Overall Assessment/Reviews ...Good to Very Good! The Gaming PC is spouting a new hybrid of computer - it is not exactly portable in the sense of a traditional notebook and it's not exactly a desktop computer or even a desktop replacement. It's more of a 'moveable or mobile desktop'! It might seem at first to be just a matter of semantics, but there really is a new style or type of notebook computer that's being designed for the gaming market that has to be put in a class of its own. It deserves separate billing! These machines are not meant to be portable (as in frequent traveling) but simply a moveable desktop that can be transported very quickly over short distances. Unlike traditional notebooks, battery life and weight are not as important in the 'moveable desktop' - what really counts is performance. Big Emphasis on performance. These computers are maxed to the limit in regards to technical performance - the faster the better. Graphics, visuals, and audio are given center stage and tweaked to perfection. The entertainment value rules the day. Inspiron XPS Extreme is Dell's entry into the Gaming 'mobile desktop' market. The emphasis is on graphics and power - supplied by the upgraded 256MB ATi Mobility Radeon 9800 graphics chip and supported by Intel Pentium 4 (3.40 GHz) processor, coupled with 1 GB DDR SDRAM on a 80 GB IDE Hard drive. The display on this Dell notebook computer is a 15.4 in TFT active matrix with superhigh, 1,920x1,200 native resolution - resulting in super crisp images. Sound is handled with internal speakers and a subwoofer. Gamers should check out this machine! Put it on your list! Size: 14.1 in x 10.8 in x 2 in @ 9 lbs Cons: Short battery life, expensive. Pros: High End gaming 'mobile desktop', stylish design and presentation, powerful performance. Conclusion: Inspiron XPS Extreme is a passable Gaming Machine. Gamers should consider this one in their top list of machines.
