o Back to the Work

The Labour Day Weekend is the saddest holiday
of the year! It marks the end of summer and
suddenly it's back to school time. Where did
that summer go?

Just when you're getting your pre-cancerous tan
going really good - the summer is over. Life is
not fair. Summer should last forever - or at least
until Thanksgiving!

Actually, I am kinda glad summer is over, August
has always been my slowest month on here for
marketing. Even my website traffic takes a dip
- don't know if you experience the same thing.
Everybody is on holidays, Europe shuts down, the
weather is just too good to be stuck on the
computer all day.

But those lows are temporary - usually picks up
steam as we move towards xmas and the new year.

o The Rich Jerk

You probably know by now, 'Copywriting' plays a big,
big BIG factor in your success or failure on the web.
It is the 'key' to achieve any kind of success with
your site or sites. It is the one skill you must master
(or hire someone to do it for you).

Being able to get your points across, being able to
persuade, being able to make your visitor click where
and when you want them to click - is the key. Master
those skills and you are on your way to running a
successful website.

Writing web copy, writing sales letters, writing a
readable ezine or newsletter does take considerable
skill - but writing skills, like any kind of skill,
can be learned. Just takes a little practice and some
very good role models...if you want to know how it
done - seek out the masters!

Here's a short list of my favorite 'copy' 'net'
'sales' writers:

- Don Lok, Supposed to be the #1 conversion expert in the world, he's good!
http://www.websiteconversionexpert.com/

- Michel Fortin, One of the top Copywriters on the web!
http://thecopydoctor.com/

- David Vallieres Want to know how to write a newsletter?
Check out Dave's!
http://www.infoproductlab.com/

- And then there is 'The Rich Jerk!'

Who is the Rich Jerk? The person goes by the username
of Kellyandsummer. Whoever he/she is ... they can
write sales copy ...darm good sales copy.

There are probably thousands of Rich Jerks on the
Internet, webmasters and marketers who are making a
killing with their websites, affiliate marketing,
google adwords and adsense... but most of them keep
quiet and work in the background.

The greatest thing about the web, nobody has to
know your name. You can work in total anonymity if
you so desire it. Nobody has to know your business
or the extent of it. Unless, of course, you want
them to know it.

Unless you write a tell-all info product ebook on
how much and how you're making a killing on the
Internet. Then everyone will be wondering who you
are?

My only problem, why tell all these secrets, why
not just quietly go on raking in the money. The main
reason - because marketers like the Rich Jerk can make
even more money by selling his/her secrets to you.

Also, some of us just can't overcome that basic human
need - the need to brag!

'Look at me! See how I am making all money!' - even if
the Rich Jerk is going about it in a around about way.

To a certain extent, nobody grows up completely, we
are all stuck in Junior High for the rest of our
lives... sad but true.

And like in Junior High, when you discovered all
those 'dirty expressions' and used them every chance
you got! Well, the sales letter of the Rich Jerk
reminded me of that time, but it's still some of the
'best copy' I have read in a long time...

Check it out - it's worth a laugh if nothing else...
The Rich Jerk

o Google Desktop 2 and RSS

Google has just released their beta version of Desktop 2.

Location, location, location.

Google is going 'head-to-head' with Microsoft for the control
of your desktop. The prime location in the whole computer
battleground. No need to mention, the stakes are very high -
a billion or so computer users.

Perhaps, what is more important, Google has included a
powerful RSS enhanced sidebar that allows you to personalize
your news and RSS/Atom feeds. Further fueling the RSS
revolution!

This is a great feature, similar to the Firefox 'live bookmarks'
and 'MyYahoo'. It can only increase the use of RSS in our
daily computing chores. It will also introduce more people
to RSS.

Despite all the hype/fuss/buzz - RSS is still relatively
new or foreign to most Internet users. Sad but true.
Perhaps, even more surprising, a lot of surfers use
RSS without having an idea they're using RSS!

When Microsoft comes out with its new LongHorn RSS Browser
and Operating System. RSS will further become more mainstream
and commonplace.

But Google Desktop 2 is further proof RSS is here to
stay and is a major force to be reckon with.

fighting for the control of your desktop! It is without
a doubt one of the best locations in the computing
world - beach front property with a spectacular view!

location. It's fair game for everyone. You should
be targeting it in your own marketing. The rewards
are big!

Here's a list of 10 ways you can use to extend the
reach of your site, some of these ways include the
desktop of potential visitors or customers.

Hope you can read this article and put to good use

o Promotional Desktop Calendar

In the same light, I have just started using a
simple desktop ecalendar and personal planner
in my own marketing. It's a simple download
from DATEwise and it sits on a user's desktop.

It has LIVE LINKS to my site and contact email,
along with my sales message.

o Topping the Search Engines

o Extend the Reach of Your Site

o History of Google

................

o Topping the Search Engines

My campaign for 'Promotional Desktop Calendars'
finally hit in both Google and Yahoo this week.

#1 in Yahoo and #6 in Google for 'free desktop
calendar' - I was already at #1 in MSN last week
for the same keyword phrase. However, I am still
struggling with the more targeted and potentially
more lucrative keyword phrase - 'promotional calendar'.

Check Your Keyword Rankings in Google, Yahoo and MSN Here!

You will generally find the 'keywords' that pay
are a lot more competitive - webmasters and marketers
are already targeting those keywords and some of
these marketers or companies have deep pockets.

It still can be done, just takes more work and a
little more planning. It also takes time to build
deep links to that phrase but it can be done and I
will keep you posted.

Anyone reading this can shoot me an email and I will
answer your questions if I can...

Just a few observations, a #6 listing in Google is
worth more than #1's in both Yahoo and MSN combined.
Google delivers the traffic - anyone marketing online
will learn that fact very quickly.

What's even more important, Google supplies SERPs
results to other Google Enhanced search engines...AOL,
Dogpile, etc. getting a #1 in Google should be
anyone's goal!

As for the DATEwise Desktop calendar - it's a great
promotional tool that can be used with any website.
It's a custom design job tailored to your website or
product so it's on the expensive side but it will put
your links right where their belong - on your visitor's
desktop.

Location, location, location - whether you're selling
real estate or marketing an online product or site
- it's still a major selling factor that has to be
reckon with. Placing a link to your website on thousands
of desktops can be very valuable to have. This desktop
calendar is perpetual, so users will have it on their
desktops for years to come.

You can download a free DATEwise ecalendar here and
check it out - let me know what you think of it.

Free DATEwise Desktop Calendar

Don't be too shocked when or if you come across my ugly
mugshot. It's the concept you're judging! This desktop
calendar can extend the reach of your site - place it on
desktops around the globe. Neatly packaged with LIVE LINKS
to your site or product, along with your contact
email link.

Extending the reach of your site is a major factor
in its success. Read more below on this subject...

o Extend the Reach of Your Site

Successful websites extend their reach far and wide!
They build links, connections, partnerships, use
whatever means they can to extend the reach of their
sites. You should do the same with your site.

By extending the reach of your website you will
create greater exposure, bringing in more targeted
traffic, leads and sales. It will also greatly
increase the importance of your site - boosting name
recognition and increasing your site's visibility.

One of the best ways, of course, is link building.
We need to build links to related websites around the
web. If you want to check your link popularity - this
is what I use to check my link popularity.
Link Popularity Check Download

You should also use google alerts - it will tell or alert
you when someone places your link on their site.

You must build links, one of the best SEO resource
person/product I have found is Brad Callen. Try a free
trial of his email ecourse and you will see what I mean.
One of the best.Seo Elite

Here's some of my best techniques for extending the
reach of my site, some of these are very simple, some
more complex.

- My #1 method of extending the reach of my site - writing
articles. Get one way targeted links placed all over
the web by writing simple 'how to' articles on the topic
or theme of your site. More info on this here:
Article Writing

- Viral desktop applications like the DATEwise desktop
eCalendar - you can extend the reach by placing links
directly on the desktops of your visitors. Also great
for building brand recognition.

- Old fashion link building - finding related websites
and asking for reciprocal links is still one of the best
ways to extend your site. Takes a bit of hard work but
it pays off big.

- Make sure you have a bookmark link on all your pages.
You might also want to make a favicon - small logo
that goes with your bookmarks.

- Ezine or Newsletter - you can reach and keep reaching
your site's visitor's by building your own opt-in
list newsletter or ezine.

