Overall Assessment/Reviews ...Very Good to Raving! It does seem very appropriate that the definition of Qosmio is "My Personal Universe" and the the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q898 lives up to its name. This large 10 pound desktop replacemnet laptop features all the components of a high-end entertainment/gaming notebook. First, we have the powerful quad-core 1.73 GHz Intel i7-740QM processor which has Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.93 GHz. Coupled with the high-end NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics card, which has an amazing 1.5 GB GDDR5 Discrete Graphics video memory. The system itself has 6 GB of DDR3 RAM at 1066 MHz; which can be upgraded to 8 Gigs. However, the most tempting feature of the Qosmio X505-Q898 is the Full 1080p High Definition 18.4-inch TFT LCD TruBrite display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. Coupled with a Blu-ray Drive, this widescreen laptop will give you one of the best viewing experiences you can find on any gaming laptop currently on the market. Throw in the excellent Harman Kardon stereo speakers and you do have a True entertainment system for all your movies and video games. Plus, the Qosmio sporta a 1.3 Megapixel Webcam with Face Recognition for extra security. And as you would expect on a high-end machine you have an aboundance of connection and networking features which include: * 4 total USB ports * 1 eSATA/USB combo port which is 5 times faster * FireWire IEEE 1394 * HDMI-CEC HD Output for 1080p high-definition videos/games. * VGA Output * Combo headphone + microphone/line-in jack * Multi-format memory card reader * ExpressCard (34/54) Slot * Wireless-N Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n * Integrated Bluetooth 2.1 * Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) This version of the Qosmio X505-Q898 features a 500 GB hard drive coupled by a 64 GB solid state drive. Keep in mind, a SSD will give you lightning fast access/booting times which comes in handy for gaming. It is also ofter greater reliability since a SSD has no moving parts. In addition, the hard drive has an impact sensor to prevent damage when the laptop is dropped. Performance: As tested by the ComputerShopper site, the Qosmio X505-Q898 out performed its competition such as the HP Envy 17 and Acer Aspire 8943G on the 64-bit PCMark Vantage Test, scoring 10,458. The X505 also scored a very fast 94.6 (fps) on Company of Heroes, which shows this gaming laptop will play most current video games. Playable Games Reported by users: Assassin’s Creed II, BATMAN AA GOTY, Company of Heroes... Battery Life: Amazon shows 3.75 hours of battery life (12-cell battery; 87 Wh) but others report around 2 hrs. depending on usage. Keyboard: Full LED Backlit Keyboard with 10-key numeric pad. Size: 11.6 x 17.4 x 1.6 inches; Weight 10.1 pounds. Cons: Huge and heavy, short battery life, expensive, fingerprint smudging, not Sandy Bridge. Pros: Stunning Full HD 1080p 18.4-inch TFT LCD TruBrite display, Blu-ray, Powerful CPU, Eye-cathing design. Conclusion: The Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q898 is an excellent entertainment and gaming laptop. Mainly because of the stunning Full 1080p 18.4 display, great Harman Kardon speakers and Blu-ray Drive. High end performance from the powerful Intel Quad-Core 1.73 GHz Intel i7-740QM processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics card makes this a wise choice despite the rather high price. Only drawback it doesn't have the newer and faster Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM processor which is featured in the Qosmio X500-Q930X Gaming Laptop.
