they are ranked. Search engines like Google, are only offering
up a product like any other company – in this case their product is
their SERPs or listings/links given to a search query.
These listings or links have to go to quality pages which the surfer
will use and find beneficial. If Google sends a searcher to a page
that has broken links – either internal and/or external – more than likely
that visitor will come away with a poor experience. This reflects badly
on everyone including the search engines.
Lately, Google has been making a lot of changes to its search engine,
especially with Google Caffeine which is a major overhaul of its whole
ranking system. Of course, when it comes to how Google actually ranks
pages it is very difficult to figure out the exact rules, but Page Quality
is definitely in there.
This can be measured in so many ways – Time spent on site, bounce rate,
proper coding, meta tags, content quality, keyword density… and of course
- broken links.
Broken links on any web page will lower the visitor’s experience and
produce frustration. It will bring down the quality of your web page.
Simple Solution —– Fix All Broken Links
Now if you have a small site (10-50 pages) this is very easy to do
and fix. Yesterday, using the Xenu tool mentioned here, I fixed some
broken links on 3 or 4 of my smaller sites.
However, if you have a site with 1000’s of pages this is not so
easily done. That’s where handy software can make your job easier
and save you a lot of time. If you have a large or older time it
will take more time to fix all the links.
Xenu Link Sleuth is a Free Powerful software application which you
can download and then check all your sites for broken links.
This is the best “broken-link-checker” I have found. It’s really
easy to use and it gives you a full report of your broken links.
You can download it here:
