Google, Linking Out And Avoiding Bad Neighborhoods
From my own observations, I get the general feeling that many webmasters
don’t realize how important a role links play in your online success.
Now, almost everyone knows getting quality one-way backlinks to your
site is vital to getting higher rankings, especially in Google.
But most don’t realize, the sites you LINK OUT to from your content
is just, if not more important, for increasing your rankings.
You must be extremely careful who you link out to on your site. Search
engines are simple robots which have been programmed to gather and rank
the content on the web. Obviously, if they’re ranking keyword content,
those programmed robots are going to group all related websites together
in order to supply the best answer to the web search user.
Linking out to popular, high-ranking PR sites is very important. Even
ranking out to your higher ranked competition can even be beneficial to
your site because it shows the search engines your site is in the whole
mix. Especially if you have an authority site, linking out to other
authority sites is only natural and is expected by the search engines.
Therefore, the more your site interacts with these other authority sites,
will help your rankings. Get involved and submit valuable content to
these sites with links flowing back to your content. You must interconnect
your site with the major players in your niche.
However, you must be careful not to link out to bad neighborhoods or
sites which are considered undesirable by the search engines. Don’t link
out to any content farms or what are perceived as content farms by the
search engines. These sites are considered a form of spam and will drag
down your rankings.
Also, linking out to sites which contains the big “no-no’s” such as drugs,
gambling and sites showing those naughty bits. Avoid linking out to those
kinds of sites at all costs.
Build Your Own Neighborhood
In recent years, one of the most frightening SEO tactics I have seen in
some of my most lucrative keyword niches, companies are building whole
“neighborhoods” of sites which they own and rank well for in the search
engines, especially Google. All these sites are keyword related and boost
each other up in the rankings so that a company would have not one, but
have 5 or 6 sites on the first page of Google for a lucrative keyword phrase.
This is probably the future of the web because the search engines will
have a hard time figuring who owns what? They just see a list of authority
sites all connected to one another… they don’t realize all these sites
are owned by the same company or individual. Don’t just build and promote
one site, build and promote 10 sites or more in your chosen niche.
Be Your Own Competition!
Don’t laugh, this SEO tactic is very effective and much more common
then many webmasters realize. A poor man’s version of this “Build Your
Own Neighborhood” is building a whole series of link wheels using free
blogs and sites like Blogger, Squidoo, WordPress, YouTube, Livejournal,
Ezinearticles, Twitter, Facebook… and so on.
Your goal is to build up your rankings by connecting all this theme-related
content together… this is one way the small webmaster can compete with the
large companies which are building/buying all those links and sites.
Of course, the search engines don’t like all this SEO manipulation and have
put in filters to try and block such tactics. But so far, it is an uphill
battle just tattling all these companies. And at the moment, these companies
are winning and cleaning up.
Regardless of your opinion on this matter, you must get your content out
on the web. These days that means tying everything together by using Twitter,
Youtube, Facebook, Blogger… and I like to believe the higher the quality
of your content, the higher it will rise in the search engines. The more
“real” social bookmarks your content gets, the higher it will rise. But
I am a hopeless romantic, real SEO is much more cynical and cut-throat.
Anyway, if you want to check out your site or sites you plan on linking
to – to see if they are “perceived” as a bad neighborhood – use this tool

Increase Your Rankings With This Free SEO Analyzer Tool
If you have a website, you will probably already know how important
it is to use the right SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques
if you want to get those higher rankings. Now, getting tons of
one-way quality keyworded backlinks will be the most important factor,
but getting all your SEO ducks in a roll really does help.
Over the years I have tested hundreds of SEO tools… some good,
some bad. But I really like the one listed below, it not only does
a helpful analysis of your site or page, but it also presents some
helpful videos by Google’s spokesperson Matt Cutts on how to improve
your site/page to increase your CTR (click through rate).
Besides getting higher rankings, having the right title and description
for your site will make a difference in how many visitors you get.
One trick that has worked for me – “place your main benefit in your
title and description” – in other words give the surfer a good solid
reason why they should NOT hit the back button.
