Big Penguin Update Coming – Says Google’s Matt Cutts
While we are all anxiously waiting for Google to refresh
the Penguin data (especially those of us who have been
actively fixing our link profiles and removing poor quality
links) but it seems we will have to wait a little longer for
that refresh. However, it was announced by Google’s Matt Cutts
at the recent SES SearchEngine Conferences in San Francisco
that a major Penguin Update is coming and the impact could
This update will supposedly incorporate new signals and
create a greater impact on search results.
Here’s some of what Cutts said:
“Likewise, we’re still in the early stages of Penguin where the
engineers are incorporating new signals and iterating to improve
the algorithm. Because of that, expect that the next few Penguin
updates will take longer, incorporate additional signals, and as
a result will have more noticeable impact. It’s not the case that
people should just expect data refreshes for Penguin quite yet.”
So all these changes are coming soon and webmasters can only
hope it doesn’t affect their sites or content. The last Penguin
refresh was on May 25/26 – so another one is probably on the horizon.
Many are speculating Google may be holding off on a refresh until
after they release their Disavow Link Tool to give webmasters some
real power to fix their links.
