Google Ranking Factors According To 132 SEO Experts

Just about every year or so, SEOmoz.com comes out with a
list of Google ranking factors (Google calls these things
signals) compiled by a list of SEO experts. This year they
used 132 SEO experts examining data from over 10,000 Google
search results.
I always find this an interesting read and usually come away
with a feeling of how these SEO experts believe Google ranks
pages and sites. If you’re trying to get those top Google rankings,
you should look closely at their findings here:
http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors
According to these experts here’s a brief overall summary of
these ranking factors or signals.
2011 Ranking Factors:
Page Level Link Metrics – 21.45%
Domain Level Link Authority Features – 21.13%
Page Level Keyword Usage – 14.93%
Domain Level Keyword Usage – 10.73%
Page Level Social Metrics – 7.22%
Domain Level Brand Metrics – 6.78%
Page Level Keyword Agnostic Features – 6.74%
Page Level Traffic/Query Data – 6.26
Domain Level Keyword Agnostic Features – 4.92
Now Compare these to the…
2009 Ranking Factors:
Trust/Authority of The Host Domain – 23.87%
Link Popularity of The Specific Page – 22.33%
Anchor Text of External Links to the Page – 20.26%
On-Page Keyword Usage – 15.04%
Registration + Hosting Data – 6.91%
Traffc + CTR Data – 6.29%
Social Graph Metrics – 5.30%
Could be just me, but I kinda believe SEOmoz in the
latest rankings is guilty of stating these factors in
a more complicated manner than they should be or how
Seomoz has explained these in the past. For heaven’s sake,
“Agnostic Features”??? Do they mean independent features?
Some companies who charge for SEO services, have a way of
making all this SEO sound complex and complicated. Just wish
they would “dumb it down” instead of “complicating it up”.
For me, achieving and maintaining top rankings in Google has
always come down to producing a steady flow of content (articles,
blog posts, press releases, videos…) with my targeted keywords
in the anchor text of the links pointing back to my ranked pages
in Google.
Quite frankly, without quality backlinks, I don’t see someone
getting to those top spots in Google for extremely competitive
keywords. Now, if you have the exact .com domain phrase, more
than likely you will rank high for that keyword, if it is not
too competitive.
I try to get “do follow” links, but “no follow” links are also
very good, especially if they come from authority sites. Many of
the above experts also believe “no follow” links do pass along
some PR.
Now these latest 2011 ranking factors seem to be pointing to more
“on-page” factors… page and domain linking structure, keyword
structure, site quality, right optimization, social media usage
and so on.
In other words, SEOmoz and their SEO experts are saying the way
you have your site and pages designed has become more important
to how Google ranks your content. Social media indicators are much
stronger and links are still important but rather than raw quantity,
try to diversify your links because those .edu and .gov are more
important than ever. These experts also think Facebook nods are
better than Twitter.
Keywords are Still King
You should pay special attention to your keyword or keywords when
creating your webpage. Keep it at the beginning of your title, place
it in your Meta Tags, place it in the H1 tags, first 100 words or
even the first word in your content, last 100 words, place it in
bold or italics, in internal anchor text links to this page, alt
image attributes, place it in the URL…
After Google’s Panda Update there seems to be a general shift
away from “off-page” factors to “on-page” factors. More emphasis
is being placed on the quality of your site and the layout of your
content. On-page and social media metrics have moved up in importance.
Backlinks have moved down…
Unique Content is More Important
Having unique content has always been important, but I believe it
has taken a jump up – after Panda. These experts also agree unique
content is important. In the survey, the importance of having unique
content across your whole site came in at 89.4% and with freshness of
content at 74.9%. Other factors include bounce rate, click thru data,
number of error pages, age of site, page speed load times, other sites
on IP address, number of hyphens and characters in domain name, length
of time before domain expires… one final note, may have missed it,
but I didn’t see the “country” or “where” your IP address is located
makes a difference in how you rank in Google.
At least that’s my reading of these latest factors from SEOmoz and of
course, I always like to get other people’s take on these rankings.
WebProNews has a very good summary/opinions on these Google Ranking
factors from SEOmoz here:

