New Sandy Bridge Laptops

Compiled and Written by Titus Hoskins.

With the New Intel 2nd Generation Core i3, i5 and i7 Processors

Sandy Bridge is the Second Generation Core i Processors from Intel. These new processors are faster and offer greater performance than their predecessors. Sandy Bridge is all about more integration, especially when it comes to graphics, video transcoding and hyper threading. As of January, 2011 - we have 14 desktop and 15 mobile different versions of these processors or CPUs.

Sandy Bridge is a big improvement in performance, according to Anand Shimpi of Anandtech.com: "For the same money as you would've spent last year, you can expect anywhere from 10-50% more performance in existing applications and games from Sandy Bridge."

In the high level Sandy Bridge chips such as the Intel Core i7-2600K you can expect 3.4GHz with turbo boost to 3.8GHz and this doesn't take in the whole issue of overclocking where 4.6-4.8GHz is possible. Gamers, who are always pushing performance to the extreme, will be a major market for these new processors. Already, we are seeing Sandy Bridge versions of popular brand name such as HP Envy and Alienware M17xR.3 see them here. The new Alienware will sport the Intel Core i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) or the lower 2720QM and 2630QM.

If you have been waiting to upgrade your PCs and Laptops, Sandy Bridge does supply some very good reasons. If you're into video editing or transcoding, you should take a very close look at the Quick Synch Video feature on these new processors.

Then there is the whole issue of overlocking and buyers should note that low end processors may be locked. Since Sandy Bridge moves the clock off the motherboard and into the chipset this would present a problem since BCLK overclocking may just be dead. However, Intel is offering fully unlocked versions in the higher-end CPUs so there some relief for gaming enthusiasts.

Other popular Sandy Bridge Laptops:

Qosmio X505-Q8102 18.4-Inch Gaming Laptop $1,599.00

Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV12 15.6-Inch Laptop $1,599.99

HP Pavilion dv7-4290us 17.3-Inch Entertainment Notebook PC $1,129.00
