Overall Assessment/Reviews ... Very Good to Raving! This Panasonic 'Tough' ruggedized notebook stands out for many reasons: - a strong and light magnesium-alloy body which supports a shock-mounted 40GB Hard Drive, - a pop-up 'clamshell' combo CD-RW/DVD drive with a slight 'wow' factor - a 14.1 crisp 1400-by-1050 SXGA antiglare TFT screen in a 3.3 pound package - a good comfortable full-size keyboard - long battery life, 5 to 6 hours, depending on your tasks Before this starts sounding like a commercial, the Panasonic ToughBook Y2 does has some limitations, mainly no FireWire port, limited to 512MB RAM, a three-prong AC plug, and no writable DVD option. Others have also noted tinny sound. However, the ToughBook Y2 offers good performance with a 1.3-GHz Low Voltage Intel Pentium M 713 processor and the miminiun 256MB of RAM using Windows XP Professional. It has all the major business connection ports and offers a three year warranty with excellent tech support 24/7 by a toll-free phone call or email. Battery life is around 5 hours. Size: 12.1" Width X 9.4" Height X 1.4" Depth @ 3.3 pound Cons: Tinny sound, no FireWire port, limited to 512MB RAM, a three-prong AC plug. Pros: Strong magnesium-alloy body, large screen, good performance, long battery life. Conclusion: One of the thinnest and lightest in its class offering a 14-inch screen, good choice for mobile business, students and professionals on the move. Expensive, but you do have to pay more for quality!