3 New Upcoming SEO Wildcards

Last week I told you about the Chrome Browser and the new
Google +1 Button, which I really believe will become
a big factor in how much traffic you get from Google.
Especially since these +1 buttons will be displayed in Google
search results for those who are logged into a Google account.
Just imagine coming across two links while using Google search:
one with a couple of +1 clicks and another link with 1000’s of
+1 clicks or recommendations.
Which link would you click?.
Now, there’s another SEO wildcard to worry about, recently Google
has come out and said they will be supporting “authorship markup”
or the “author” attribute tag in their search engine. For online
writers who have a well established body of work or reputation…
the fallout from this new ranking signal or factor could be even
more significant than the +1 button.
While this is quite a recent development and the implications for
how this factor will play out are unknown. Google says it is a way
to connect authors with their content on the web.
As posted by Othar Hansson, a software engineer at Google:
“The markup uses existing standards such as HTML5 (rel=”author”) and
XFN (rel=”me”) to enable search engines and other web services to
identify works by the same author across the web.”
Could this mean that Google will place an “authority” value on web
writers, the same as they now do for “authority” sites? Actually,
Google may have been doing this for some time, but now they are
making it formal. If so, this could be a real game-changer, especially
if Google ranks content by a certain well established quality author
higher in their index than a lesser known author – regardless of where
his or her content is displayed.
I can envision a whole legion of webmasters scrambling to place an
“author page” on their sites, listing out all their background bio info,
all their links to the different social networking sites such as Linkedin,
Twitter, Facebook… and you can even link to your other sites and articles.
I have already done this on my site and listed down all my official sites,
blogs and profiles in the different networking/social media sites.
By linking out to all these profiles and using the (rel=”me”) in the
links, tells Google all these pages are by me or the same author.
This could have a huge impact on content scraping and the downright
theft of your content. If Google can tag your “verified” content as
yours and rank it accordingly, that would be a good thing. However,
this is not an ideal world and now authors have to really worry about
unscrupulous folks stealing not only their content, but their names
as well. Ouch, this could be a massive headache for web authors who
have established a strong presence on the web. Lets just pray real
hard that Google gets this one right.
I have already had to contact one major article directory where someone
was using my name. Thankfully, this was a spammer from Asia and the
directory could easily see through this situation. I also have a rather
unique name which should help… and if you start to seriously do a lot
of quality writing on the web, I would suggest you use a very unique
“pen-name”, if everyone has been calling you John Smith for all these years.
Link this content with your name or pen-name to an author’s page on the same
domain by using the (rel=”author”) attribute tag – something like:
<* a href="http://yoursite.com" rel="author">Read more about Pen Name<*/a>
Now if you’re placing your written content on a site where you don’t
have an author’s page, you can link this content back to your author’s page
on your own site or domain – in this case you would use something like:
<* a href="http://yoursite.com/Pen Name" rel="me">Read more about Pen Name<*/a>
By using these links and tags in your resource box links, you’re pointing
out that this content belongs to you and can be verified as yours, no matter
where it is displayed on the web.
Of course, I call this an SEO Wildcard, because we don’t know to what extent
Google will use this “author” tag in their ranking algorithm – could play big
part, or a very small part. But from past experiences, regardless of how it ranks,
optimizing your content for Google and the other search engines have always
helped my rankings… I am sure this will be no different.

