Toshiba Qosmio X775-3DV78 17.3-Inch 3D Gaming Laptop
Recently, at this year's CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas,
Toshiba announced improvements to its Qosmio F755 3D line of gaming
laptops which will allow these systems or devices to be Glasses-Free.
Basically, Toshiba and NVIDIA worked together to develop display
technology which uses the laptop's webcam to essentially track a
user's eye-movements to give users a broader viewing area for the
3D images.
This is a software update which is available through Toshiba's Service
Station Utility. With this new 3D software upgrade, gamers can now
play the 100 or so current 3D enabled games in the marketplace. This
is a special stereoscopic 3D display which doesn't need glasses, one
of the major drawbacks to wide mainstream acceptance of 3D.
Could these new glasses-free laptops and devices give 3D technology
added traction and more broader acceptance with consumers. While 3D
released movies are still attracting audiences, sales of 3D TVs and
Laptops have not created or attracted the same frenzy. Consumers are
still lukewarm when it comes to accepting/buying 3D technology in
the home entertainment environment.
Although many manufacturers are adding 3D as an added feature,
rather than the main selling point. Will the same thing happen
for gaming laptops if the software and technology can perfect
a viable 3D system without the glasses? Will the present 3D
option become a standard feature in the gaming laptops of the
future?
This could definitely be a possibility when you consider 3D images
have always been a major element in designing video games. Why not
enhance these images and game play by going to a full glasses-free
stereoscopic 3D systems.
Companies like NVIDIA have invested a lot of resources in developing
3D technology, not only with the system mentioned above, but they
also have developed their widely used 3D Vision Kits. These systems
are present in many gaming laptops and desktop PCs. No doubt, if the
glasses-free technology can perfect 3D viewing, wider overall acceptance
is almost guaranteed, especially for gaming devices.