Giving and telling your visitor exactly how they can benefit from
visiting your site will help you get that click. Truth be told, the
traffic battle is often won or lost in the SERPs or search engine
results pages… a good title and description can grab a visitor’s
attention and make them click through to your site. Sometimes it
doesn’t matter if you’re in the top spot, just as long as you can
capture that click with a good title or description.
Make sure you get this right or do some tweaking to find out what
works the best. However, one word of caution, if you’re into marketing
you will want to find the title or description which converts into
a sale. I approach this from different angles and what has worked
for me is using either “deals/coupons/discounts” or
“comparison/compare/products” for getting higher conversion
rates.
In close ranking battles, having the right keyword density will make
a slight difference, so try to have your page or site reflect the right
keywords. Again, targeting the right keywords which convert into a sale
will improve your bottom line. Obviously, targeting words related to
“discounts, best deals, coupons, gifts, lowest price” will help increase
sales. I have also found targeting brand names can increase your sales
especially with long-tail phrases.
I have also found it helpful to have your main keywords in different parts
of your page or site. Try including them in the meta tag description,
in the H1, in the alt image attributes and place some in bold print and
italics. Don’t go overboard, always write your content for your visitors
and not for the search engines, but keep your keywords in mind when
creating your pages.
Like I said, getting all your SEO ducks in a roll will help improve
your rankings, especially in those close keyword battles. Beating your
competitor could just be a matter of tweaking or optimizing your site
or page.

Get Quality Backlinks With Real Link Builder
Don’t know about you but for me as a webmaster and marketer
my biggest problem is finding quality one-way backlinks.
For years, article marketing worked perfectly for me
because there were so few people doing it.
What do you mean?
Well, when I joined Ezinearticles.com, the top article directory on
the web, I was member number 1561. Now there are over 370,000
members or writers submitting articles.
That’s a lot of competition.
Your articles get quickly lost in the crowd and your articles just
don’t get the placements on quality sites like they once did. Now, I still
do article marketing, but I have turned to other ways to build quality
backlinks.
One way is to find quality keyword-related sites/blogs/forums and join in
the conversation by adding your views, opinions and your information.
True comment link-building is a quick and easy way to get good backlinks.
We are not talking about comment spam where robots go in and plant
links on related blogs in the form of comments. Please don’t spam,
it will only be taken down by quality sites anyway.
Add helpful comments and information that site visitors can use
and appreciate. And the webmaster or owner of the blog or site will let
you link back to your content.
Why?
Because “comments” or rather “quality comments” plays an important role
in that site or blog’s rankings – especially in Google. For example,
I have several YouTube channels, the ones getting the most comments and
feedback get listed higher in the rankings. Search engines want to
see real people interacting, they don’t want to see manufactured
links.
Real people, real comments.
I also believe linking out to quality sites is just as important
as those sites linking in – especially in Google. You should have
your site linking out to the major players in your niche. Some SEO
experts will say this is only giving PR to your competition but it’s
a good trade-off. You show your site is connected to the important
players in your niche.
Another issue is the “follow” or “no-follow” tags assigned to these
out going links. Most experts will tell you to only get the “follow”
links so the PageRank is passed along to your site. I am not so sure
about this.
At least in some cases, YouTube have “no-follow” but having your
links on YouTube do improve your rankings in Google. But then again,
YouTube is owned by Google so that might be an exception to the
rule.
Anyway, in general having quality backlinks won’t hurt your rankings,
it will improve them. Here’s a handy piece of Free Linking Software
from Neil Shearing.
It’s called “Real Link Finder” and it will quickly help you find
countless blogs and sites where you can add your comments and links.
Just Google to find it.
You will have to give an email address in order to get this but
otherwise it is free.

How To Monetize Your Web Content
Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions for webmasters
has to be: How do I monetize my web pages? How do I make money
from my online content?
As a full time online marketer and webmaster, this is a question I
have considered many times and found my own answers through years
of trial and error. Of course, I have taken the passive route in
my quest for that online income. This means instead of producing
my own products, I market and promote affiliate goods and services.
I do NO direct selling on any of my websites, I collect no money
and I don’t even have a payment program or system in place.