Google +1 Button – New Ranking Factor You Can’t Ignore

As you probably know, I try to keep as informed as I possibly
can about anything dealing with Google and my Google rankings.
Recently, Google introduced its “+1 Button” and you can already
see it popping up on many sites.
Social bookmarking has always been important but I believe
with this new +1 button, it will become an even greater factor
for ranking in Google. The number of +1 clicks your page or
content receives, will affect your rankings in Google.
Google has already stated this button will be a new ranking signal
and by signal they mean factor. A lot of people clicking that button
on your content will signal to Google that your content is relevant
and/or important.
Right now, consistently building quality backlinks to your content,
will just about always get you on the first page of Google. But with
link buying, comment spam, seo manipulation… that supposedly
democratic voting factor has become corrupt. Will Google’s own
“in-house” button become more manageable in terms of abuse? Will
it replace backlinks as the most important factor?
Since I feel this +1 Button is going to be important for ranking
high in Google – I have written an article about it which you
can find here:
http://www.bizwaremagic.com/affiliate_marketing_guide/Google_+1_Button.htm
The information is too long to put in this email. But you will
find everything you need to start placing this button on all your
content. I have already started adding the button to my main pages…
ignore this button at your own risk!

Does Your Site Need An SEO Checkup?

Since Google launched its Panda Update earlier this
year and all the follow-up changes after it, many people
believe that your site’s SEO has become more important.
That your “on-page factors” must be right or as best
as they can possibly be.
This all has to do with the quality of your site and your
webpages. It seems like Google is more forcefully judging
that quality and your site now has to pass a few more hurdles
or it will be lowered in the rankings.
Regardless of Google, having all your SEO factors done
“right and proper” won’t hurt your site. The faster your
page or site loads helps everyone. Making your site
easier to find by the search engines and your visitors
helps everyone. Having your site or page fully optimized
also helps everyone.
Besides, knowing everything you can possibly know
about your site will also help you, especially when
it comes to SEO.
Wouldn’t it be good to know these things about
your site…
- Number of Backlinks?
- Keyword Density?
- Right Meta Tags?
- Do You Have A Sitemap?
- Are Your Images Optimized?
- Is Your HTML Compressed?
- Do You Have H1 Heading Tags?
- Is Your Site Protected From Hackers?
… and many more factors or issues which
could determine the quality of your site
in the eyes of the search engines, especially
Google.
While not perfect, here’s a nice free site
where you can quickly do an SEO Checkup.
They will not only show you what’s wrong, but
give you concrete ways to fix the problems.
Click Here to do the SEO Checkup:
www.seositecheckup.com
I also find it helpful to check out my main
competition in close keyword battles, when your
number of backlinks are just about even, sometimes
just improving these small SEO issues can raise
your site above your competition.

Google’s Panda Update and SEO

Whenever Google does a major update to their extremely
complex algorithm, the mathematical formula which runs
their search engines and rankings, we have winners and
losers.
Most often it is the losers you hear about… crying
foul that the Big G is treating them unfairly with
the latest changes. Panda, which also has been dubbed
Farmer Update by many, since it supposedly deals with
“content farms” and “low quality” sites – has created
a lot of fallout.
But does new changes affect how you do you SEO?
Well, yes and no. Producing great original unique
content should still the main goal of any website,
and this has not changed.
What has changed is that webmasters must take
some steps to insure their content is not “judged”
or “seen” as a content farm or of low quality.
In other words, you can have great content but
if it is splattered with ads and banners… this
could affect your SEO and rankings, at least within
Google.
In the same light, if your great content is poorly
presented with hard to read text… poor navigation
and loads very slowly, your great content can be
penalized by Google. You must give the searcher
coming from Google a good visitor experience or they
can lower your rankings.
Google has been very open to what they expect on your
site… but this hasn’t stopped the losers of this
recent update from complaining. In some cases, their
arguments are justified, they have been wronged, but
in many situations the lowering of rankings worked
properly – not exactly what some webmasters want
to hear.
Google now be judging your whole site, rather than
each webpage separately. This is very important because
a few low quality pages on your site, could lower your
overall site’s rankings… ouch!
You could have 90% excellent content but have 10% that’s
downright crappy – so it’s time to clean up your site
and present to visitors ONLY great content.
Now, I have written 10 extra points on the new update
which you should consider following. A lot of these
are standard SEO tactics which you should be using
anyway. Others are slanted to reflect this new
Panda Update.

