This week I thought I would comment on some of my
own observations about using Blogs, RSS feeds to
target certain keywords or phrases in the different
search engines. These are not scientific or controlled
studies - just some things I have noticed by using RSS/Blogs
to get my keywords listed and indexed in the different
search engines - general pointers that may help your
own marketing.
First, I would just like to say that targeting the
right keywords or phrases is the 'key' to making any kind
of profit from your site. One simple way to do this is
to just type your 'keyword' into the different search
engines - now take note of the number of paid adverts listed
for your keyword.
If there are no paid adverts - chances are high that your
keyword is not a paying keyword. Which means it has little or
no traffic - it can also mean that the keyword doesn't convert
into a sale.
You can use some shortcuts by checking with wordtracker or
overture.com - I use this one here.
It gives me the numbers of searches made last month for that
keyword, along with variations of that keyword or phrase.
It also gives me a list of whose bidding on the keyword and
how much they're willing to pay for traffic to that keyword.
PayPerClick marketing is whole different area that I won't
go into here but it's something similar except in PPC
you obviously have to pay for your traffic.
Getting a high ranking (at least on the first page) for a
paying 'keyword' in one of the top search engines
Google, Msn, or Yahoo can set up a nice revenue stream
on your site.
That's why everyone is trying to get a top #1 listing
for a high traffic, high paying keyword
in Google or Yahoo. It can mean a lot to your
bottom line.
With that in mind, I thought I would comment on some
of my observations over the last couple of years -
and especially now that I have started to use
RSS/Blogs to target my keywords. You can read more
about this system Here: Google Cash File.
Anyway, just what exactly is the connection between RSS,
Blogger.com and Google. How does Google rate
keywords that appear on Blogger and in Blogger's
RSS atom feeds. Is there a 'shortcut' clause in their
algorithm or are they just using common sense - fresh
content is their business and the freshest, most recent
content can usually be found in blogs and RSS feeds.
It's the inherent nature of those two systems - we
check blogs and feeds to get the latest news, updates
or information that we need.
Of course, everyone knows Google owns Blogger.com
but does a site or more specifically a keyword or
a keyword phrase get preferential treatment if it appears
in Blogger.com or in an atom feed from Blogger.com?
Not really, but it will get the 'googlebot' hopping
to your site real fast for that particular 'keyword'.
And if your site has a PR of 5 or 6 or higher - changes
are you will get a top listing for that keyword depending
on the competition.
Off page factors are important to Google, the number
of 'anchor text' links with your particular keyword
is extremely important. The more you have, the higher
the ranking. It's still the number and quality of those
anchor links that will put you at #1 and keep you there.
So the main reason for considering such a connection
is how fast a keyword is indexed in Google, once it
has appeared on Blogger.com or in any blog/rss feed.
I have been publishing this blog thru Blogger.com and
hosting it on my site. I have noticed it's a very quick
way to get my keyword phrases indexed in Google.
For example, last week I posted an item about Brad
Callen's SEO Elite software program - within days
I was listed in Google for the keyword 'Brad Callen'
- granted it's only at #13 and on the second page
but I only have a PR3 site.
Someone, with a PR5 or PR6 site - would be able to
get a top 10 listing for words are in the mid-level
competition within days - JUST BY PLACING A POST IN
BLOGGER.COM
Kick-start your 'keyswords' by using a blog or RSS feed.
It's one way of getting your 'keyword' indexed really
fast -- when you're selling a time sensitive item or
product - it's really the early bird that gets most
of the worms. Especially, when you have such a powerful
search engine such as Google pointing a prospective
customer your way.