- Viral ebooks and reports - these can be simple 'how-to'
ebooks on topics related to your site. I have a couple
on my site - One on RSS List Building and the other on
Opt-in List Building Toolkit.

- Forum posting - becoming a regular poster on all the
online forums will give your site greater exposure and
build site or brand recognition. List of forums here:
Bizwaremagic's Internet Marketing Forums

- Off-line Advertising - placing your site's logo or url
in off-line places, billboards, t-shirts, caps, etc.
This will also extend the reach of your site.

- Burning your best programs or information on CDs, DVDs or disks
and distributing these around to all interested parties will
create more brand recognition.

- RSS feeds and Blogs - This may prove to be the granddaddy
of ways to extend your site. The original name for
RSS stood for 'Rich Site Summary' - you would make a
summary of your website and syndicate it to all interested
parties. Other webmaster will take your syndicated RSS feeds
and place them on their sites. You make mini satellite
sites of your content all over the web!

These are some of the best ways of extending the reach of
your site. There are many others but trying just a few of
these will bring in more targeted leads and traffic to your
site. It will also boost site creditability and more importantly
it will also boost sales.

o History of Google

You should get to know everything you can about Google.
Even speculative articles like this one about where Google
may be going - is worth reading.

I had originally called this article 'Google for Goooooooood, Is
Google Searching for Divinity?' but that title was 'too far out
there' and may offend too many people. It was written as a
personal reflective look at Google's history and role since
1998. The title of article now is 'Everything you wanted
to know about Google but were afraid to search for...'
You can read it here:

o Feeding the Spider - SEO Tactics That May Help You

"Learn from my stupidity!"

Now that's not a phrase you hear very often but it
holds a lot of truth. Sometimes, stupid mistakes or
wrong moves made by someone else can be very
helpful to us! If you can learn from other people's
mistakes, you are well on your way to avoiding them in
your own future marketing plans.

In that light, I thought would keep you updated on my
Promotional Campaign of the DATEwise desktop eCalendar.
Lessons I learn here - could also be avoided or applied
to your own marketing. I am not a SEO expert, just know
what works and what doesn't. Important information that
may save you a few headaches as you promote your web site
or business.

To recap, my goal was to put my DATEwise links on the
first page SERPs of all three search engines Google,
Yahoo and MSN for the keyword phrases - 'free desktop
calendar' and the more targeted and more competitive
'promotional calendar'.

I thought it would take about a week or so to do this - but
I was wrong. Dead wrong.

So far here are the results:

#1 in MSN for "Free Desktop Calendar" & #20 for
"Desktop Calendar"

In Yahoo, I am not hitting on the first three pages for
any of my 'Keywords'. Which is strange because I have
designed my site to hit in all three engines and a lot
of my key phrases do exactly that. Check 'opt in list
building' - if you don't believe me.

#1 in Google for "Desktop eCalendar" but this really
doesn't count because it's a little searched keyword
phrase.

How do I know this?

You can check how many times any keyword was searched last
month by checking with the 'pay-per-click' site
- overture.com here:Overture

Why would I believe I could a keyword or phrase into
all three engines within a week --- because I have done
it many times in the past. Just this week I did it for
the keyword 'notebook for students' with my site.
I placed the link on Monday and by Thursday it was
hitting in Google. Jusst check this link:
notebook for students

The big lesson here is - getting a keyword that's directly
related to your site's already high ranked keywords is a
simple job. That is, you are already high ranked for very
similar keywords (notebooks, laptop guide, top rated notebooks)
then getting your keyword indexed and ranked high is a
relatively easy job.

Try doing the same with a keyword phrase that's not
similar to your already high ranked keywords on your
site and you will have more difficulty. Although
'promotional calendar' does fit in with the theme
of my bizware site - it's not directly related
to any 'keyword themes' that I have been focusing
on with my site i.e. notebook computers, rss, opt in
list building, spyware...

Try to paint you a picture, search engines sent out
'spiders' that go into your site and index all the links,
keywords, content, etc. and send all this information
back to the mother nest where it's further analyzed,
filtered and ranked according to all the other
information coming in from other sites.

If these search engines find your content valid,
with enough links and content covering certain
'keyword themes' they will rank your
site high for these topics.