Increase Your Rankings With This Free SEO Analyzer Tool
If you have a website, you will probably already know how important
it is to use the right SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques
if you want to get those higher rankings. Now, getting tons of
one-way quality keyworded backlinks will be the most important factor,
but getting all your SEO ducks in a roll really does help.
Over the years I have tested hundreds of SEO tools… some good,
some bad. But I really like the one listed below, it not only does
a helpful analysis of your site or page, but it also presents some
helpful videos by Google’s spokesperson Matt Cutts on how to improve
your site/page to increase your CTR (click through rate).
Besides getting higher rankings, having the right title and description
for your site will make a difference in how many visitors you get.
One trick that has worked for me – “place your main benefit in your
title and description” – in other words give the surfer a good solid
reason why they should NOT hit the back button.
Giving and telling your visitor exactly how they can benefit from
visiting your site will help you get that click. Truth be told, the
traffic battle is often won or lost in the SERPs or search engine
results pages… a good title and description can grab a visitor’s
attention and make them click through to your site. Sometimes it
doesn’t matter if you’re in the top spot, just as long as you can
capture that click with a good title or description.
Make sure you get this right or do some tweaking to find out what
works the best. However, one word of caution, if you’re into marketing
you will want to find the title or description which converts into
a sale. I approach this from different angles and what has worked
for me is using either “deals/coupons/discounts” or
“comparison/compare/products” for getting higher conversion
rates.
In close ranking battles, having the right keyword density will make
a slight difference, so try to have your page or site reflect the right
keywords. Again, targeting the right keywords which convert into a sale
will improve your bottom line. Obviously, targeting words related to
“discounts, best deals, coupons, gifts, lowest price” will help increase
sales. I have also found targeting brand names can increase your sales
especially with long-tail phrases.
I have also found it helpful to have your main keywords in different parts
of your page or site. Try including them in the meta tag description,
in the H1, in the alt image attributes and place some in bold print and
italics. Don’t go overboard, always write your content for your visitors
and not for the search engines, but keep your keywords in mind when
creating your pages.
Like I said, getting all your SEO ducks in a roll will help improve
your rankings, especially in those close keyword battles. Beating your
competitor could just be a matter of tweaking or optimizing your site
or page.
Anyway, if you want to increase your site’s SEO, test out your url in
the handy free SEO Analyzer tool here:

Getting Your Site’s SEO Right

Getting Your Site’s SEO Right
Titus Hoskins Copyright 2010.
While probably every webmaster or online marketer knows in order
to get top rankings in the search engines you have to have quality
one-way backlinks from other high ranked keyword-related sites.
This will more than likely be the main determining ranking factor
for most search engines, especially the all important Google.
You simply need good quality one-way links and plenty of them to rank high.
However, there are many more SEO factors which come into play, especially
if you’re in a very competitive niche and targeting highly cherished lucrative
keyword phrases which bring in the big bucks. Then in these competitive
situations, you must get all your SEO ducks lined up proper, if you want to
be a player.
Some of these SEO factors may be minor but in very tight keyword races, it
could possibly mean you get ranked above your competitor. Believe me, for
some very lucrative keywords, just moving up a few notches can make a
significant difference in your traffic and sales. The number one spot is
what you’re aiming for, but even landing or moving up to the top five
can make a big difference.
But you probably already know the significance of getting top rankings for
your site and marketing, it can simply make or break your online endeavors.
So here are some SEO on-page or on-site factors which you should have in
place if you truly want to compete in the ranking wars.
Search Engine Optimization
1. Place your main keyword phrase in your Domain Name and over time you will
see higher rankings for that phrase and keywords related to it. With Google
going to Instant Search, I believe you will see these keyworded domains playing
a much greater role in what is listed first. You still have to get those quality
back-links but having a good keyworded domain will be half your battle.
2. Place your keyword phrase in the URL for your webpage. Place it in the title,
description and in the HI tags on your page. Also place this keyword phrase and
variations of it throughout your page, including at the very bottom. As for
keyword density, try to keep it under 6%, this is the limit that Ezinearticles
puts on their contributed content, go above this percentage and they won’t take
it. I usually aim for around 2% to 4% but don’t get too hung-up on this issue,
just write helpful easy to read content for your visitors.
3. Place related keyworded interior links on your page. That is, keep all your
content and links keyword-related to one another. This makes it easy for the
search engines to index your pages and content. I like building keyword-related
traffic hubs or sections on my sites, for example I could have a whole sub-directory
just on all the “affiliate marketing” info pages on my site. These would be all
linked together and back to the homepage.
4. Make sure you have an XML Sitemap which the search engines can use to quickly
index your new pages. I also like adding an HTML sitemap which goes into more
detail and lists all the pages and their content. This is not only for the search
engines but to help your visitors more easily navigate your site; never leave
a visitor stranded.
5. Make sure all your pages load quickly. Reduce down any large images which
you have and break content/articles up into different pages to reduce load times.
6. Make sure your site handles 404 mistakes and your visitors are directed to
your sitemap or another page on your site. If you don’t know how to correct
this problem just do a Google search for “how to set up a custom 404 file
not found page”.
7. Don’t have duplicate content on your site. Do a proper 301 redirect for
the www and non-www versions of your site, as this may fool some of the search
engines into believing you have two versions of your site, one with www and one
without the www in the URL. For Apache servers I simply place this bit of code
in the .htaccess file on my server.
Code example from non www to www:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule .? http://www.example.com%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
8. Link out to other high quality keyword related sites. I don’t believe
webmasters use this very much, but linking out to high quality sites have
helped my rankings. Search engines, especially Google, want to see you’re
connected to quality content and besides, pleasing your visitor is what
it’s really all about.
9. Keep all your interior site navigation as simple as possible. Make it
extremely easy for your visitors to find their way around your site. I usually
don’t have any pages more than three clicks away from my homepage. All main
categories or sub-categories of my site are not only listed on my home/index
page but also on every page of my site. Again, never leave your visitors or
the search engines stranded.
10. Don’t know if this is a ranking factor or not, but I like placing my YouTube
videos on my content pages, sure you will lose some visitors to YouTube but it
also connects your content with this very popular site which is owned by Google.
We all know Google says it doesn’t promote its own interests, but what publicly
traded company doesn’t? In that same light, I like using many Google products
such as Google Analytics, Google URL Shorter, Google Profiles… and the list
goes on. Completely inter-connecting all your pages and content with the countless
Google programs will insure your content won’t be missed.
There are probably many more on-page factors but these are the major ones which
I can think of at the moment. If you want to check the SEO quality of your site
or page, here is a handy site which will check some common SEO factors:
and for checking out your keyword density try this one:

Advanced SEO Tactics – How To Combat “Keyword Site Stuffing”
By A Major Competitor
What to do when you competitor builds countless
keyworded sites to rank high for the niche market
keywords you’re marketing in…
I am doing or I am trying to do a whole series of marketing
“How-Tos” related to being a full-time online search
engine marketer. The first one in this series deals with
“keyword stuffing” mainly in Google and what to do when one
of your major competitors builds countless sites to get ALL
of those vital top 10 spots.
I am currently dealing with this issue in several lucrative
niche markets which I am in and have been in for over 6 or 7
years. Probably more. I have always ranked high for whatever
keyword phrases I target with my marketing; however, a company
with unlimited resources can start “site stuffing” Google
for those same keywords and simply PUSH you off the
first page.
That’s not nice!
In essence, you’re competing with one company but that company
has two, five or even a hundred sites or more, keyworded for
your phrases which rank high simply by the number of related
sites and links. This is a major problem for any marketer and
it will only get worse because the search engines are helpless
to stop it.
We are talking about legitimate sites with unique content which
simply by their numbers alone can get the top spots for the
lucrative search engine keywords in your niche market.
What can you do to compete…. well, all is not hopeless.
There are some marketing tactics you try and use to get
large amounts of targeted traffic from Google and the other
search engines.