All my income and commissions come from referring traffic or clients
to the affiliate companies which I promote. Totally passive.
These companies do all the selling, delivery of products, customer
support, everything… I just get a small percentage for having
referred that customer or client. This passive method has worked
extremely well for me but keep in mind, selling your own products
and services will be much more lucrative since you will receive
the majority of the profits instead of just a small commission
or referral fee.
However, if you’re like me and want a more “hands-off” passive income
from your web content, here are some of the things I have learned over
the years. You might find some of these tips helpful in your own
monetization. I have placed these tips in the form of a “q and a”
format…
1. Should I use Google Adsense?
While placing Google Adsense ads on your site or blog is extremely
easy, the rates are very low. You can make 10 to 100 times more
by using affiliate links instead of these ads. For example, for one
Adsense click you could get anywhere from a few cents to several dollars,
whereas with an affiliate program you can get from $10 to $100+ for
a click which turns into a sale. However, Google is one of most respected
and reliable companies on the web. They pay on time and should not be
ignored. I have used Adsense for years mainly because you can’t always
find affiliate programs for some content and besides, you can place
both affiliate links and Google Adsense on your pages.
2. Should I use Amazon?
Another very simple way to monetize your content is to place Amazon
products and referral links on your pages. Amazon’s referral rates
are slightly better than Google Adsense especially if you have high
volume sales but they are still lower in general. However, I have
found users tend to really trust Amazon and buy from them more frequently
and more often so conversion rates are much higher than any other
affiliate program I have used. For this reason alone, Amazon should
be on your list if you want earn money from the web. I have been
using them for years and find building your links are very easy,
so too is building whole “A Stores” on a particular topic or line
of products.
3. What is ClickBank and Should I use it?
ClickBank is one of the largest affiliate networks for downloadable
products such as ebooks and software. They pay some of the largest
commissions, 40% to 50% or more is very common. Very reliable, I have
been using them for years and you should include some ClickBank products
on your pages. Please note that ClickBank does deduct a small percentage
of your commissions to cover any returns, but it also means you don’t
have any dropped commissions – once you make a sale, you will get paid
for it.
4. What are affiliate networks?
Affiliate networks, like Commission Junction and LinkShare, are major
players in the online affiliate world. These affiliate networks represent
thousands of companies which offer products and services that webmasters
can promote. They handle all sales transactions and send out your
commission checks each month. Most of my affiliate programs are through
these affiliate networks with CJ being the top one mainly because
they have excellent feedback and tracking.
5. How do I find a profitable affiliate products or service?
Regardless of what you’re promoting, you must be very careful to pick
quality products that’s closely related to your content. These two factors
will mainly determine your conversion rates, although product ads and display
images do play a small part. If you use a network like Commission Junction
they will tell which company is making the most sales, they will also tell
you which ads are getting the highest return with the actual dollar amount
(EPC – earnings per 100 clicks). I always use this data when picking which
companies and products I promote on my sites.
6. Why do I need to create different income streams?
The real beauty of running an online business, you can have many different
income sources which pay you each month. You should plan on having at least
10 to 20 income streams, if one should dry up, you will have the others to
depend upon. Once you have quality traffic coming to your website, it is
just a matter of placing different affiliate links on your pages, I like
including at least three or four different companies on a page, this way
you can easily create different income streams for the same page. Throughout
your site, don’t just rely upon one company or product, have many different
affiliate links and companies.
7. What should be your main strategic objective?
Don’t make this mistake, instead of making one sale and getting paid for
it once, pick products and services which give you a re-occurring or
residual income. You do the same promotion and work but get paid for
years to come. I am still earning income on sales I made five years ago.
This will significantly improve your bottom line or your return on investment.
Products and services which have a monthly billing element are good candidates
for residual income… such as web hosting, autoresponder services,
tele-communications and so on. Don’t rule out forming partnerships
with businesses in the subject of your website, you might be surprised
at the response you get.
Effectively monetizing your web content will largely determine if succeed
or not, so try some of the tips above. Of course, there are many other ways
to monetize your traffic such selling direct ads and links on your pages.
The list above is not my full list but they are some of my top-performing
programs and they should also work for you and your web content.