Google has a PR value system which it uses to rank
your site and keywords, if you have a lot of high PR
web sites linking to your site - your rankings in
Google will be high. It someone important casts a vote
for your site - then your ranking goes up. Links to
your sites coming from PR6 or PR7 ranked sites are
worth their weight in gold. Especially, if those sites
are related in theme to your site. Directly related
to your keywords.

Now, back to the discussion at hand, DATEwise, if you
try to get a high ranking for a keyword or keyword
phrase that's only indirectly related to your
site - you may run into problems.

It's as if Google has programmed their spider to
'spit out' links or keywords that don't fit in with
the general theme of your site. For a search engine,
perhaps this is a good idea because they like to spin
their web very tightly, all keywords and sites closely
related to each other are neatly packaged into those
SERPs or search engine results pages.

It's like sorting jelly beans when you were a little
kid - having all those red ones in one big pile was
comforting and make life a lot simpler! It doesn't
complicate things!

Search engines have to cough up 'relevant content or answers'
to enquiries - all neatly piled in one big group
of answers.

At least that's my reading of what's happening with
DATEwise. Of course, there's a simple way around this
problem, but it takes more time to solve. You have
to build those related sites and links (off site) to
your targeted 'keyword' theme.

This is a lot easier than you might think,
'article writing' is one quick solution. Place
your keywords into articles and pass these around
the Net - you will quickly build incoming links
to your 'keyword theme' from related sites. Other
webmasters are also playing the 'SEO' game, they want
valuable content related to their site's theme and
they want to link to your site because you cover
the same subject. If they do so, they too are
related to the same theme by the search engines.

The real boost in your 'keyword rankings' will
come if you can get a site like 'addme.com' or
'sitepronews.com' to mail your articles out to
thousands of subscribers along with your keyword
links. This will gently kick the 'spiders into
a feeding frenzy'!

Another new way to create off site links is with
a blog. I have started a simple blog in blogger.com
(owned by Google) on promotional calendars - my main
keyword phrase. In this case, I am trying to present
the case to businesses or companies that use the
traditional promotional calendar to consider the
newer and potentially more effective desktop calendar.

I am not trying to spam using this blog or blogs,
but providing very narrow valuable information on
a particular subject area. It's the main reason
the search engines love blogs - very focused information
for their clients or searchers.

Of course, it also gives me another URl to place on
those SERPs for my particular 'keyword phrase' but
that's a different discussion for another time.

Will keep you posted on my DATEwise campaign,
like I said, my results/problems/triumphs could be
of some help to you.

o Top Five Lead Capture Tools & How They Work

Here's this week feature article on my Top Five Lead
Capture Tools that I use with my site. An explanation
of how each one works is also presented.

o My Top Paying Affiliate Programs
(Information that might be of some help to you!)

Whether you're heavily into affiliate marketing
like me or just want some small affiliate income
to cover your hosting expenses - I thought I would
tell you about some of my Top Affiliate Programs.

Please don't get the wrong impression, I am NOT
some affiliate marketer raking in 10's of thousands
of dollars each month.

But I have sold 10's of thousands of dollars
from my sites, keep in mind, if you sell a $5,000
notebook or custom pc - you only get to keep around
a $100. And selling is probably the wrong word
- I just supply information along with a few affiliate
links. If someone clicks on my affiliate link and goes
to that merchant and purchases a product - I get
a small percentage of that sale. But in truth, I am
not selling from my site, only pre-selling ( warming
up or planting seeds in a potential customer's mind )
- this is best done by compiling and presenting valuable
information about a product or service and saving
the potential buyer some time and hassle in the
process.

It can be a great system if you get it just right
but it does take some work to set up. If you're
looking for some quick fix or software programs that
will churn out re-hash content that will fool the
'spiders' for a little while - please look somewhere
else for your information - this blog is not about that.

On the other hand, if you're interested in providing
valuable information, along with helpful guides or
tips - the 'spiders' will reward you. The Internet
has too much stuff - it's splattered all over the
place. Search engines help in compiling this
information but anyone that goes out and researches,
gathers first-hand, evaluates, and presents all this
information in neat friendly readable package will
get good targeted traffic. Build a web site around
this material, and present only quality links to
other sites doing the same and you're really
to pick some affiliate programs that closely match
your content.