How Much Do You Know About SEO? Some SEO Basics
One of my biggest problems in trying to help other webmasters or marketers
- I naturely and wrongly assume they know all about SEO. I forget these
webmasters have not spent the last 10 years battling it out with other
online webmasters and marketers for some very popular and lucrative keywords,
in the process, homing their SEO skills with other like-minded individuals.
I forget that many beginning webmasters may not be familiar with all the
SEO jargon and SEO techniques which I mention in my small online marketing
emails or newsletters. Now, I don’t get much direct feedback on this but
in a lot of questions I get from webmasters, I can tell they are missing
or misunderstanding some basic SEO tactics.
There’s nothing wrong with that, if I were to take up a new hobby or explore
a new subject, I am sure I would be just as clueless. For instance, I think
I have played around one or two rounds of golf in my life… someone asked
if we should play Ball Four Golf and I didn’t know what the heck they were
talking about, nor did I realize it shouldn’t be confused with Ball Fore
which nearly took my head off!
So every sport, hobby or subject comes with a lot of terms/phrases which are
unique to that subject. SEO is the same way so maybe a little background or
warm-up is needed in regards to understanding the basics of SEO.
First, you must understand that SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization…
which means you optimize your website and content so that it ranks high in
the major search engines such as Google and Bing/Yahoo. This optimization
can take the form of following a strict formula or layout of your website
content with the proper meta tags, keyword density, linking structures and
so on. It can also mean off-site optimization with link building, right
anchor text, keyword positioning and so on.
SEO has become a major industry simply because getting top rankings for
lucrative keywords means big bucks for companies or individuals. We are
talking about billions, if not trillions of dollars, exchanging hands with
the sale of products, services and business transactions. Get a top ranking
for your chosen keyword phrase and it means a flood of targeted prospects/buyers
coming to your website or company, ready to do business.
Now, because there is so much money involved, a whole SEO industry has
sprung up with consultants, experts and companies offering their services
to get you or your company into those top rankings in the search engines.
These SEO services could include link building, link buying, social media
positioning, onpage optimization, pay-per-click management… all with the
goal of bringing targeted traffic/customers to your site or business.
White Hat vs Black Hat SEO
You may also have heard other webmasters talking about White Hat SEO as
opposed to Black Hat SEO. And as the names suggests, White Hat is strictly
above board proper site optimization, while Black hat is using underhand devious
cloaking methods and system to raise your rankings. For obvious reasons,
always go the White Hat route and you won’t be disappointed and you will
feel better knowing you’re doing the right thing in regards to your site.
Perhaps the next concept or term you should know is Algorithm. Search engines
create complicated algorithms or list of rules which determines not only how
web pages are listed but also which web pages are listed first in their index
or SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). These rules or ranking factors are
used by SEO experts and webmasters to help move their keyword rankings up
in the search engines. You open a web browser, go to a search engine such
as Google, type in a search query for “top corporate lawyers” and the search
engine returns a list of organic results along with a list of paid listings.
Now, getting to that top spot means a lot of potential traffic/clients would
be coming your way.
This is just one example, but most people would quickly realize how lucrative
getting to those top spots would be for any individual or company. They would
also realize that understanding how the search engine algorithms work and how
to manipulate them would be a valuable skill which many clients would pay big
bucks to have on their side. This SEO industry also consists of SEO software
which help webmasters/marketers get their sites into the top positions in
the search engines.
Most SEO experts break up your search engine optimization into TWO TYPES:
On-Page and Off-Page Optimization
On-Page Optimization means getting right all the factors which influence your
rankings in the search engines. Keep in mind, the whole web is “keyword based
and keyword driven” which means you must optimize your domain and site for your
chosen keywords. Your main keyword should be in your Domain Name, in the title
of the page, in the main heading for that page, in the URL and it should appear
(with variations) throughout the page. Try to keep the keyword density to around
2%-5%, although like many things to do with SEO… there are varying opinions on the
exact percentage. But what most experts agree on: the layout or structure of your
web site or pages must be easily reached not only by your visitors but also by
the search engine spiders which crawl your site. Keep it simple, have no links
