What Features You Should Compare BEFORE
Buying A Netbook
The popularity of Netbook or Mini Laptop has taken everyone by
surprise. Maybe it's our insatiable need to always be connected
to our friends, family and the web. The growing importance of
social media sites such as Twitter, MySpace, FaceBook... has
resulted in "Total Addiction" to the web for the young and old
alike. We have all become wired addicts looking for our next fix.
The nebook delivers!
Netbooks will never replace laptops but they do satisfy our
need to be totally connected with our friends, family and the
web.
What to look for when buying your Mini Laptop or Netbook:
Portability, Portability, Portability,
Portability is one of the key reasons to buy a netbook. You want
something that's light-weight, compact and totally mobile. You want
something that can easily fit into your backpack or under your arm.
So you need to check the weight and size of the netbook you're
considering buying. By definition alone, most netbooks will be
smaller and lighter than a regular laptop. However, you should
check the weight and size to see if it meets your needs.
Battery Life
Another important feature to check is battery life. You want a
long lasting battery that will get you thru your day before you
have to re-charge it. This is extremely important if you want your
netbook for traveling where an outlet might not be handy. So too,
if you're a student and want your netbook to last thru all those
long boring classes.
Since battery life is important - buy the highest cell-battery
you can. Go for a 6 cell battery or higher if you can get it or
buy an extra battery. Some of the latest netbooks lasts around
9 hours but the average is much lower, around 3 or 4 hours and
will depend on what applications/programs you're running.
Always check battery life.
Connectivity
Another buying factor to consider is connectivity. What kind
of connections does your mini laptop possess. Most have high
quality Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) connections such as
802.11a/b/g wireless systems. Also check to see if your
netbook has BlueTooth.
Performance
Although small, these netbooks still have some impressive specs.
Most come with at least 1 Gig of RAM and Intel Atom processors.
Some even come with Solid State Hard Drives so check out the
specs before you buy. Most netbooks use Windows XP - newer models
debuting this year with the Nvidia's Ion platform may have
Vista or Windows 7 but still don't expect the kind of performance
you would get from a laptop.
Storage
By definition, netbooks are smaller in design, so most have
limited storage. Depending on your needs, a 30Gig or 60Gig
hard drive should be adequate. Many newer netbooks have
160 Gigs - which should be enough for anyone on a device
is only meant to keep you connected while you're away from
your main computer.
Display
You need to check out the display to see if it's
bright and sharp. Can you see and read the screen
in direct sunshine? Check the resolution. But most
of all, check to see how websites and graphics appear
in your 8, 9 or 10 inch display.
Sturdiness
Since netbooks are meant to be carried around and handled
more roughly than a regular laptop, you must get a
sturdy machine that can take a few bumps and drops.
Security
What security features do your netbook have? You want
to protect all files and information. Some netbooks
have integrated fingerprint security for biometric
authentication. Some have embedded security subsystem
and password manager.