People are smart, you must pick quality affiliate programs
to go along with your quality content. People also like
something that's familiar, the Internet is still an
untrusting place in the eyes of many, and going with
a familiar program like Amazon.com can deliver big rewards.

But there are many quality affiliate programs, these
are some that send me a check each month or so. ;-)

Here are my Top Paying Affiliate Programs
(some of these links are affiliate links!)

ClickBank

Promotional Desktop Calendar

o #1 in MSN and other bad news!

As I reported last week, I would try and keep you informed
with my marketing campaign for DATEwise eCalendars. This
is a great little promotional tool that sits on a user's
desktop with your LIVE LINKS - company logo, sales message
and email contact.

My goal is to try and place DATEwise in all three
of the search engines - on the first page or it doesn't
count!

So far, it's only been a week but I have managed to put one
of my major keyword phrases 'free desktop calendar' in MSN.
Unfortunately, as most web marketers know, a #1 in MSN is
virtually useless in regards to large amounts of traffic,
Google is the only search engine that counts. Maybe that
will change but I am not holding my breath.
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?FORM=MSNH&srch_type=0&q=free+desktop+calendar

Why is #1's in MSN and Yahoo worth so little? Because they
don't bring in the traffic. Plain and simple. Any SEO expect
worth his/her salt knows this. Anyone with #1 ranked keywords
in all Three Sisters of Mercy - know that Google is the one
that really counts.

Why is this? You ask...

According to Alexa, a company that tracks web traffic,
the top three sites on the Web are 1-Yahoo, 2-MSN, and 3-Google.
However, when you compare where people go on these
sites - search.yahoo.com accounts for only 9% of Yahoo's
traffic and search.msn.com only 7% of MSN's total traffic;
whereas most of Google's traffic is search traffic.

This is a big distinction. Google still gets most of the
search traffic on the web.

However, there is a silver lining in all this - MSN traffic
spend more money than the other two. Latest data presented
by Score Networks, Inc. shows MSN searchers at 48%, Google
searchers at 42% and Yahoo at 31%. So MSN searchers were 48%
more likely to purchase online than the regular Internet user.

Guess that counts for something!

My campaign is not going as planned, I have not hit in Google
or Yahoo but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Should hit this
week unless the competition for my keyword phrases is a little
stiffer than I figured from looking at the PR rankings of the
first page SERPs.

They should hit this week, I will keep you posted.

o Google tries to Patent RSS text ads

Perhaps, one of Google's most brilliant (some believe absurd) moves,
happened just recently. It has applied (via Nelson Minar, a Google Engineer), for patent rights to transmit ads through RSS feeds.
This is still pending and it sounds a bit silly but stranger
things have happened. If successful, Google is looking at a huge
market in RSS ads - the potential is mind boggling.

RSS Patent

o Is Google creating its own RSS powered Operating System & Browser

There are rumors flying around the web, that Google is creating
its own RSS powered Operating System and Browser. How do such
rumors get started and passed so quickly around the net. Maybe
this post is not helping matters but you have to wonder, if Google
wants to remain competitive in the Search Game - it has to
tuckle its competition head-on.

This means offering the services that its competition offer
- sounds reasonable. MSN's browser and Windows OS should be
two elements Google would be considering.

Flush with cash with its IPO, Google is now worth around 80 billion,
resources and funding is not a problem for anything it wants to
develop. Why not create your own OS? Why not create your own browser?
Those two elements have a direct bearing on how much search
traffic you will get. Why not secure more traffic by venturing
into MSN's territory.

Google did the same thing with gmail and you really have to
wonder will they do the same with an operating system and browser?
Besides, even with 80 billion - wasting a $10 domain registration
is totally foolish. Google owns the domain for 'gbrowser.com'!

o Viral Marketing Techniques That Every Site Should Be Using

for your site. Read the article here:

o Tinu is the only game in town

When it comes to RSS, Google and Traffic, Tinu, of
Zerocosttraffic.com is the only game in town.

I am amazed again and again with the amount of high
quality content she has on her site. Hard to believe
it's coming one entity!

If you want to know about RSS/Google/Traffic/ spend a
few days digging thru her sites...you will not regret it.

Have a great week!