more than three clicks away from your homepage and many webmasters include a
link back to your homepage on EVERY page of your site.
Off-Page Optimization means building backlinks flowing back to your web site or
web pages. Regardless of what anyone will tell you, getting quality keyworded
links from other high quality keyword related sites is the most important factor
in achieving top rankings in the search engines. So link building should be a
major part of your SEO efforts and something which will bring the fastest results.
These links must appear natural and organic so varying the anchor text (underlined part)
in your links is important. Also, the web is quickly changing, links from social
media sites such as FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter are becoming more helpful to getting
top rankings. So too, are links from blogs especially those from Blogger and Wordpress
because these are optimized for keywords. Don’t forget other media forms such
as videos since links from sites such as YouTube can also boost your rankings.
Tip: SEO experts sometimes like to complicate matters, one easy and simple way
to get hundreds, if not thousands, of links from the different social media sites
is to add the Free Addthis.com bookmark to all your pages/content. Let your visitors
bookmark your content for you. Simple, yet effective SEO technique that doesn’t
cost you anything. Other webmasters simply place bookmark logos for Twitter, FaceBook,
Google Buzz… on their sites. If a page goes viral in one of those networks, you
can get hundreds/thousands of backlinks flowing traffic and SEO link juice back to
your site.
Along those same lines, the key to SEO has been and always will be quality content.
Never forget the web is a very smart place, remember it holds all our collective knowledge,
users will find your quality content and promote it. Produce quality articles and
webmasters will place them on their sites with backlinks to your site. Produce
quality blog posts and bloggers will link back to your posts. Produce quality
videos and viewers will recommend them to their friends.
Now that’s not to say you shouldn’t do any SEO promotion or work. One of the best
ways to succeed is to constantly promote your site or links: do press releases,
write articles, make videos, create quality blog posts… get involved in online
forums related to your topic and leave your sig links at the end of your comments,
do the same for all your email messages by including your signature tag.
Many webmasters make the mistake that just because they have created a well
optimized site – it will automatically rank high in the search engines and you
will get plenty of quality traffic. Now if you’re extremely, extremely, extremely
lucky and by word of mouth your site catches on and becomes popular you will get
that traffic. However, in my experience, you can build an excellent site and have
it indexed in all the search engines but unless you do some SEO promotions it
will go nowhere.
With one of my nine or ten sites, I have done very little in regards to SEO and it has
done exactly that; it gets very little traffic and is nowhere to be seen in the
rankings. This is a site which I have not worked mainly because of lack of time
and it’s not closely related in theme to my other sites. Now if I wanted to promote
this site and build up my rankings… I would do all of the above… write articles,
do press releases, do viral videos, join related forums and get involved, do blog posts,
and so on. Now, from past experiences, I know if I work/promote this site for two or
three months consistently, the rankings would go up and the SEO would improve. Give
it six months to a year and this site would be highly ranked in the search engines
and bringing in a lot of quality traffic.
SEO is not some mysterious process that only a few skilled individuals know how to do,
rather it is a simple process of consistently promoting your site and content by
building quality backlinks from related sites on the web. It is the simple process
of connecting your content with the steady flow of traffic on the web by becoming
involved in forums, blogs, social networks and like-minded communities. SEO is simply
placing your site/content into the whole mix of things so that the search engines
can’t ignore your site. By consistently using SEO you will make your site an authority
on your chosen subject and you won’t look back.

Keyword SEO Backlinks Checker
If you’re a regular reader, you will know, lately I have been
talking about “backlinks” and how important they are
to getting higher rankings, especially in Google. But sometimes
it is extremely helpful to know how many backlinks your competition
has for a certain keyword.
Keep in mind, it is not always “how many” backlinks a site/page
has for a certain keyword, but the quality of those backlinks.
If you want to beat your keyword competition you simply have to
get more backlinks then they have. Of course, on-page optimization
and quality content does count towards your rankings, but it’s
the number and quality of those backlinks which is the deciding
factor.
Anyway, here’s a free seo tool at this site which will let
you type in your keyword and they will tell you the top
ranked sites and how many backlinks each site has.
So check out your favorite keywords here:
