Overall Assessment/Reviews
...Very Good to Raving!
The Lenovo IdeaPad S10 scores more than a few points for being
one of the fastest nebooks you can buy. Subtracting from the
rave reviews has been the poor battery life of just 2.5 hours
from the 3-cell battery.
The IdeaPad S10 in the style department also gets "mixed"
reviews - some say the white plastic exterior makes it look
like a child's toy, rather than a rather robust performing
netbook which it truly is. Guess, beauty is in the "eyes of
the beholder" and it would largely depend on what you're
looking for in a netbook.
The IdeaPad S10 because of it's superior performance is often
ranked above many other netbooks including the MSI Wind and
the Aspire ONE.
All subjective judgment aside, the Lenovo IdeaPad does hold
some solid specs... a 5400-rpm, 160GB platter-based hard disk
with 1.6-GHz Intel Atom CPU and 1GB of RAM. A good keyboard
and sharp 10.2-inch, 1024-by-600-resolution display adds to
the IdeaPad pluses.
One of its strongest points: it can more easily be upgraded
than other netbooks in its field. On the IdeaPad S10 you can
easily access the storage drive, system RAM, and/or the wireless
cards.
Some other notable features on the IdeaPad S10 would have to
be the ExpressCard slot which makes it easy for you to add a
broadband modem so that no matter where you are you can stay
connected to the Internet if you have cell phone reception.
The S10's touchpad is also rather good for a netbook. Many report
that it offers excellent responsiveness and good smooth tracking.
However, some users objected to the "sound" or click the mouse
buttons make - not exactly ideal for a quiet classroom.
The IdeaPad boots very quickly, with Windows Startup taking less
than 30 seconds. Plus, overall performance levels on such things
as web browsing, editing files, or even editing photos were quite
good for a netbook. Just don't expect to do much gaming on this
machine. Then again that's not the purpose of the IdeaPad in any
case, since it's meant to be handy mobile device that will keep you
connected to the web and also let you communicate with family and
friends no matter where you are.
Battery Life: 2.5 with 3 cell battery.
Pros: Great performance, very fast, nice design, large HHD and easily upgradeable.
Plus, good value for money.
Cons: Low Batter Life, some don't like the "toy-like" feel to the plastic on
the IdeaPad.
Conclusion: If you want one of the fastest preforming netbooks on the market,
go with the Lenovo IdeaPad S10. It does have some drawbacks, mainly poor battery life
but it's style and design can't be matched by most other netbooks. Still has some
IBM DNA in there yet!
