Overall Assessment/Reviews ...Very Good to Raving! HP Mini 2140 Netbook The HP Mini 2140 has gotten some great reviews especially for the roomy keyboard and long battery life with the 6-cell battery model. The Mini 2140 is the updated version or rather replacement for HP's 2133 mini-laptop and it has many nice improvements with more to come on later models of this netbook. At 2.6 pounds with the 3-cell battery, the HP 2140 is pretty light but with the 6-cell battery it comes in at 3 pounds which is heavier than the 2.6 pound MSI Wind and the 2.8 pound Samsung NC10. Buyers should check the Screen Resolution of the Mini 2140 10.1" Widescreen TFT display, earlier versions have 1024 x 576 resolution, which according to Computer Shopper gave a "halo" effect which made reading some of the text difficult. Later versions of Mini 2140 offers 1366 x 768 display which is much better than the average 1024 x 600-pixel resolution screens seen on must netbooks. One of the major selling points for the Mini 2140, besides great style and good performance, is the long battery life - 7 hours with the 6 cell battery. The average for most netbooks is around 4 hours. However, some critics or users don't like the bulky way the 6 cell battery sits on the bottom of the chassis of the Mini 2140; while others say it gives the Mini 2140 a good typing angle. The HP 2140 Mini-Note sports the Atom N270 processor at 1.6 GHz and comes with 1 GB of RAM. You have a choice of Windows XP (Pro or Home), FreeDOS, SuSe Linux, and you can even get Vista Business or Home Basic but you will have to upgrade to 2 GB of RAM. Most users and critics generally say the performance of Mini 2140 is very snappy and quick - see video review below. For example, with the 160GB, 5,400-rpm Hitachi SATA hard drive you can boot Windows XP Home in about 57 seconds. There is also a solid-state drive option available but it will greatly increase your price. The HP 2140 came with all the expected Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 802.11 a/b/g/n, mic and headphone jacks, a VGA port and web camera. But note while most netbooks come with three USB ports, the Mini 2140 comes with only two because HP has used the space for an ExpressCard/54 slot - which can be used for adding a mobile broadband card, handy to have on a netbook.

Battery Life: 7 hours with the 6-cell battery. Around 3 hours for the 3-cell battery depending on usage. Pros: Great keyboard, good battery life and value for your money. Conclusion: Overall the HP 2140 Mini laptop is worth considering if you're in the market for a good solid netbook with excellent battery life. Some minor points like the bulky 6 cell battery placement doesn't hinder the overall performance of this netbook. *Seclective Quality Reviews: HP Mini 2140 Netbook Use these handy Quality Review Links for more detailed information and reviews here:
